Is a buffer just as safe/effective in applying wax and polish to a car as by hand?

I buff them off afterwards by hand. Read more

5.15am, on my way for a round of golf, going around a corner on an unlit road with on coming traffic with main beam headlights, I find an abandoned tractor trailor (india is like the phillipines in this respect) awaiting a wheel change. Swerve to avoid, hit pavement, bounce into divider, and back into pavement. Passenger side wheel takes imapact and buckles wing. drivers side front okay except for bent bumper and scuffed wheel.

Lower suspension arms are bent and replaced along with steering rods etc and car placed on jig. A chassis bend of 24mm (around lower suspension arm mount) has been found so car dismantled in order to be pulled into shape. Would appreciate inputs on

1: whether such a bend can be straightened successfully ?
2: Can a slight bend be tolerated ? If so what would be the acceptable tolerance
3: Should I repair the car and get rid of it ?

Well thats good news about your car and its nice to hear about the outcome of something that had been posted/discussed on here, especially something that you have contibuted too. Hopefully it didn't cost you a fortune to get it fixed and you should have a few more years of use from your Honda now it is fully repaired to your satisfaction.

Hi,

My girlfriend has a 54 plate MGTF, 135BHP special anniversary edition. I know she is going to lose loads on it, but she needs to sell to clear some bills.

It only has 4K on the clock, is in perfect condition throughout, no hard top.

Parkers guide suggests she will get 9K in a private sale, do you think this price is right?, also I was thinking about spring time as the best time to sell? Read more

Autotrader has many of simialr age and low miles (less than 10K) - prices asked £8.5-£11.5K but how many will sell at thewir asking price (or near that especially in the winter) is another question.

Best time for convertibles is the Spring - 6mths time

A few miles away in Meopham is an independant MG Rover & Land Rover specialist., Apple Developments. Based in Camer Park Road, Meopham DA13 0AL. Tel 01474 813060.

From their advert in the local church magazine they state "Guaranteed personalised and friendly service offering the same quality and expertise as a Rover Main Dealer. An Accredited Rover Trained Technitian."

It is at least worth a phonecall.

I have no connection with them or used them. I have seen their adverts for a number of years, and a few of my customers use them and give good reports.

As per my post a couple of weeks ago I am going to get a used Nissan QX or Honda Accord (whichever turns up first for best price), Budget will be <2k. What month will I get the best deal from a trader? Will it be December or January? I wont buy before December but could last until February at a push. My thought is that December would be best as traders will want as much stock off loaded before the new year as possible - and as such I should be able to beat them down to a good price. Has anyone else purchased at this time of year? Read more

That doesn't sound particularly cheap for one of these HJ (I know they're a cracking car, but they seem unloved). For spares availability, an Accord is a better bet.

Just watch for rust where rear bumper meets arch!!!

See www.fordmondeo.org/forum/showtopic.php?tid/729245/ for photos of a pre-production example.

Apparently the pictures were taken at the Genk plant - you can see the S-Max line in one of the pictures. Some of the tooling is yet to be delivered to the plant so it looks like it'll be next year before production starts properly.

I was looking to px my volvo v70 but the parkers and which? px prices for my petrol volvo are shocking- I may seem silly but why? Has petrol gone out of fashion??? Read more

I agree with you, they often seem to perform surprisngly poorly at auction. Selling them seems to depend on the right price and spec, they also seem to sell much easier in the South than North.

I'm about to take delivery of a mondeo ghix x tomorrow and at the weekend I was talking to a salesman in my local ford dealer. I asked about having the bluetooth mobile phone activated and he said that it doesn;t need to be it will automatically recognise my phone. does anyone know if this is true - i thought it was an option ( around £250)

Hi

Just wanted to ask the forum, whether the extra expense of buying products such as Diamondbrite is really worth it? I ask as the car I've just purchased came with a small bottle of the conserver, and should I get the shampoo to do the job?

They make great claims to protect car paintwork, but then are they any better than the well known off the shelf brands like Turtle Wax, and if they are can are these high prices justified? Are there any other products which are as good?

Sorry so many questions for my first posting, but would like to hear what you guys have to say about this.

Cheers

There are much better products around than Meguiars, Autoglym and Turtle Wax etc. Is the finish better? Maybe. But the bestd stuff lasts longer. Check out car detailing sites for products like Zymol, Swissol, Carlack, P21S, Souveran, Zaino's and Mother's. The best way to get a good finish is to wash, clay, apply scratch remover (Meguiar's is OK), polish and then wax - either synthetic or carnauba.

DIY is cheaper but paying saves you time. Whether the cost is worth the convenience is a personal decision. But get a professional valeter - or preferaby detailer - to do it. Don't involve the dealer.
