I have just bought myself a pressurization unit for bleeding the abs braking system on my zafira, all the pads and discs have been replaced front and back at the same time,by the local mechanic.

I have also bought a caliper windback tool, brack pipe clamp and a 7mm for the bolts to fit the caliper on a zafira DTI elegance 09/2000.

Is there anything else I may need, advice very welcome. Read more

Why didn't you let the local mechanic bleed the brakes whilst he was doing the discs and pads? It wouldn't have taken him long seeing as the car was in the air with the wheels off.

From the flying Vauxhall Astra advert.

This tune has been going around my head for days, and I can't seem to find what it's called.

Does anyone know what it is?

Roadholding on those new Astras doesn't seem too good - they seem to spin rather easily.

"You are aware that northern-hemisphere ice-ages and global temperature increases are intrinsically linked, right?"

My point is that the cycle is normal even without an industrial world.

Problem is, re " The Human race owes it to itself to sort out the emmisions problem"
Collective accountability never works out.
(as evidenced by the sink full of dirty pots in the office sink)

And from a UK point of view, as we produce only 2 per cent of the worlds pollution, it doesnt *really* matter what we do.
How they must laugh in the US and China to hear TB "taking the lead" on this issue.
We could of course build Nuclear power plants to fully cover the UK`s needs. ( no oil/ coal/gas pollution)
Reduce those power needs by the many means available, run around in those small electric cars and in general reduce our standard of living.
But China alone would take up the slack, as it were, in just a few months.
India and especially China are already "on board" by the way :)
Anyway, pollution can`t get much worse than when my generation were kids. Yellow coal fire smogs, with subsequent chest infections and with the local GP saying " everyone in the district has raw sinus edges due to domestic coal fire pollution".
And cars, black streaks on the paintwork, after rain, that could only be washed off with *hot* water with plenty of washing up liquid.
( no chance with car shampoos)

While I was driving home tonight along a dimly lit road on a light industrial estate there was a frighteningly loud noise. It sounded much like an explosion some long distance away, but SWMBO agreed that it enveloped us. It was a thud rather than a bang. I was cautious lest it was an attempt to cause me to stop so that person or persons unknown could carry out a car-jacking. There was no obvious effect on the handling or running of the car, so I didn?t stop. My son had a similar incident a year ago when a group of children were throwing half bricks at cars and laughing like cretins when they hit one. Any ideas anyone ? I imagine that if anything had hit my car I would have felt the impact through the fabric. I couldn?t see anything when I stopped in the supermarket car-park, but I?m going to examine the car carefully tomorrow morning when it is light enough to see. Read more

"Hillman, do let us know if the police actually DO anything about it.

Having still had no response to my message to A.N. Other Cheshire police "force", I am rapidly losing faith. The chavs are taking over the world. "

I wrote to the building company and the police, with copies to both. I have not received any replies, though.
I went past the site yesterday and found that the gates had been covered by a wood surface. Just what I asked them to do in my letter.
Now I will have to get the dent repaired or trade the car in as is.

In a preview for the programme "Drivers Uncovered" on ITV Mon 13 Nov.

"Quentin Willson looks into new figures that suggest premiums will be raised to make up for the rising number of accidents involving uninsured drivers, and asks whether the Government is losing the battle for control of Britain's roads"

"In some areas, for one in three drivers, there are "problems" with their documentation.

And the woman interviewed who said she had driven for 32 years with no insurance ?.
She stated that there was little chance of getting caught and she always avoided police vehicles when ever she saw any.
What action in this case?

Oh and we are to get more dedicated traffic officers !
Well... a very recent police program showed the traffic boys being, to their obvious frustration, being called away to do other jobs.
It is not simpler to say we will get more police thus allowing traffic boys to do what they joinded the traffic dept for?
Anyone for joined up goverment?

Cat light started coming on intermitterntly on ma's 205 mardi gras 1.6 auto. Hasn't been through any deep water. No difference noticed in performance, but she only does 50-60mph anyway. Could it be a faulty sensor?

I think you will find that the cat light on these is actually the engine management warning lamp.(mil light).A diagnostic check may show a fault.

After reading this weeks Autocar, it seems that GM have high ambitions for Chevrolet in the UK and indeed Europe and the world.

The Ambitious plans include 1 in 8 of all cars sold in the UK will be badged Chevy ( when though it does not state ) also all New models will be in house designed rather than ageing Daewoo cast offs using the same platforms as the Astra, Corsa etc. Also the small Chevrolets will be the same the world over thus reducing costs.

So where will this leave Vauxhall?

As a UK only brand and Chevy fast becoming the Global GM volume sales brand does GM have a sinister business plan to phase Vauxhall out gradually of the UK and rebadge or engineer as Chevrolet? After all it's not that difficult or expensive to rebadge.

Why would Toyota be loyal to Peugeot's workforce?

It was up to PSA to fight Ryton's corner, and it appears they didn't do that too well. AIUI Ryton was too small to have housed the ambitions Peugeot/Citroen/Toyota had for the Aygo et al. They'd have had to have spent a lot of money getting it up to speed, and neither Toyota nor PSA are based in the UK so they have no loyalty to this country, that much is true.

Ultimately if our management hadn't been incompetent over the years Rover would still be going, and we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Milk from Poland -- I agree this is ludicrous. And additionally it's highly ecologically unsound -- we'd be doing a good thing localising food supply again.
