Starting to enjoy this. The CBR 1000 went to a happy owner for £1600. No offers no hassle. I now find myself wanting to dispose of a Y reg. Honda CG125, not the boxy new shape but the "classic" shape. It's Japanese made one. It's a grey import with an MPH speedo and a Km Odometer. (Strange) 3.3k Km o its clock. What's it worth ? My mother has had her Volvo 760 estate for 15 years and it's getting near to change time. She will keep this car but will want a new replacement. She is 76 and has driven Volvos for 40 years and is obviously quite loyal. But she might be persuaded to but something else if it meets her needs:
1. Must be a large estate for carrying her music equipment around, trips to garden centres and ferrying 'all those old people around'.
2. Automatic tramsmission.
3. Climate control and sunroof
4. No diesels.
5. Nothing French or Italian.
6. She only does 6K a year.
7. She's a bit of a badge snob. (Yes I know how silly this is)
8. Leather interior.
9. Must be reliable.
10. She has a good pension and can afford 20K to spend outright, no finance. She is a business person and can do a good deal with any salesperson.
She likes the V70 but is there anything else that might suit her?

Bought myself some Halfords semi-synthetic 15W40 for my BMW motorcycle (dry clutch so OK). Meets BMWs grade and specification BUT a general note on can says the oil is not suitable for post 1980 vehicles with fuel injection. Why?

I have a very simple but quite urgent question that many br people can answer off the tops of their heads, but I can't because I've never owned one.
Is and injected 1983 Pinto engine in a Ford Scorpio provided with hydraulic tappets? My hostess's example here in the mountains of S. Spain sounds tappety at 197k kilometres. Does it need its clearances adjusted, or have the hydraulic tappets worn out?
Fast response wd be much appreciated.

I watched it drive away a couple of times and never saw anything but a bit of vapour from a cold engine. But I never followed it on the road, so perhaps it's smoking a bit. Not much though, for sure.

Sounds to be too good to be true but this is what my son has paid for the above in Houston Texas,

I drove one in Canada for a week last year. I had done 30000KM's and was in fairly rough condition (which I like in a hire car because I don't have to worry about it picking up dings!) but I was very impressed. At 100ish KM/h (approx 70MPH) on concrete freeways it was all but silent and its lazy engine and auto box were just perfect for holiday cruising. Life would be much more relaxed if we could all drive that in the UK (with a quart 'cup' of coffee in the cupholder!).
As for the price, then $20K seems about right - bear in mind the exchange rate make that seem cheaper right now. Also there's no VAT on the original price in the US (local sales tax is added on, but the prices are always shown pre tax). The spec may also be significantly different - I don't think 4WD is standard, at least it isn't on a lot of SUV's in the US.
Of course there's the not insignificant cost of converting the car (in limited volumes) to RHD.
There are amazing lease deals on new cars in the US, and that's the way many cars are bought - I guess that must really depress the value of nearly-new cars.
On my 1995 306 3 door i have a leak in the boot which i cannot find. Ive tried the obvious of sealing the weather strip with silicone but without success. I get the feeling its comming in when driving as aposed to just 'running in'. The water seems to pool at the very rear of the boot where the jack and wheel brace sit. Just wondered if there are any places I could seal check?
Thanks all Read more
With mine it was a perished rubber seal on the boot handle.

I have a 1985 Polo that I used for teaching my daughter to drive. Now she's passed and moved on to a 'better' car, I'm left with the Polo (as well as mine). The car will soon be due for MOT, tax and insurance and although it's in reasonable condition for year, I'm reluctant to spend the best part of £50 to get it through a test only to be able to sell it for less than £100 (and the chances are it will need a bit of work at least). I'm therefore tempted to simply scrap it which seems a shame because it runs well and is reasonable for year. I know it's a fairly simple choice between spending and selling or scrapping but I'm just interested to hear what others might suggest.
Thanks

Many thanks for all the reeplies. I perhaps should have said, it does have 6 weeks MOT left. Following your advice, I'm going to try selling it as it is by advertising it at work, in the supermarket etc. I've nothing to lose really!

Hello!
I am new to the forum, and love it and have read many posts, and look forward to contributing in the future. I work in the car business selling cars in Toronto, Canada at a corporate owned dealership. However, my experience in this area doesn't really help me offer advice to my mother in ENgland who wants to buy my sister a 'previously loved' small car for under 2000 quid. My instict was to suggest a Ford Ka - would anyone aggree with me? it seems Ka's at this point have approx 50,000 miles on them - this suprised me when you can get a new one for 4,500 pounds (sorry, not pound symbol on this canadian keyboard, only $!!!) Any other suggestions would be very greatfully recieved from anyone who has time to help in anyway. Looking for a small, reliable vehicle that isn't over budget - thanks!

Being a member of Freecycle, I thought that it was worth posting it here, as there may be someone here who lives near Bideford in Devon and may be able to make use of it.
I have no connection with the person who is giving it away.

all old receipts for work done. MOT until 2nd June, no tax (put 6

have just bought a new car which needs to be taxed!). Can't afford to
run 2 cars after buying new vehicle yesterday, and rather than scrap
it I thought it might as well go to a good home. Mechanic thinks it
should go through MOT ok the only thing he was doubtful of is the
handbrake which may need cable adjustment. Also there may be a problem
with the alternator? (can get secondhand one for about 40 quid
apparently) All round good solid car, great workhorse and very
comfortable for both driver and passengers.

She hasn't made her mind up yet, she's been to look at the V70 and finds it's big enough for her needs though. The Accord and the X-Type are on the shopping list.
She said she will stop driving when she hits 80, time to fully retire from work.
