Hi all
I have the above car and for a while now the amber airbag warning light on the dash has been flashing. To my knowledge the airbags have not been touched since new and the car has done circ 75k miles .The car is also fitted with an isolator by way of a keyswitch for the passenger. What is the likely cause of this flashing light please.
Many thanks Read more
It's that time of year when I have to think of something to buy Mrs M for Christmas. Trouble is, if she wants something, she buys it. None of this 'I'll wait till my birthday or Christmas' stuff for her.
So, as my wife gets lost at the end of the road, I was wondering about a cheap, basic Sat Nav. Nothing at all fancy. Requirements would be ability to stick in postcode/address, press button and off you go (my wife has only just mastered the DVD recorder). UK only. No speed camera spotting.
Garmin i3 is available for around £100. Any good? Alternatives? I know a lot of backroomers have Tom Tom, but it will be a complete waste of money as she will only use it occasionally and I'll rarely use it either.
Any advise gratefully received. Read more
Not the case John, sadly. Although it's possible the NSL indication may well change if you select Lorry, I cannot confirm this as I've always had it set to Car. Shame really, as the unreliability of this speed limit data makes this feature useless. (e.g. Telling you it's a 60 when it's really a 30, which has happened several times, and not just on roads which have had a limit reduction). If they got the speed mapping data accurate it would be great. But that's quite a big task, and would need almost daily user updates to achieve I suppose, especially with all the limit reductions going on. Maybe in a few years?..
Hi
I recently bought a 04 reg primera, within 1 week of driving i noticed a groaning noise coming from the front of the car who i try and move slowly in first gear, the best explanation i can give is when edging out from between parked cars with foot still on clutch and little power given on acceleration the groaning starts
The car groans for a few seconds and when i increase power it disapears ?
Brought it back to a Nissan Dealer, said there is nothing wrong with the car and it will disapear over time, but the noise is getting worse and more frequent
has anyone any clues or pointers on the problem, its getting really annoying Read more
Had the water pump & timing belt changed on my picnic last week (97, 2.0 petrol). Battery off for a while, now I have what the handbook describes as service lights on the dash.
Had the service done approx 3k ago, so should not need doing....
The lights are the oil level & handbrake light. These are on full.
Any ideas on how to reset these? The newer models you can reset by holding the trip counter, but this does not seem to work :(
Oil level fine.. Handbrake fine (in fact the light goes slightly dimmer when handbrake off, so the switch is working)
Help..... please

My thoughts exactly. Going back in tomorrow to get it cleared, but it is annoying to say the least when on the newer ones, you can reset them by using the trip meter.
According to the press West Mids police plan to start stopping many honest, decent, legal drivers and informing them
to "please remove you sat nav system when you park as it is likely to be stolen"
now
i) are they legally entitled to do mass car stop campaigns against ordinary folk who have done nothing wrong, slowing down their journey etc
ii) why do they not focus their attention on catching the criminals nicking sat nav systems?

Instead of warning drivers wouldn't the policeman be better walking VISIBLY around the car parks making sure the theives know he is there - will be far more use as a deterrent, or don't they like walking around these days?
I'm considering buying a Honda Jazz CVT Auto because of increasing left hip problems. My local dealer hasn't got one in stock for me to try so before I go to the trouble of travelling further afield, I'd appreciate comments from anyone with experience of these cars. I like the higher driving position and relatively easy access plus the apparent Honda reliability. Thanks. Read more
Good luck with it, Bert.
I missed this thread in November as we were in South Africa - where they have introduced a 1,5 litre engine as an option for the Jazz. SWMBO and I were thinking that when we retire and spend some time each year in SA, this would be ideal as the only car we'd need. Let's hope it does come to the UK - there would I'm sure be ready buyers.
SWMBO had one of the first manual Jazzes back in 2002 - great car in every respect except it was a bit frenetic on motorways. I thought it needed a 6th gear.
Hi - my car is a write-off, and I need to know whether the salvage value that the insurance company is offering to sell me my car at is accurate or not. Any ideas? Its a 1995 Peugeot 306 XND with 176,000 on the clock. It has been serviced every 6k/6 months from new, and I want to hang on to it!!!! Do they negotiate if you think the price they're offering is too steep?
Thanks!

Middle of last year my brother had is 306 S16 written off and he bought it back off the insurance company for about £85.
The scrap value of your vehicle will be very very little.
We have two inexpensive cars, with one you can put your whole clenched fist through the grill and touch the radiator.
With the other, a later model, an object about half as big again as a golf ball could pass straight through and hit either the radiator, or the intercooler.
I sorted the latter model ( the one that gets all the motorway mileage) by fitting some black mesh behind the grill.
( no change in engine temperature and now even an object the size of a pea could not hit the Rads)
Looking at other cars, its not unusual for cars of *much* greater cost to have a similar * exposed* radiator.
Which begs the question. Why are cars signed of for production like this, when anyone standing in front can see the vulnerability?
Some cars seem so exposed that they would not be much worse off if the radiator were mounted totally naked, stuck out in front of the car on by 18 inches on two rods.
Why? and has anyone seen damage as a result?

The only time I've damaged a radiator is on a Rover P6 2000 when I shut the bonnet without stowing the bonnet stay properly. It dropped into the rotating fan, which bent it so it pierced the radiator.
I was very fond of my Rover 2000. Luckily it was someone else's Rover 2000 that I did this to LOL!!!
Is a buffer just as safe/effective in applying wax and polish to a car as by hand?
I buff them off afterwards by hand. Read more

5.15am, on my way for a round of golf, going around a corner on an unlit road with on coming traffic with main beam headlights, I find an abandoned tractor trailor (india is like the phillipines in this respect) awaiting a wheel change. Swerve to avoid, hit pavement, bounce into divider, and back into pavement. Passenger side wheel takes imapact and buckles wing. drivers side front okay except for bent bumper and scuffed wheel.
Lower suspension arms are bent and replaced along with steering rods etc and car placed on jig. A chassis bend of 24mm (around lower suspension arm mount) has been found so car dismantled in order to be pulled into shape. Would appreciate inputs on
1: whether such a bend can be straightened successfully ?
2: Can a slight bend be tolerated ? If so what would be the acceptable tolerance
3: Should I repair the car and get rid of it ?

Well thats good news about your car and its nice to hear about the outcome of something that had been posted/discussed on here, especially something that you have contibuted too. Hopefully it didn't cost you a fortune to get it fixed and you should have a few more years of use from your Honda now it is fully repaired to your satisfaction.

True - well-documented issue. Push the seat well forward and look underneath from the back; the connectors may be clipped up to the under surface of the seat. You can try pulling them apart, one at a time, and pushing back together to remake the contact. Some people cut off the connectors and solder the wires together.
