Forum rust

may sound a daft question but someone asked me and i didnt know the answer.

can rust be fixed? friends car has rust bubbles under the paint on his car. they are on the wheel arches and a bit on the side of the bonnet. he also has a bit on the corner of his roof which has now turned into a hole.

can a panel beater/sprayer type place / guy rectify these or is it a case of once the rust is there, its there forever? Read more

You're supposed to paint it immediately but the rust will come back-the water-soluble bit works if you put it on chrome plating but you need to get oil or wax on it immediately after wiping it off.

How anoying, I take my car in for some work to be carried out and receive it back with a nice dent in the rear wing.

It's like no-one cares anymore. Managed to nail them down to responsibility though so they will pay for the paintless daint repair. Read more

Hi all.
One of the outer cv joints on my Accent 1.5-cdx needs replacing.
The cv is a "Birfield joint" & the Hyundai manual says these joints cannot be dissasembled.
Does this mean that the joint can't be removed from the shaft for replacement? or do they mean the joint can't be stripped down once removed?
The manual gives no instructions for removal of the joint from the shaft, but the fact these joints can be bought from car spares shops would indicate that they can be removed, otherwise why sell them?
Any help much welcome, thanks. Read more

Can anyone please advise as to the following? Have a carbed pre- CAT car , into which I wish to put an SPI engine of the same cc from a later model of the same car. As the car is pre-CAT, can I leave the CAT off or will I have to fit it to comply with whatever rules apply, MOT etc ?
Any input/clarification would be appreciated.
Thank you Read more

Are there any Regulations stopping me from manufacturing my own Car trailer for my Track day car with spare wheels etc.. Read more

stuartl

I had an 'Indespension' book years ago that gave build plans for trailers. Presumably regulations have been changed since then so I don't know what the home builder would have to encounter.
Although I would have been thinking along the same lines as you with regards to building one myself some years ago, I have to say that these days I would rather stump up (after saving up!) for a purpose built trailer. Unless I was 101% convinced of my design and welding capabilities I would rather go for a pro-build item, especially when the insurance companies these days seem more reluctant than ever to pay out due to the wonderful compensation culture we have imported from the USA..........

My brother has a 2001 Caterham 7 which I carried on a fantastic trailer, I think it was a Brian James Mini one, when it blew it's first head gasket (yes, K series : o ) ) That was great, very light and a joy to tow, even behing my 1.7D Vauxhall Combo Van

Does any one know where the fuel filter is situated on a 1.4 Vaux Astra life on 54 plate, any ideas

{Shouting amended - DD} Read more

Ruperts Trooper

It's been 40,000 on Vauxhalls for a long time. Cars serviced at Vx dealers, or independents following manufacturers schedule, will only get them changed at 40k. They don't seem to suffer.

Changing a fuel filter annually (or 12k) seems un-neccessary overkill.

Ok so I feel like an idiot having to ask this question but I've just bought a second hand 1993 Toyota Carina, and I don't have a clue how to switch off the alarm if it goes off. Can any of you help me out? Read more

Saltrampen

IF (and a big IF) it is similar to the 1993 Corolla, there should be a little key on the key ring that fits into a black box (only one with a key barrel in it) in the engine bay, which will turn the Alarm off.
Disconnecting the Alarm MAY work, but it could be connected to the ignition, which mean no start.
If this is not the case, try www.toyotaownersclub or dealer...

Last Friday I suffered a left foot ruptured achilles tendon which i have been told will take at least 3 months to treat. I am considering changing
my Nissan X-Trail for an automatic vehicle to carry my wife and two small
dogs.
Would I still be allowed to drive such a vehicle with a plaster cast on my left leg, if so any recommendations as to what car would be suitable
with a price of approx £13 K
Looking forward to your advice.
