Driving home today the engine died in my 1.7 ford puma. while driving along. Rolled to a stop. Engine wouldn't start, left it for a few minutes when it started again. Drove it home and sometimes it would seem to stop for a fraction of a second and then start backup as you could see the dash lights go thru their start up sequence and power would drop for a little bit. Some times it would just die and I would be stuck in road for 5 minutes until it started back up.

Doesn't seem to battery as lights are ok and connections look fine. You can hear fuel pump so I think the immobiliser is ok. No warning lights are on.

Using the trip button trick I was able to get the following 2 error codes from the ECU 5967 and 0115.

Any suggestions? Read more

So these codes could have been there for years? Today the car has been fine. At the weekend I check all the connections and disconnect the battery for 30minutes to reset the computer and then see if it happens again.

Is it me being cynical or does this fit into the 'we have invented everything useful - let's start on the non-useful stuff to make money out of people' category.
It is being endorsed by autoglym and is just short of £50 - unbelievable IMO.

Looking at the price I can't see them selling many of them!!!!!!!

I have a relative problem, although the car has just been serviced it runs really well with no problems, when I press the accelarator I hear a high pitched noise from under the bonnet, and the noise seems to stablise at 3000rpm in otherwards the pitch not getting higher in tone, not sure if this would be a vacuum leak, or could it be the turbo on its way out. As I said the car runs perfectly, no loss of power at all, its covered 120,000 miles starts first time every morning. Any ideas what this high pitch noise could be or whinning??

OK thanx for that info, umm I still think I will get it checked out as it has only just started doing it, plus it has started to get more louder, especially on long journeys, plus the fact its still a bit erratic on cold starts despite the glow plugs got changed and it hesitates a little on low revs, or just cruising at 30mph in 3rd gear or 2nd gear, if anyone knows the cause of this extra info would be a great help cheers.

i hope everyone watched traffic cops tonight that centered on the use of mobile phones and how they do kill while on our congested roads.
i would also like to shake the hand of the policeman that gave the woman in the bmw a piece of his mind and glad that he gave 3 points to the man taking the shortcut down the hard shoulder Read more

My view is simple: enforce the laws we have before any
new laws are made. If that means tackling the 5-10% of
uninsured and untaxed drivers.. I would applaud.

But frankly we have elected muppets who think that passing a
law solves a problem (or winning the rights to hold an
Olynmpic Games means it can be done on time and on
budget..:-(

Absolutely. There is little point in introducing laws and draconian punichments if there is little or no chance of them being enforced.

We rarely see a policeman in our village, except when they are are running training days for trainee constables and then we see dozens, but they have no powers to do anything they told me. Yet, every day there are dozens of drivers using their 'phones and speeding. At the village school there are mums in their 4X4s, that they can barely drive, yattering away whilst they attempt to do a three point turn, or reverse into a side road. Yesterday I saw a workman in a pickup trying to reverse whilst in deep conversation on his 'phone.

Shove a policeman on any road junction here and he could make his weeks wages in a couple of hours with the fines that could be collected.

I am about to enter the pleasurable experience of 'changing the car'. I really do fancy a Subaru Legacy Tourer. Looking at pushing the boat out and buying very nearly new. My questions are: are the dealers good and, is there anything owners in particular would want to let me know. I have already spent a lot of time researching and reading comments from like minded people on here. I am willing to accept relatively low fuel consumption and high(er) running costs. Is there anything I might not be aware of?
Thanks in advance. Read more

I bought an Outback Estate (with 'luxury pack') from the Haslemere dealer August 2005, with around 55,000 on the clock, and 4 years old. It was originally a Plymouth serviced car, i.e. your neck of the woods, and I did note that the 1st owner sold it for £6995 to that dealer. By the time Haslemere had bought it from them and sold it to me it was £9995!
Nonetheless, it's a great car, as above, but I'd note that money is saved By Subaru by focussing on the fundamentals, so no split rear seats, multi-CD or very adjustable steering wheel.
I'm trying to find out the best tyres to keep it quiet, as I'm only a road driver, (Yokohama Db from my research) and it has slightly chinky ones now. The internal space is fantastic, both boot and passengers. The CC works well. The engine is smooth as silk. Seats are a good firm/comfort compromise. Gear change is tight. It's better in my view than an MB C class to drive and just as tough.
Why does anyone buy new ones?

Question St24 to St200
AdyBeee

Does anyone know what modifications where made by Ford to increase the ST24 Duratech engine to the 205PS of the ST200. I have found so far that the ST200 has tuned heads and camshafts, a larger throttle body and a low pressure exhaust.

I'm sure they did much more to get the extra power, but cannot find anything on it.

Dont mean to sound odd, but wouldnt it be easier and less hassle to just go buy a proper st200, i say that as for me personaly i wouldnt go out of my way to try and butter a car up to another model which it isnt.

Prob actually cost less too, i once spoke to a chap who was trying to sell a mondeo lx mk3 which he had done up to look like an st220, i just didnt see the point.

My petrol 405 is just coming up to 236k. It has been incredibly reliable, and I have been loath to dispose of it as it is such an excellent tool for carrying shopping, 2 labradors, lots of stuff for wife's job.

It has had 4 breakdowns though over the last 2 years (leaking valve in new tyre, failed ignition amplifier, failed starter, and recently the breather pipe to cam cover coming off and dropping ½ pint of oil over engine) and She Who Must Be Obeyed has announced she would like a replacement.

But what else for the size has such a useful boot (wide, flat, no intrusions into boot, easy to drop seats, skid plate at edge of platform and not colourmatched plastic bumper to be scratched by dog paws) which is this size (Mondeo and Vectra estate described as "too big")

I thought perhaps the new Focus with the 1.6 diesel, or the Astra with the 1.9 GM/Fiat diesel. Divorce has been considered, but will be more expensive than the £10-12k car. At my age murder is out, as I couldn't do 14 years inside

Comments anyone, particularly about engine choice. I will be maintaining it myself eventually, favour twice annual oil changes, and EGRs make me uncomfortable. Read more

if you are relitively set on the Skoda, walk up to the salesman and show him a cheque made out to the dealer of £7400

If he does not accept it. Walk. There are plenty of other cars for the money. Have the nerve and it WILL pay off.

It's Cristmas and no one is buying cars of this type - it's not on anyones Santa list.

The 2007 Severn bridge crossing tolls increasing next year, can it be justified with the amount of traffic that passes both Tolls on the M4 and M48.

"itvregions.com quoted:- From January, cars will have to pay five pounds ten to cross - that's a rise of 20 pence. Small goods vehicles and small buses will pay 10 pounds 20, while HGVs and buses will have to pay 15 pounds 30."

Normally the increase is 10p per year, now 20p. Maybe 2008 it will be 40p.

I suppose the inflation rate is dependant on who you believe "Mystic Gordon" or the real figure.

Just about to change the water pump on a 1.6 8v astra. I,m told its wise to put something on the O ring. What would you advise? Read more

V Meldrew

I doubt very much that the 'O' ring is made of rubber. Much more likely to be PTFE or similar. If so, any grease should do
