any ideas about a manual for this car Haynes dont produce one.The toyota site is very expensive for an amateur to use. Is the new" MR2 sufficiently out of the Yaris to make that the manual of choice? Read more
My MG Zs 120 is driving me crazy. Sometimes it misfires as I'm going along for no obvious reason . This will continue throughout the journey. Next day or next time it is started it is fine. Garage can't find anything, no engine lights come on . It also "hunts" when idling often shooting up to 2000 revs then back to 500. Sometimes it sticks at 2000 plus on idle.
I know quite early on if it is going to be a problem . But often it goes 3 or 4 days without a proble. Any yhought s and help would be much apreciated. Cheers

Cheers both , I'll do this .
I?ve just had my first service on my L reg Honda CRX (2 seater roadster). I have used a main dealer as it?s my first service on this car and I?m aware that it needs a little TLC. The service has identified quite a few items that need doing:
The service itself was £168. The other items that apparently need doing are:
Cam cover gasket = £42
New battery = £65
Something (?rubber boots??) on driveshaft = £255
Distributor = £427
Water pump & Cam belt = £311
These prices include parts, labour and VAT.
I?m told that the highest priority items are the first 3 items, with the remaining 2 being less urgent.
Are these reasonable costs, or am I being ripped off? It is an old car, and parts wear out, but I do want to check that I?m not being taken for a ride.
Any advice appreciated.

I personally would never dream of taking a 12 year old car to a main dealer for service/repair.
As others have already said, a good independent is the way to go.
No Haynes manual on this car - any advice on changing the timing belt? Do I need to change the tensioner? Are any special tools required? All help much appreciated. Read more
Well, I thank you all for your help and advice. You have to admit though, its not cut and dried. Inchcape of Oxford have offered to have a look - they say it'll take 2 minutes - and confirm one way or the other - probably as Aprilia says, by looking at the cover. One point though - a chain is noisier than a belt, so I wonder if by putting a rod on the cover then to me ear'ole, I could hear the chain links rumbling over the sprockets? Any last thoughts?? I'll let you all know under a new heading "Yaris d4d chain/belt solved"
I'm off to Turkey for two weeks on Monday so I'll post early June. My Yaris's consumption is pretty good (I hope!!): lowest 69mpg, highest 83, average about 75. Anyone else getting these sort of figures? Thanks again, everyone, good wishes, pillyb
I'm trying to decide between a number of small cars. Perhaps people might have some opinions.
I've just sold a Subaru Justy and whilst it was reliable - part prices were pretty scary.. so I want something which is cheap to fix (but not down the Ford/Vauxhall route)
My options are
106 (1.1 or 1.5 diesel)
205 (1.8 diesel - but getting long in the tooth now)
Saxo (how does it compare to 106?)
Polo (1.0)
Alternatively I'm quite interested in the VW Lupo and Seat Arosa. This is what I was looking for until
someone said a cambelt on a Arosa is £400!
I'm on a budget of about £1500
I'm ideally after good mpg. Insurance I'm not bothered too much about.
Thanks

That's a little spanker!
Hi
I recently had my MOT done amidst all the problems with the MOT Central Computer. When I went to collect the car I was given a pink emergency MOT certificate and told I could come and pick up the proper MOT certificate a few weeks later.
I called the garage today to enquire into when I could come and pick it up, and was told that I didn't need to so not to bother.
It almost seems like they are trying to get rid of me (as I imagine they have alot of customers wanting their proper MOT certificates). So do I need the proper MOT certificate, and should I demand I get one, or should I be OK wihtout it and just leave it?
Thanks Read more
By now your garage shoould have confirmed all its emergency tests and produced certificates as that problem has now been closed. Go and ask them for the certificate again or ring VOSA.
As far as I am concerned (and I appreciate it may not be the view of many people), there are only two designs of car, boxes on wheels and the early Jaguar E type. Sadly appart from one memorable half hour I am destined forever to own and drive the former. To get to the point of this posting I am looking for a good quality picture or poster, the bigger the better.Does anyone know where I can find one?
Keep upright

The final series E-type looked better with its wider track but the grille was a bit untidy. Had it been built with the original grille and faired in headlights it would have looked better. These cars were known as V12 E-types but the V12 engine was originally an option while the standard car had the 4.2 litre 6-cylinder XK engine. So few 6-cylinder cars were ordered that the model was soon dropped and they are a great rarity.
The same thing happened with the Jaguar XK120 when it was announced in 1948 , the first car with the famous XK engine.
The base model was to be the XK100 with a 4-cylinder engine but nobody ordered any so none were sold but in recent years a batch of 4-cylinder Jagaur twin-cam engies were found in the corner of a factory - I wonder if any were used to create a Jaguar XK100!
Does anyone know whether you have to disturb the the Turbo water cooling pipes to gain access to the timing cover and belts on an 98 A6 1.8T. Regards Peter Read more
I didn't have to on an A4 with an AEB engine and the engine layout is the same....
All
I have an R-Reg Audi A3 1.8T. When reversing out of my garage I hear a loud bang quite regularly. The garage has a steep slope leading down to the road, and the noise occurs just as the rear wheels go onto the down slope. It's not any impact with surroundings.
It sounds like the handbrake popping off, however it doesn't feel like the handbrake sticks and the noise does not occur in any situation other than reversing out of th garage.
Does anyone have any ideas what it might be? I'm sure forum members will anyway, but please feel free to ask for further details - I'm afraid to say I can't think what circumstances would cause this banging noise but I can clarify if anyone has any ideas.
Thanks

Try reversing into the garage and see if the noise happens whilst going forward.
It may be something fouling the ground slightly on the slope on the way out. You'd need to get underneath and check for scrapes on the exhaust or any other low-ish part
Having just coughed up £52 to the AA for european cover for a 12 day trip to France on top of the £120 renewal last year, collegue & work mentioned Green Flag include european cover at no extra cost. Is this true?
If so it's bye bye to the AA in September Read more
That's correct. We have a HSBC plan that includes the top Green Flag Euro cover for the car, and emergency home water and electrics cover. Its £11.75p a month. Some years ago it was closed to new customers, but we were allowed to continue. Seems an OK deal. We have used the home cover for an electrical cut out, plus blocked drains twice. Worked well.
mm nice..........
