Need some help here. We are looking for a small estate and we came across a V reg Cordoba Vario Estate 18i for a good price.
Now... I can't find any info on this model, the records (Parkers, HJ) showing that only a 1.9 diesel came to the UK in 1999.

There are cordoba 1.6 saloon but I can't find anything on a 1.8 petrol estate from 1999. Is it worth looking at it? it is a RHD car but where was it sold originally?

I am afraid that if we buy it, it will be a pain to insure though the 1.8i might be the same as VW GTi lump from the Golf.

Any info out there? (Google is usless at this stage)!

Would agree with Lokel- can't ever remember Seat making a 1.8 of these either.

I had a 1.9TDi saloon and was a fantastic car. Was very reliable. Boot on it was huge- the Mondeo we swapped it for didn't seem able to take a great deal more.

Sold it to a colleague of a friend, and 2 years on he is still really happy with the car.

In Paris at the weekend (Isn't Paris in the spring wonderful but that's another story!) and saw a chap wearing a nice rucksack. It had a huge zip on the back that looked a bit like a tyre tread when closed. Should stop all the zip jamming that I get with my feeble walking type rucksack.
Anyone know how to get one?

Thanks

Yes, I should have asked him, though as you say mind was eleswhere:)
The ones on ebay I found are called C2 rucksacks. This chap had a bigger thing altogether. Will keep a check on ebay though.

I am thinking of buying a 205 diesel.
The owners say the only problem with the car is that occasionally the brakes stick on when braking. (and to solve the problem they just brake again)

Is this a problem which can be easily rectified?
or is it an expensive fix.

The car is good value N Reg, 1996, 45000 miles FSH, 5-Door for just £900

Thanks

A 1.5 old diesel is cheaper road tax as its under 1542cc and therefore attracts the £110 tax for year if older than 2001,much better than £190 i think for knocking about in.

Morning

I'm thinking of looking at an LGP conversion for my Subaru Outback - not urgently, but say in 2-3 years time. I'm thinking this might be a good way to go as we are going to have this car for a long time.

Not spoken to my Subaru dealer yet, but does anyone know anything about this ?

eg. of any sources of info, where work can be done, what are the implications as far as warranties are concerned and so on.

Of course I will be Googling but I would welcome comments from anyone who has either gone down this line or is considering themselves.

Thanks

The Subaru conversion in Germany is marketed as a ´hybrid system´, bizarrely enough.

I ran a Daewoo Nubira estate for a year (don´t laugh) which had a dealer-fitted LPG system. A couple of observations:

1) The expected 10% increase in fuel consumption running on LPG was more like 15-20% IME. Worth factoring in to fuel saving calculations.

2) The doughnut LPG tank in the tailgate spare wheel recess had a pretty small capacity. 300KM was about the maximum I could run it on LPG alone for. Apparently it´s possible to fill the tank 100%, rather than the standard 80-85%, by fiddling with the cut off valve or something, but this removes the expansion allowance.

3) Having the spare tyre filling up boot space was a bit annoying.

4) It used to backfire through the air filter which would blow its cover off - amusing, but a bit scary for cyclists.

5) Long journies across Germany needed a bit of forward planning to find LPG stations on or near the Autobahn network, but the info is on the ´net.

In short it was a joy to fill the thing so cheaply, but other aspects of LPG ownership were a bit of a pain.

The engine eventually let go in a big way - whether this had something to do with its LPG fuel diet I don´t know. My suspicion is that the loony Italian who had it before me hadn´t had it serviced enough, but there you go.

Hi chaps,

Does anyone know how you change the main beam bulb on a Vauxhall Corsa C. The Corsa i have is only 2 months old and is fitted with what Vauxhall call ellipsoidal headlights. The dipped beam can be changed no problem but the bulb holder for the main beam seems to be covered by part of the bodywork and you can't get your hand in to change it, the owners manual says to consult a dealer for them to change it. Does anyone know wether you have to remove the headlight itself as in the Mk4 fiesta or is there a easier way.
Any help please.

If I had a two month old Corsa with a failed bulb I think my local Vauxhall dealer would do it for me under the warranty. Hardly fair wear & tear after only two months.

Hi
Own a 53reg X-Trail dci sport, facelift model. I have been offered one of the Nissan sat nav units which was originally from a pre-facelift model. It looks as if it is the right size to fit into the space below the radio currently occupied by a cubby hole with a hinged fascia.
Does anyone know if the unit will interchange between the two models? Also and more importantly do Nissan use a common wiring loom so the unit can be plugged straight in? Can I expect to find the relevant plugs behind the cubbyhole? Splicing the unit in would put me off, don't think I could do it myself.

The model no. for the sat nav unit is XM-001D(NE)

Other numbers are 'B8200 C9982 Central Unit'

My friend only wants 100 pounds for it and I know it's legit..... Read more

Thanks for that Ashok, have made a bid. The system is by Xanavi for Nissan, about the size of a standard car radio slot. The screen folds away into the unit when not in use rather like a cassette.Decent size screen too, operated by a remote control.

Friend of mine paid £1500 for it as an optional extra, when trading in the dealer wouldn't take it into account for valuation purposes so he removed it on principal....dealer wasn't too happy!!

Think you're right about buying it anyway, nothing ventured nothing gained

I have just put 7 litres of petrol in the tank of my new model Vauxhall Astra. The tank was half full of disel and I then topped it up with diesel and drove two miles home thinking I would siphon the tank.

It doesn't appear possible to siphon the tank so I guess it's an expensive garage job tomorrow.

Anyone had experience of this??. Read more

Hi, i'm in the process of changing my 1.9 diesel engine over and the engine mount castings on the block are in a different place everything else on the Engine is in the same place just the mounts seem to be wrong , any ideas what i should do ? Read more

There was a model change around '95, you don't say what year your van or the engine are but the mounting points are different pre and post '95; possibly the replacement engine is from the wrong year?

I have my first automatic car: Passat PD130 Highline tiptronic 2004.

The box works ok whilst the car is moving. The problem comes when I start it in the morning when it has been parked overnight, handbrake on and the lever in "Park." It then needs brute force to pull the lever out of "Park", even though I have my foot on the brake pedal.

Any thoughts please?

The car has done 36,000. I have had it for about 2500. It has a full main dealer history and I am taking it back to the dealer's in the next few days for them to have a look. I know it has been used for towing by its previous owner and I wonder if this has caused premature gearbox wear.

any ideas about a manual for this car Haynes dont produce one.The toyota site is very expensive for an amateur to use. Is the new" MR2 sufficiently out of the Yaris to make that the manual of choice? Read more
