Can anyone please advise as to the following? Have a carbed pre- CAT car , into which I wish to put an SPI engine of the same cc from a later model of the same car. As the car is pre-CAT, can I leave the CAT off or will I have to fit it to comply with whatever rules apply, MOT etc ?
Any input/clarification would be appreciated.
Thank you

Vehicles fitted with a different engine
"Test according to which is older, engine or vehicle.
e.g. A 1995 car fitted with a 1991 engine (of whatever make), test to 1991 standards for emission purposes.
Note: The onus is on the vehicle presenter
to prove engine age."
So if your car is pre 1991& you fit a later engine the mot test will be for a none cat car so you should be ok.
Why not ask at whatever testing station you use?

Thanks for that. I have asked at two testing stations and have been given two different answers, which is why I asked here. Dag's reply is what I wanted to hear, does everyone agree?
Thanks.
