Interesting news this morning about the things people have done to avoid points/ban when caught on cameras.
If they were burglars avoiding the law through perjury we would all be incensed about it. So why is this law different?
One guy was talking about how there are now hundreds of people employed my speed camera partnerships, reliant on income from the cameras. We could eliminate all these parasites very quickly by simple collective action.
All we have to do is to obey the law Read more
OK, cool Leif, but I hope you give the 5mph slippage when there's no question of danger, given the pessimism of stendard speedometers. Today, tonight actually on the way across town, I was held up tiresomely by an entity of some configuration or other driving a Merc or Lexus or something... definitely 6mph too slow on a bog-standard central London 50mph A road, these days alas down below 40 or the old bill may give you a pull'n'bull (can I get away with that mods cringe cringe), God it's such a bore and what with all the stupid street furniture you can't even go screaming past any more, choke puke... Honestly the only thing that keeps me driving is the thought of public transport with its compulsory adoption of a public face. Just got used to slobbing about alone.
my 3 1/2 year old corsa recently had the engine management light coming on when accelerating up to 60mph, then losing power, misfiring and going into safe mode. so far the garage have been unable to find the fault, having changed the spark plugs and put in a new coil pack.
has anyone else experienced this problem and if so what fault was found.?
i have a 1.2i sxi on a march 03 plate. it has only done 18, 500 miles.
thanks

don't know part number, but they got it from internet, when only needed to give car reg no or vin number. they ordered part for twinport engine.
Yesterday a car ended up on its roof on my road.
I didn't see it myself but a neighbour did - though he didn't see what happened, or notice what type of car it was.
I live on a dead straight bog standard suburban road - usually cars parked on both sides and room for single file traffic up the middle, with fairly regular gaps in the parked cars to allow passing.
So I'm baffled as to how a car could end up on its roof - how could it have happened and what kind of speed would it need to have been doing? I wandered up for a nose and apart from some glass there doesn't seem to be any other clues like skid marks. Read more

Thats what really puts me off 4 wheel drives, The wobbling high centre of gravity combined with those big fat tyres just waiting to dig in if the driver does an *emergency swerve* Sadly with many of the SUV * School run* drivers having no clue at all about the potential risks in this area compared with the wide track, low centre of gravity cars they had before.
cheap reliable 4x4 needed for off road use ( driving up and down a 2 mile track for a project in a remote location). Current favourite is a 4.0 litre Jeep of mid 90's vintage. Any other suggestions (due to low mileage fuel consumption is a low prioroty - cheapness and reliability are the main criteria)

The original Isuzu Trooper was outstanding (diesel, of course). It would go anywhere and pull anything. It was also very easy to maintain. The J reg one I had even had electric windows! Another good buy is a Vauxhall Monterey which was a re-badged Mark 2 Isuzu Trooper. These are usually cheaper than the equivalent Trooper, presumably because of the badges. Again the diesel is the one to go for as the V6 petrol was very thirsty. Top of the range models had air con as well as electric windows and an electric sun roof.
Fault light came up yesterday and it got a bit sluggish on a slight motorway incline. (8 months old 25k miles). Light continued to stay on for the rest of the days work until i got to my mates place and we plugged in his tech2. Forget the fault code, but it stated exhaust gas emmision recirculation limit exceeded (or something along those lines).....cleared the code and she ran today OK 250 miles without the fault re-appearing. Any ideas if this may be serious???? Read more
Thanks JC....booked it in for tuesday under warranty. Incidently, she's started pinking now - presumably related?.
Hello
Has anyone had problems with the handbrake mechanism on an S-type (1999). The handbrake unit has been binding on and the screw type mechanism seems to not be freely releasing or releasing enough to allow the discs to rotate without overheating. Did anyone find a good solution for this and is it a common problem? Read more
Hi. I bought an Alfa147 1.6 Lusso from a 'reputable' car supermarket two months ago and in that time, over 1,000 miles, it has used 3 to 4 litres of oil. The garage could find no leak and no signs in the coolant, meaning its being burned through the engine. It is 3 years old and has done 65,000 but I think this is unreasonable and not general wear and tear. I am going back to the supermarket trying to get them to pay for repairs (maybe a new engine is required!). Any ideas of what my chances of success will be or any experiences of this problem with Alfa 147s? Much obliged....... Read more
Years ago inherited a Mk2 2.8GL Granny Estate from our MD as a co. car. Found out that it had only been serviced 3 times in 85K miles! Each of these were when it broke down. He then got a Nissan Patrol & drove that until it broke. As it happened with a head gasket failure, the leasing co. billed him the full costs & as a Scotsman he was not happy!
My sister and her husband just had a cambelt snap on their 97 Daewoo resulting in an uneconomic-to-replace situation with the wrecked engine.
Unfortunately I am too far away from them to be able to help them find a car, and they know absolutely nothing about cars, other than that they need one!
They have £4000 to spend, and say they have been recommended a company called Club Autosave who will source a car for them and deliver it.
I'd like some advice on what they should be looking for. They do around 10-12k miles a year, and this car will need to last 4 to 5 years. They have two small children (2 and 6 months) and possibly another on the way, so my sister says it's essential they can put a child seat in the front, which means a switchable airbag is req'd.
The 'M' word keeps springing to mind, but does a Mondeo have a switchable airbag? I have no idea. Seem to be some with 50k ish miles on a 2002 for their budget (1.8 or 2.0LX)
Thanks for your thoughts! Read more

It's not because people complained, it's because council's favourite contracts need something to do. They probably have new humps scheduled for 2008/2009 already.
