When I buy a second hand car off a bloke in France, usually presumably, like UK, I would fill out my Name and address on the registration form and send it off to French DVLA....
But as a UK resident, would I put or give the seller my UK address? And what would I have to show DVLA Swansea that the car is mine? and to be registered in UK.
Basically, can you tell me what I can expect to be the normal procedure, for buying a used car off Joe Bloggs or Jean Dupont and bringing it home within the same week. Read more
Naturally, my condolences go to the girl's family.
And out of respect for the people concerned, I've locked this thread. DD.
Can't seem to find one. Good Pub Guide - great book, but website isn't much cop at this kind of search.
Any clues? Or cutting to chase, looking for somewhere decent to stay for a night twixt M6/M1 junction and say M Keynes without going miles and miles from M1.

I have a chance to buy an O2 PDA at a bargain price. I believe a Tom Tom nav system can be used with it. Any body here have use or knowledge of either? Read more
CheckPOInt is still free and pretty good. Only problem with it tends to be that you get multiple cameras indicated where there's only actually one. A product of the distributed way they collect the camera locations.

Problem: Steering wheel shakes/moves/vibrates in a clockwise/anticlockwise fashion. Wheels balanced, new tyres on back (continental) and front(goodyear), back wheels swapped to front and front to back, still happens.
basically the wheel shakes/vibrates clockwise and then anticlockwise, always seems to be worse after braking shakes worse at speed but noticible at 30/40. Anyone any ideas?
Thanks in advance Read more
Hi All
Many thanks for the suggestions to the above problem, however I thought I would let you know how things faired. After many, many trips to my local Nissan main dealer, touch wood, the problem has been resolved. After intensive checks by main dealer, who incidentally called the Nissan trouble shooter chap down, it turns out that there was dirt on the face of the wheel hub, which was causing the wheel to not fit properly - bizarre, you bet, but it was claened and things seem to be better for the moment. The main dealer was very thorough, and checked geometry of the car and many other things suggested by Nissan.
OK I would just like to recommend the garage Nissan Main Dealer in Weston Super Mare, many thanks for the perseverance of the service manager.

I have recently bought myself a 2000 (W) Renault Laguna 1.6 16v. Having spent some time finding the right one I found they often sound like the exhaust is blowing from the manifold (my one included). This is especially noticable when the car is cold but is still there once the car has warmed up.
I have been told this is quite normal for a 1600cc 16 valve Laguna. Anyone else had any experience of this?
Cheers

OK, Not only does the late model have two Cats, it also has two lambda sensors so doing away with one cat would still leave me with an engine management problem.
So I took said manifold to my local heavey vehicle engineering shop to see if they could braze it up. (Avoid ANYBODY who says they can weld it!) "Yeah" they could do it. It would be back in a day, cost about £20!! Result, no more faffing around with dealers who wouldn't return my emails or scouring E-bay.
Just received the Renewal Notice from a well known Insurance Co for Breakdown cover on 2 cars (Recovery plus inc Homestart) - Incl 3 years No Call Out Discount of 15% = £115.50 premium. I have been with them for 20+ years - always with 1 car as often the newer car was covered under New Car Warranty - I have only broken down once in all that time.
So I checked the website of its sister company - same owners but flies a different flag - - Recovery Plus inc Homestart i.e. same level of cover the Premium is just under £93.
I then thought of trying my Car Insurance Co to extend the cover to include Breakdown Cover - after pressing 7/8 buttons I was connected to a call centre in Asia........ and matters went downhill very fast.
Even if their quote had been £50 they would not have got the business and I will seriously re-consider my car insurance renewal. Asking for Breakdown Cover quote was painful - what would it be like trying to claim on Car Insurance when the telephone lines are poor and the understanding of English in the call centre is limited.
To be fair the young man's English greatly exceeds my abilities at French but it does not instill confidence in me as a policyholder if I wanted to make a claim after an accident.
Breakdown Cover - I will still keep looking. Read more
I've just had my renewal note through from Green Flag for Rescue cover.
£56.70, up from £50.40 last year and £43.05 the year before. And that includes 2 years No Callout Discount. (Actually, I've never called a breakdown company to rescue me).
Quick calculation showed an increase of over 30% in just two years - well above the rate of inflation. It's not worth quibbling about a few pounds, of course, but I thought it was rather a big increase.
Anyone know if AA & RAC are hiking their prices in a similar way?

I have a Pipercross cone filter on my Vauxhall Zafira, I removed the standard box and installed the cone filter, now I have read the intake on the standard air box is reduced to restrict air flow etc, however, fitting the cone does make a wonderful sound and has increased fuel economy according to the on board computer, now having said all of that, the air being sucked into the air filter must be cold, more cold air molecules on the surface of the piston etc, so you will probably need an air intake tube or a Pipercross Viper unit, is it worth £220 approximately? I am thinking of using Purolator air filters, I use the oil and fuel filter and they are good.
Hi,
I need a spare wheel for my caravan. The size stamped on it is
5 1/2J X 14 H2. If I find a used wheel with the same stamp will it be an exact match?
Many thanks,
