I hope you guys can give me some advice. I have a '53 plate tranny tourneo mini bus 2.0 tdci, its a taxi, it has 165k miles on the clock. 11 months since I had a replacement dmf flywheel and clutch fitted, without checking the invoice i think it had 125k on the clock then. Since then, every now and again the engine cuts out when you ask it for power changing from 2nd to 3rd gear, such as accelerating away up hill both empty and loaded to the gunnels. The heater plug glow light flashes on the dash. I turn the ignition off and then re start it after about 5 seconds and all is fine, till it happens again. It happens very infrequently perhaps 2 or 3 times a month. Could it be the clutch wasn't fitted correctly in the first place. I took it back to the garage, ford specialists, within a month, they road tested it but of course it did not do it. To my shame i have just carried on with it as i need the vehicle to earn a living and i have had so much go wrong with it from new i cannot really afford any major repairs again. I am afraid to take it in now as i fear i will be told it is something else, I have paid out over £5k in the last year with it. Now, considering that the clutch is 11 months old and has done 40k ish would i still be eligable for a free replacement, it was a ford replacement part. Anyone any ideas?? Read more
Just got back from Gatwick airport (M23/M25 up to junction 25 for A10). Starting to get dark, raining all the way home. For some reason, lots of surface water and road seemed quite treacherous.
Everyone's speeding along despite the conditions (including me for that matter), fixated on getting home as quickly as possible.
Lots of waves of water in every lane which would make aquaplaning a distinct possibility. I decided to slow down to 50, and move over.
At that point, others slowed down too. I thought perhaps I'd set an example.
No! It was the sight of flashing police lights up ahead that slowed them down. On the hard shoulder was a car that had crashed a few minutes before, and was lying upside down. Did that make anyone think twice?
No! Off everyone went at 80,90,100 again.
A few minutes later, there flashing blue lights holding up traffic on the other carriageway.
Oh, look a Subaru Impreza that had crashed into the central reservation. Wait a minute, don't those cars have 4WD which people think makes them ultra safe, even in the rain? Perhaps he aquaplaned too at too high a speed?
Despite these two incidents, the general pace of traffic continued at speeds which any SANE individual would deem reckless and completely bonkers.

"I think perhaps the only way to learn a hard lesson is to be involved in an accident"
This is obvious really. Until that accident happens, one's own statistical survey proves that they don't. What is all the fuss about? Driving is a totally safe activity. There are no children just round the corner, no-one on the wrong side of the road ...
I have jaguar x type diesle 53reg 32k the turbo has blown and damaged the engine has any one else had trouble with this as I have been told this is a common fault with x types but dealer disagrees

I have a 2.2 diesel and contribute to a couple of jag forums - this is the first one I've heard of so I would agree with the dealer that it is not common.
I am looking to buy one of the above cars.
I have looked all over the Autotrader and local papers, and can't find a good low mileage one which my dad really wants.
He lives in Brighton, I live in London. Where else can I get one of these cars from. Any ideas of auctions that sell them?
Thanks Read more
I see from the link above that is for a 2.4L
model too.
Alot of car indeed.
Toyota (Australia) used to do a 2.0L 4 cylinder as well...but neither of the 4 cylinder versions sold as well as the V6 3.0L so the 2.0L was dropped.
Similar story at Mitsubishi....the Magna used to be available with a 4 cylinder 2.4L but this was dropped in favour of the 3.0L V6.
Regarding price comparisons...locally (ie asia-pacific region) cars are very good value in Oz, imported cars are not such good value. The Camry for the Oz market certainly used to be built in Oz.
This van, which is lovely but slow, has got a strange arrangement for the fan belts, the crank drives a belt to the water pump, which has 2 pulleys on the end, the second one drives the alternator, I want to tighten the belt between the crank and the waterpump, the belt is a bit slack and it has started squealing in the wet, there is no obvious means of tightening it, as the crank pulley and the waterpump, are fixed relative to each other.
Any Ideas ???

Another possibility is that the waterpump is eccentric and it rotates in it's housing to tension the primary belt. Are there three clamping bolts holding it in?
Hi, recently bought the Lancer (1992, 1.5 GLX) and noticed the heater blower only works on position 4 (full) which is too fast (and loud)! Is this the resistor, and if so where would I find it (behind the switch on dash?)
Cheers. Read more
Ok, thanks oldman, I think the motor is behind dash, maybe I can get at it without removing dash by reaching behind!
Has anyone noticed the decline of the general highway condition in this country or is it just me? The roads have always been full of defects and in general poor condition for as long as I can remember but in the last few years the general conditions seem to be far worse than ever before. I find my self regularly having to avoid defects such as sunken grids, surface deterioration amongst others that are so bad they would actually damage a motor vehicle. In my experience when defects are reported very little if nothing at all is done.
Only recently I had to take my local authority to the small claims court after they refused to pay up for a damaged tyre and front suspension arm. I did win the case but the defect has still not been repaired! It surely has come to something when vehicle tracking seems to be way out of alignment after a mere 800-1000 miles. Are the highways in desperate need of immediate attention or am I just being fussy?

What\'s for you won\'t pass you by
My climate control on my 97 passat has stopped working. Via the internet, I discovered how to access the fault code (pressing far left and far right buttons simultaneously for 5 secs) which gave me a code of 4FA 00. Now of course VW will not tell me what this means ..just bring it in for a 2 day job they say...I dont think so... Any ideas please anyone Thanks

Hi
Did you post this problem on the Bently's website? If so, please check it for my solution to your problem. If not, please let me know and I'll post it here.

On march 27 i bought a 55 plate galaxy via ford direct. We were expected to pick the car up a week later,i have 4k finance through ge finance (for which i have already paid first months installment)and 14k cash to pay on pick up.
We have had a lot of knock backs from then till now and the car is still at ford and warrenty is ticking away same as the tax etc.
My dilema is after a number of times telling ford that we will pick it up and failing if i decided not to go ahead or as i would rather (as the galaxyies are dropping in price i dont really want to pay 18k on a car when now i have seen cars of same spec for 1.5k less)
What options have i got if any, expected date for handover is once again may 8.If i pay the finance off and i dont buy car who owes me the finance?

"and money is sitting in my partners bank account". The money seems to be available but there is a problem getting it for the partner's account to the showroom? I do agree with Espada that the storyline is hard to follow so I hope that my input is not offensive to the OP!
I don't suppose I've done too badly given it's worked perfectly for 7 years but I think the gas has run out on my aircon.
I was just moving the car and had the aircon on and you can hear the condenser kicking in every 10 seconds or so and the air doesn't feel especially cold. Is this because the car has stopped? It worked fine the other night but I assume that because the condenser is kicking in so often is because the gas is so low? (Ordinarily it you can only hear it kicking in when you're stopped every 5-10 minutes or so)
If it has run out, does anyone know of a decent place in the North West willing to re-gas it. How much would I be looking at?
Preferably somewhere close to either Liverpool or Manchester but if it's a decent place I'd be willing to travel (within reason!).
Many Thanks,
Adam

You see it where the leak is but I think you need a UV light to see it.

Thanks for all your replies. I thought it was something to do with the clutch as it started happening when I changed gear from 2nd to 3rd. I have trawled the net for problems relating to ford transits. On a forum for tranny van owners I found a posting from a chap who was having a similar problem to mine, cutting out when asking for power etc, a reply on that forum told him to have his actuator valve checked out. Anyway thanks again guys.
