Is anyone else having trouble with the Backroom profiles? All that happens when I click to read them is a 'bloop' sound and the page scrolls to the top.

Cars usually under 3 yrs old and fairly high mileage
However a 3 yr old CLK convertible is for sale and the service book is pristine but has no stamps in 3 yrs! 8,000mls and no oil change!
I have heard of long life servicing but can a car go 3 yrs without a service and still be a good buy? The are wanting approx £18,000 for this CLK 240 cabriolet Read more

I bought my VW Touran two and a half years ago. At the time, the sat nav cost £1295 as an optional extra which was expensive but the standalone units by Tom Tom etc were in their infancy and cost around £700.
Since then, the cost of sat nav units has plummeted together with all things electronic so you can get a NavMan in Tesco for under £100.
However, if I want a sat nav in next year's Ford S Max, it is still going to cost £1500! That buys an awful lot of electronics these days. I appreciate that car manufacturers hope that a built in sat nav continues to have a certain cachet but I for one thing it should be included in the top of the range cars in the way that Honda do with their Exec Accords and CR-Vs.
I do like the convenience and large screen of my VW system but a good standalone system will be mine forever and work between both cars as required.
Does anyone who has to pay for their own motoring think it is still worth ticking the Sat Nav box on the optional extra list these days?

BMW offer a range of Garmin stand-alone units as official accessories (not sure of the prices) - seems they've recognised the high price of dedicated units
i have recently bought a 306 (2001) and have noticed on the passenger side rear door there is some rust appearing under the weather strip (on the lip of metal)
this is tracking under the paint on the sill and feels loose underneath. I was wondering if this would be covered under the 12 year warranty?
is it worth trying to get this covered? if so how does it work? do peugeot need to see it or do i take it to a bodywork specialist that is peugeot approved?
thanks Read more
This sort of damage would be under a paintwork warranty, if one existed. Paintwork warranties are rarely longer than 3 years. As has been stated, the corrosion guarantees are usually no perforation guarantees.
I'm looking to buy a second hand small car for my 18 year old daughter to travel to college in. I need something that will give her good mileage as she will be travelling about 50 miles per day and also something that will be cheap to insure. Can anyone also explain the insurance groups to me. Is group 1 cheaper to insure than group 2? Id be grateful for any advice! Read more
A Mark3 Fiesta with low miles and good body? Lots around
£1400-£1800 will buy a good one but 35mpg ish..Easy to work
on. Watch for rust. Stealable but who would? :-) Or
£2500 for a Mark4.. More rust...
The Zetec-SE engined versions are ridiculously frugal. Our '97 1.4 regularly cracks 40 mpg (320 miles comfortable tank range, and rarely breaks £30 to refill). Admittedly it's mostly used on a 50 mile round trip commute, but it most certainly isn't driven gently. SWMBO doesn't do sedate. It's done 91k now and apart from a slight top end rattle from cold starts which shuts up after about a second, it's as sweet as new.
You'll pick up a nice early mk4 1.25 with <60k on the clock for £1700 - £2000.
Cheers

I had to laugh. Apparently some bright spark, forget who it is ( the mag is in the van and its too cold outside to go get it ), has come up with the idea of converting us to KPH, but not changing any signs which will save money. Scarily that makes it a real possibility if it wont cost much.
However, they wont be converting the current speedlimits into KPH, but instead the existing signs will simply be recognised as KPH, thus virtually halving the limit.
They said it will give us an effective national speed limit on motorway of 43 mph ( and walking pace through town ) , which will save the planet and many lives...
Its in this weeks Autoexpress mag if you wanna look it up.
As much as I dont feel the need to sit right on the speed limit, even I think thats a bit harsh!
