It seems that quite a lot of fleet type vehicles are registered in Bristol perhaps because, a/ because they come off the boat in Portbury and are prepared locally before onward shipment to the user and/or b/ because there are a few vehicle prep companies in the Portbury area that fit out UK built and well as foriegn vans etc for the likes of BT.

The pipe from the Windscreen wash fluid tank pump has decided to disconnect itself. Now when I pull the lever for a squirt of water onto the windscreen, I get a vertical jet in my engine bay. Looking at the location of this washer fluid pump.

I am wondering how to get to the broken connection.

When I find it, would it be best to secure it with a cable tie or something. If it's happened once now, I'm sure it'll happen again.

Common Mark 2 Mondeo problem, had it myself.

Access is by removing the radiator undershield, three bolts. You might have to slacken off the bolts holding the reservoir in position, but I managed to get the pump out without doing this.

Pump pulls out from bottom of reservoir, might be an idea to drain it first unless you want your arm soaked in screenwash fluid!

While you're down there it might be worth pulling out the rubber filter that the pump pushes into and giving it a good wash under a tap to prevent future problems occurring.

Use cable ties to keep plastic pipes from coming off pump, replace pump, and refill reservoir. Tighten bolts if loosened and replace radiator undershield.

That's it!

Now that the new tax year has started, i hope that my local District Council will find it within themselves to authorise PROPER repair to 12 miles of A417 east of Cirencester. The surface and general condition of the carriageway is deplorable. Having had to re-align my suspension again i'm not best pleased. I wonder what the money (that was earmarked for repairs), has been spent on over the years? Sorry to rant on. Read more

Yes, do tell them. I don't apologize for posting this link again, as it gives you all the government websites, local and central:

Hi,
Seen a R reg 306, 5 door, 63K miles, diesel for sale in my local paper.
What should I check for when I go to view?
Are the non-turbo engines prone to breaking their con-rods as in HJ's car-by-car reviews?
Any advice will be gratefully received.
Regards, Ian Read more

if you want my advise ib33 take note of the engine numbers hj has posted and stear clear if the car you are interested in is one of these, also get down and get under the front of the car and make sure the radiator isnt leaking, they are prone to this and the time before your dash light comes on and you have stopped is usually too long to save the engine unless you are in town.
Apart from that all the usual stuff, but bear in mind the car is still 9 years old.

I have ordered a new Volvo C70 and paid 10% deposit (10 days ago). They cannot give me a delivery time other than "in Q4 2006". My questions are:

- How long should I reasonably have to wait to be given an approximate build or delivery date?
- At what point could I reasonably say "Stuff it, the deal's off"? And if I do so, is there any risk to losing my deposit?
- Could they raise the price of the new car in the months ahead and charge me more £££ come delivery time?

Finally, they won't give me a trade-in value for my S60 because obviously the value will decline in the months ahead. But how long should I wait for a price from them?

Basically I'm worried that I have absolutely no idea how much this car will end up costing me right now!!

Advice welcome. Thanks, Nick. Read more

Well, it's a brand new niche model that was launched to all markets around the world simultaneously, so I was expecting a 3-4 month wait. Six months is a bit too long to have to wait, but then again I can get my money's worth out of the 400 quid I've recently spent on my current car (service and 2 front tyres)!

I guess the supplier is in the driving seat, so to speak, with limited supply and a queue of customers. Needless to say I didn't get a discount either..!

Question is - how long should I have to wait before they can at least give me a delivery date?

There have been 'roadworks' at this junction, where the M6 southbound, joins the M62 Eastbound, for six weeks or so until recently.

All that appears to have changed is that whereas the sliproad was two lanes for all of its length, new markings have been added to reduced it to a single lane before it joins the M62

Sursprise, surprise, it doesn't seem to have made any difference whatsoever. What was the point ?

I set off at 6.30am to try to avoid the traffic. Mostly I still catch quite a bit of traffic around the junction borasport refers to.

I ain't setting off any earlier than that.

We are travelling to SW France near Bordeaux (Vielle St Girons) and different route planners (Tom Tom 700, RAC website, Via Michelin etc) give us conflicting route advice. I think TT routes via the outskirts of Paris, which I have been advised is not good...

Anyone have any advice on which seems the best software/website to use? We are travelling via Eurotunnel.

When the Gendarmes have a mobile speed trap, a car will usually give you a very quick flash of the lights. You will hardly know you have seen it, but slow down!

I am about to change car from my second Seat Alhambra 20VT, both of which have been excellent for over 100,000 miles apiece. Choice is down to Honda Accord Tourer or Volvo V50, with the Honda FRV as an outsider. I often have 5 people on board and still do trips to college/university, so space is required. Test drives have confirmed the great quality of the Honda diesel, but any thoughts or comments would be welcomed! Read more

Have you looked at the Volvo V70 instead of the V50? It's a lot bigger and is available with large discounts - typically £4000 off is what I've seen advertised....

Quick question for the Geordies in here.

When I was last in Newcastle (April 05) the High Level Bridge was closed to vehicles due refurbishement. Is it now open again?

IIRC hotel staff were uncertain as to whether the plans were to reduce it to pedestrian/PSV use only Read more

bazza1603

Hi,

When it reopens it will be a single direction bus only bridge. The bridge has already seen the rail track reduced to one track.

Newcastle is in a mess, as the Quayside is also closed due to a fire in the old warehouse next to the Copthorne Hotel.

Best Regards

A powerful new Ford V8 diesel with more than 270bhp is on the way for a range of marques, including Jaguar and Land Rover.

The 3.6-litre engine began production this week at Ford's Dagenham plant and will be fitted to an extended family of cars.

As well as powering some top-end Fords, the engine will slot models built by other Ford-owned brands. Expect it to be available in the Jaguar S-type and XJ, Land Rover Discovery, Range Rover and Range Rover Sport by the end of the year.

I would put my money on Ford 6.0 litre V8 outlasting VW's 5.0 litre V10, though I doubt any VW V10 buyers (Phaetons and Toerags) will be putting the sort of mileage and work load on them to ever find out.
