Hi,

Still cannot make the other half decide what car she wants. (Its doing my head in now)

Drive the deal and Dealdrivers have good offers on Ford Focus, but do not offer Part exchanges. I can get one from a local dealer online site for about a £900 more.

I think the plan will be except the dealers offer, and try to sell my car privately.

Anyone know anyone else I could try to part exchange online?

Regards

Baz

Hi,

I ordered my Ford Focus Diesel today. Got to £349 difference between the dealer and the online price. It means I can try and sell my car privately between now and the end of June. If I dont manage it I can part ex it.

Anyone know how much I should get for this in a private sale. Are these good sellers?

Friend of my wife is very excited at the thought of picking up her new BMW 116se in a few days. I asked what deal she got and she was very pleased to have 12 months tax and a tank of petrol!!

Turns out she happily accepted £2500 for her 51 reg Pug 307 lx, paid full list price for the BMW and readily accepted the high APR rate on the finance deal.
I just smiled and said well done. I didn't have the heart to tell her she had been! Read more

Lets be fair a 116 is not a bad car per se. It's not the best one series but so what.

If you have the cash and dont need anything bigger, its fine.

Sure you can do exactly the same thing in £500 N reg Escort but thats not the point, anyway some people want a bit of flash.

At the end of the day the residuls will just about save her.....

My mazda 6 sport petrol, brought new on a 55 plate last sept. Paid £16500, was that a good deal? Wonder what they are going for on a 06 plate now. Read more

What - you get £3698 off? I don't think so, unless it is a Citroen!

Does anyone know where to get hold of number plate fixings that allow easy changing (for trailers). I have use of three or four trailers with two different towcars, so it would be really useful to be able to keep the appropriate plate in each car and then slide them in or clip them on to the trailer when needed.

BTW I'm looking for them to fit square plates.

Thanks in advance Read more

Where to start!!! there are plenty in Southampton, just off the bottom of the M271 is the DAF/LDV dealers, they will probably do them, failing that there is the MAN dealer on the Calmore Ind Est at Totton, You could also try Hendy Iveco in School Lane Chandlers ford, Pitters Commercials in West end - to name but a few - Sorry, don't know many in Portmouth, but there is a DAF dealer there.

I have had some new windows fitted recently,when the fitters had gone I discovered a bottle of Solvent Cleaner they had forgotton.On sniffing it(for identification purposes)there is a smell of pear drops,so am thinking it might be acetone,in which case I could try the acetone in fuel thing.Is there anyone in the trade who knows what this stuff is?The bottle is marked 'Eurocell building plastics','highly flammable','irritant'and 'dangerous to the environment'. Gromit {P}

Fruity odour = acetate (e.g. ethyl acetate, butyl acetate)
Sweet odour = acetone

Neither, of course, should be inhaled deliberately as both can cause damage by inhalation.

Acetates and car engines are unlikely to get on well, as ethyl acetate, for example, degrades some plastics.

Incidentally, the MSDS for a cleaning product (or any commercially-sensitive formulation) will tell you what type of solvent the product contains, but not necessarily the exact solvent and certainly not the composition. They're often not made readily available to the general public either, only to those in a position to buy and use the product.

Daughter's Fiesta (2000, V) has a problem with the rear wiper not always working.

Although she says that sometimes a good slam of the boot cures it, I've checked there and can't see anything suspect in the connections, so I'm taking that with a pinch of salt.

Any ideas gratefully accepted... Read more

I had something similar happen to my mk4.

It worked great until I greased the tailgate hinges and then it just stopped working at all.

All the wiring was fine and I sanded the contacts and all the things people are saying but it was the earthing through the hinges that was the problem.

Looking at the latch on the body I could see a plastic (I assume) anti-rattle 'sleeve' so I just cut that off.
It turns out that the tailgate doesn't rattle anyway and it provides a lovely big fat earth for everything (and I can grease my tailgate hinges all I like now and not worry about it affecting anything from now on).

All over a properly routed little earthing wire, the cheapskates.

When I picked up my Passat from service recently I was told that the anti-freeze was outside the VW spec and it was actually too strong.

How could this have happened given that no-one has touched the car other that the VW dealership? Read more

Thanks

12 mths ago it was within spec and nothing was added by the dealer.

Is is possible to plug a portable music player into a Ford 6000 Radio/CD ? The unit is marked as being "CD changer compatible". I take it therefore, that this unit is capable of taking input from an external audio source. I know there's those FM transmitter things, but I was thinking of a simple lead from the back of the unit, ending in a standard 3.5mm audio plug.

I have a set of prongs and I've popped the unit out from the fascia, but theres no specific markings on the back. Any ideas how I'd go about this ?

I am about to replace my trusty 1996 almera for a new one and am hoping to sell it on.The problem is the tax classification is "disabled" so I will have to remove the present tax disc from the car if i sell it.
What is the best way to go about this? If i change the classification before i sell it I will have to tax it.Can i sell it without tax?
Any help will be appreciated.

It DOES take ages. I had to stand in Chester DVLA office for ages in March because my girlfriend's new car was in Disabled not PLG class. But, relatively simple. Just annoying!
