In july 2002 i purchase an espace the race 2.2 dci, i had it replaced end of october as being to dangerous to drive.
After 4,930 miles it required a new engine, and now with only 51,000 miles on the clock i have been told another is required. In between initial purchase and problems occuring i also purchased a scenic fidji 1.9, within 3 months and under 6,000 miles it also required a new engine
Has anyone else suffered as much bad luck or do renault have problems with diesel engines???

Hi,
I have been asked to change the passenger side headlight unit (cracked) on my sister-in-law's 1994 Astra this weekend. As the 'haynes manual' is already 'out' at my local library, I thought I'd ask here for help..
Can someone advise the best course of action to change the unit..
Cheers,

I carried a couple of bags of horse manure in my car 2 weeks ago...I can still smell it !
I think one of the bags must of had a leak, it contained horse manure mixed with straw.
I've tried a shake N vac and an Airwick aerosol neutraliser to no avail.
Any recommendatios on removal ?

Fifi the faithful RF hound had a few weeks back found a particularly fetid and stinky pond to wallow about in, it was so bad the smell got into the waterproof boot liner and stank the car the high heaven. (it always has a gentle aroma of dribbling lab, but this was Bad)
A Neutradol freshener (sticky block with vent holes in it) was purchased form the Tesco Garage, and stuck in a random spot in the car
Two days later its perfect again.

I am sure this has been discussed before but is it just me that finds it immensely frustrating when there are two lanes going to one and the right lane is empty whilst there is a long tailback in the left lane?
Yet, when you try and use the right lane all you get is someone in the left lane pulling over to block the road?
Surely it would be much better if everyone used both lanes and then filtered into each other gradually?
Rant over :)

Couldn't agree more. I drive a 1.2 Fiat Punto on the morning commute. Not the fastest car, I know!! On one part of the journey there is about 500 yds of two-lane road after a roundabout, with a reasonable incline all the way to where it merges to one lane. If you've got a car with the appropriate grunt to go around me on the hill, fair enough: blatter on. Even so, a Punto doing 45-50mph 450 yds into that 500yd section is still a car doing 45-50 mph. So why do drivers of similar sized cars think they have the right to 'creep' up the outside, engine screaming, frame rattling, only to force me to break hard about 20 yds from the end? Are you such a person?
Rant over.

A little while ago mfarrow {P} was able to point me at the correct wire on the multi-plug of the 'Powertrain Control Module' to take the signal for a rev counter on my mk 4 Fiesta (and I am very grateful for that too).
My pal was so impressed he asked if I could do the same on his mk5 Escort.
I'm presuming it is a similar deal (the clocks are identical) so could anyone help me and let me know the pin connection number and the wire colours necessary on that Escort type, please? Read more
After a long long time of talking about buying a new vehicle I'm about to do just that. I'am about to buy a new Renault Trafic and have trawled the net and main dealers trying to get the best deal.
The Renault main dealers price for an identical vehicle is £1100 more than that from a vehicle broker. By broker I mean the type of firm that has full page colour spreads in the Trader pushing leasing. They also will sell the vehicles outright and like I said will undercut the main dealer on an identical vehicle by £1100.
£1100 is a big saving but my question is; what sort of back up do I get with buying from these broker type people, if any, compared to the main dealer? How easy is it to deal with warranty issues with the main dealer should they arise?
Any issues or pitfalls with buying from a "broker"? Is it worth paying £1100 more at a main dealer for peace of mind?
btw I didn't want a Renault but Vauxhall seem to be making buying a new Vivaro as difficult as possible with currently a 2 month wait for factory orders whereas apparently Renaults Trafics are sitting at the docks with electric packs and air con almost thrown in with the price.

Roly has pretty much hit it on the head - the dealer knows that the broker will supply enough customers for him to hit his sales targets so they can afford to do only the best (most profitable) deals on the retail side of things.
Just bought a new house, its old and has a small garage
Need to change my cars, so one can fit in the garage
I am thinking about a c1/107/toyota one or a panda
Anything else worth considering?
Gut feel is the panda, but then which one? 1.1 or 1.2
And then used or new, on AT they start at £4k for a 2004 1.1, but you can get this brand new via "drive the deal" for £5.8
Any advice welcome Read more

On Wednesday of last week, I had some work carried out on our Xantia following an MOT test failure the previous week. The garage that carried out the work also got the car re-tested for me, at a test centre local to them.
When I went to collect the car the following day, the test certificate still hadn't been issued, owing to problems with the new computerised system. I was told that an emergency certificate was available but had not been collected from the test centre. I was told it would be posted on to me.
I hadn't received it by today, so I phoned the garage proprietor to ask why. He was quite candid and said he had forgot to do it and would see I would get it today or tomorrow. It was pushed through our letter box this evening (no knock at the door or anything to let us know it had been delivered).
The test and issue date is today, which is obviously nonsense. I assume it means there is some questionable practice here? Read more
I dont understand the fuss. Your car was tested and
passed but due to vosa computer problems they couldnt issue a
cert. When you reminded them the guy sorted out a
certificate and hand delivered it to your door. I would
guess that the date was the date he did it because
it was easiest/quickest way to sort out a new certificate.
See my earlier post below. The garage proprietor did me no favours in delivering the certificate, as he had mislaid the original and had forgot all about it before I rang him yesterday. I don't think the tester was best pleased from what he said when I spoke to him.

Can't be banned - It's constantly pushed on the TV infomercials on daytime TV. Shout about it long and loud enough and someone will buy it.

My friends dCi engine was wrecked when the timing belt broke.
Apprently the ancillary belt that drives the PAS etc. came off and went into the timing belt assembly nearby, thus totaling the engine.
It was not because of lack of servicing because it had spent most of the time at the dealership fixing something or other.
