Possible rear shoes are out of adjustment,do a simple check hold foot on brake pedal hard, then pull up handbrake,if pedal drops then brake shoes need adjusting

Witnessed what appeared to be a police chase on the M8 today. Two marked Volvo Estates with lights blazing chasing an unmarked Sierra or Mondeo I think. OK it wasn't at peak hours (11am) but road still busy.

My "Insider" later told me that it was actually a police training exercise.

Now when I originally saw it, I was thinking to myself, maybe if I was driving an HGV or something and saw this happening, I would maybe use my vehicle to block the car or even barge it off the road to do my bit for the police!

Wonder if these training exercises have ever been brought to a halt by something like this? OK, I suppose that even the lead car was "training" in that driver having to look out for things like vehicles pulling out, but, stilll the same, it could have ended up with very bad consequences if any members of the public had decided to help out!

Suppose that backs up the fact that it was a training exercise then! I believe when I saw it (Eastbound at Livingston) this was it on the way back as it had previously travelled westbound at approx 10.30!

My wife contacted a Motor factor for a Cambelt for her Pug 1.1 on a 51 plate. They asked if she want the Belt only or the kit aswell.

What does the kit consist of and is it necessary to use it. I have the info ect. of how to tension the belt.

Like I said, they are only recommended retail prices. As to why one is dearer than the other, who knows? The motor trade is full of price issues like this.

I've read the CBCB for these models plus the links provided but does anyone on here have experience of owning one of these cars? I've never driven a Lotus, are they really that good? And that unreliable? They look like real bargains for use a pleasure car with the occasional track day. Read more

If you purchase the Elise at the 'right' time of year, depreciation on an older model should be minimal. If required,I can supply the insurer's details, which were very reasonable.
Incidentally, my Mk1 Golf Gti was only 1600cc if memory serves me correctly...available in red, black or white...mine was a metallic mint green purchased from a military chappie at short notice who had to return to his unit of BAOR at short notice, and it was RHD.

Afternoon all,

Last night (as some of you will know) I arranged to hire a box van for this Saturday. I won't name the company I've used as I'm a little wary of falling foul of the name and shame rules.

Anyway, I'm worried about how this is all working out to be honest. The truck was supposed to be delivered at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning. In actual fact it, it's just been delivered now. The two drivers have parked it in my flat car park, reversing it rather hard into a hedge to try and make it fit, have given me the keys and left. I have no paperwork of any sort, and although I have rung their office and had confirmed that my rental doesn't start until Saturday morning in the period between the delivery drivers ringing and them actually getting here, I'm feeling rather exposed.

The truck itself is a T reg, and is really pretty battered. I'm not that bothered as long as it is covered by breakdown insurance, but I am concerned that I have got no proof other than the photographs that I have just gone and taken, that it was delivered in this state.

I just sent an e-mail to the head office of the company asking for confirmation of the rental dates, for paperwork, for confirmation that my photos of the damage will indemnify me against that, for indemnification against anyone claiming against me for the hedge (especially as I can't move the truck as I'm not insured until Saturday), and for clarification on the arrangement for collection. At the moment I've been asked to just leave the keys inside one of the wheels. Frankly that makes me nervous, as what happens if the truck gets stolen?

All in all, I'm a bit worried. It seems like this could go wrong in all sorts of ways. Any thoughts from anyone?

Cheers for all the advice guys, all worth looking at. I
have to say the nearside front tyre hasn't got too long
to live by the looks of it. Is it 1.6 mm
for this sort of vehicle?
Gord.

Nope, tyre depth on vehicles over 3.5t are 1mm.

Some of the earlier 6,sportier versions, were run as National Crime Squad vehicles (standard colour, no exterior Blues n 2's) & were de-fleeted at 2-3 years old.

Not sure if GM Police run them - but they will be an excellent Q car & not over expensive when they are sold on.

Don't see any Civics on their fleets though.

Just thought I'd share a bit of good fortune with you people.
Last week, took the car up the major route 450kms or so, and back the next day.
Noticed on the way back a bit of a growl from the back box, and it has got progressively worse this apst week.
This morning, sounded like a tractor, so, with the long weekend approaching, took it into my local silencer fitters.
yep - BIG hole in the top, unfixable.
So they quote me R330* for a new one (was R290 in Nov 2004, with 1-yr guarantee).
Off you go, say I, biting the bullet a touch...
Next thing, they wander over, sorry, have NO mild steel ones in stock (Though the 'puter says they do!) and would I accept a stainless one for a mere R50 more?
Excuse me while I bite your hand off!
So I've now got a stainless back box with a FIVE year guarantee (normal prioce over R600), they checked out the rest of the system for me, and proclaimed it in good whack...
Happy motoeing, until the next thing goes wrong!

(one pound = R10.50. BUT beer costs R10 a bottle, and fags are R15 a pack. All relative.)

Change the air filter, throw in a bottle of valv-eez, and take it for a hi-rev run of about 100 miles.

Forum MOT dates

How far in advance can you get your MOT Test done and still have it as valid 12 months from the date it is currently due?

Situation is that my car is due an MOT on 6th June, I am told that you can usually get the MOT done earlier in the month and have it post dated to be valid from the current date (i.e. have test done on 1st June but MOT certificate valid from 6th) Is this in fact possible or am i getting completely the wrong end of the stick.

thanks
