VW anti-freeze no longer in spec - Halmer
When I picked up my Passat from service recently I was told that the anti-freeze was outside the VW spec and it was actually too strong.

How could this have happened given that no-one has touched the car other that the VW dealership?

Is this a new car,or secondhand?,can only think if secondhand any water drop was replaced with neat anti freeze rather than just water on its own.

If new, it may have been overfilled with antifreeze, which may possibly have an adverse affect on cooling engine? depending on how strong it is

The 'Pink' antifreeze used by VW changes from bright pink to a muddy brown if contaminated. It also changes colour if the smallest amount of blue antifreeze is added.
This colour change is easily seen in the plastic expansion tank. I guess that the mechanic noticed a colour change, and reported accordingly.
The rental VW Lt's I work on (from new) usually retain the coolant level and colouring for 100k miles plus. The local VW van dealer says that any 'Warranty' coolant related problems will be disallowed if the coolant is the wrong colour !

My recent service said antifreeze was only good for -15C rather than -25C of new spec.. As an earlier thread I drained down the header tank and topped it up with a strong anti freeze /deionosed water solution. Have you got your earlier service receipts with the antfreeze tests? I suggest the garage has topped up the coolant with straight antifreeze sometime.
