I've seen an article in my local paper a few months back and the content has been confirmed by my local MP (Theresa Villiers- Tory)
that during the Olympics, to ensure the participants and officials don't get snagged up in the inevitable traffic jams, that they will be creating VIP Olympics only lanes... and will create legislation to ensure it's an offence to drive down them unless you are authorised.........
near where i am, the North Circular goes down to 2 lanes, because the powers that be inc Ken Livingstone have consistently refused to pay for the proper widening because that supports the 'nasty old car'.
so we'll have the prospect of the Angolan beach volleyball team swishing nicely through whilst the local residents and local tradesmen being stuck for ever more.
Deep Joy....can't wait..........particularly when you think all our council tax has been hiked for this (with more to come)and my Borough will get one edge of a cycling track. Read more
Hi,
I am looking for some help on the timing belt for a peugeot 406 hdi. I have just bought this car and as partof the deal the dealer said he would change the timing belt. Not trusting car sales men the first thing I did when I got the car home was to remove the timing belt cover and have a look. The belt does not look glossy as the previous belts I have changed when new.
Also their are no markings on the belt, I turned the engine over a full revolution and have seen nothing. In my experience the markings on the belt tend to fade or dissapear with age.
My question is, what does a new HDI timing belt look like? should it have markings on it, or have a glossy finish? Any thoughts would be welcome.
Thanks in advance Read more
My brother bought a 5 year old Mondeo that had only done 12,000 miles. However, since it was 5 years old he had the cambelt changed. The garage gave him the belt and the other bits back.
As 659FBE rightly says, the cambelt markings were still clearly visible after this mileage so I'm sorry to report that your car dealer is telling you porkies! The markings don't disappear in a few days, so your cambelt isn't new at all.
I've just noticed that my pads on my vauxhall zafira x reg 2 litre diesel pads need changing soon.

many thanks hope for a reply soon Read more
The rear brake setup is totally different. The piston needs a special retractor tool, apparently available for about £20.
As on any Vauxhall, don't forget to slacken the bleed valve when pushing back the piston (front or rear) to avoid the fluid pressure from inverting the seals in the master cylinder.

have one of the better fitment guides that I've seen.
you need stud pattern and diameter ie 5x112 (5 studs at a diameter of 112mm)
Offset - which is the offset of the plane through the centre of the wheel and the plane in which the hub fits usu quoted as eg ET45 which is a 45mm offset
and not forgetting hub diameter or bore again in mm but you can get rings that reduce the hub diameter of a wheel - metal ones better than plastic.
Anyone else encountered this problem with their VW Passat? At approximately 1500-2000 revs, there's what can only be described as a buzzing coming from somewhere buried in the dashboard on the passenger side. It's a diesel-engined car so there's obviously some inherent vibration overall, but this is in addtion and is starting to get on my nerves! It's akin to bees buzzing (if that makes sense!) and, I'm assuming, is some bit of trim or other that's not quite tight and vibrates at these lower revs.
Before I head off to the dealer and get told to a) just turn the radio up b) there's no noise c) we've not had this before or d) it's there alright, but we'll have to take the dash out to rectify it, thought I'd pick folks' brains on here and see if anyone else had experienced the same sort of symptoms. Funny you should mention that as I was thinking it might be coming from inside the engine on the other side of the bulkhead. Will have a look and see if that's the case.
No matter what I clean the inside of my car's windscreen with (including Autoglym Car Glass Polish), by tne time a film has built up you can see the same old handprints and fingerprints every time. It's a replacement screen and I can only assume that the fitter had very corrosive perspiration and that it actually etched its way into the glass!

Can anyone be kind enough to give a rough price for a 1999 T BMW528ia SE saloon, about 54000 on the clock. Immaculate order and full service history. It has what I presume to be the usual leather seats, Sports pack etc. Arelative needs to sell (non driver) following a bereavement and I would like them to get a fair price. I'm a Ford type myself and have no idea about BMW's. Cheers. Read more
Many thanks for taking the time to reply. I'll pass it on. Much appreciated.

His father, Antony Davies, who was teaching him to drive, says Peter was 'gutted' and had booked another test with an optician.
"To be honest he is gutted by what has happened. We are both hoping an optician can put an extra thickness into his glasses," he said.

I need to collect a garage door which I have purchased on Ebay and need to hire a van to do so. The question is what ven can I hire which will be big enough. The garage door is 7 foot by 7 foot but including the frame the dimensions are 87" by 87" and the depth is a standard garage door depth so no more than say 4 or 5 inches. What van would this fit in?? That's going to cost you £100 and a day, isn't it; must be one heck of a door! What about a courier? try pharos-international.co.uk who buy up surplus space from UPS.

Add the new Wembley stadium and the overdue Channel tunnel rail link to the above list too..!!
