Our company is looking to lease a pick for maintenance duties and we have found a good quote for an old type Mitsubishi L200 4x4 for less than £150 per month with First Step Leasing. I'll admit its not cutting edge driving but will provide a straightforward vehicle for the job. Has anyone out there used First Step Leasing? Thanks Read more

Apologies if this sounds a really basic. I am, however, very new to this car lark and paranoid that I'm not looking after my car properly! So, all advice is really appreciated.
My Punto has about 11,ooo on it, but is not yet one year old (July). Is this about the right time for its first service (manual is really vague - but see below).
Second, it's an auto. In your experience, are most reasonable garage / service centres happy to do basic maintenance with autoboxes, e.g. replacing ATF (although manual says at 25,000, but HJ says each year??) and checking for basic problems in this area.
Thank you

Hi,
I thing we have looked for too long at cars and have totally confused ourselves.
I am looking for a new car to buy this weekend. I have a budget of £5500 and a p/x worth about £5000 - £5500 if i am lucky. I currently have a smart Peugeot 206 estate 1.4 petrol on a 04 plate.
We have a 1 year old son. We want something reliable, safe and if possible a Diesel. It should be a 55 plate or later and have a decent about of space in the boot. The main problem in the 206 is when we put him in the car seat, its not going to be long before we bang his head. I am also 6 foot 3 so should be able to sit comfortably for long journeys.
We have looked at the following
Nissan Note 1.5 Diesel New. My friend works for them so I get a very nice discount. Wife things its pig ugly, but inside it ticks every box. Maybe, but I am worried about Renaults faults?
Ford Cmax 1.6 Petrol LX New. Wife is not confortable with the size. Maybe
Focus. Doesnot offer anything over the 206 for us.
Regards
Barry
Astra 1.3 estate. Too Big length wise. Wife doesnot like it.
Fiat Idea. Wouldnot every have another fiat.
Renault Senic and Modus. I live to far from the dealers
Vauxhall Meriva. Big Blind spot.
New Look Ford Fusion? 1.4 diesel too slow, 1.6 diesel too expensive therefore leaves us looking at petrols. Would anyone recommend one? Read more
Corolla Verso?
Hi,
Does anybody have experience of these cars? I'm thinking of getting one (probably the 1.6 model, maybe 1.3), and wondered what economy, comfort, handling, performance etc is like (not much in the CBCB).
I've taken reliability for granted as I've had a Celica for 3 years, but fancy a change, so are Mistubishi in the same league as Toyota?
Thanks. Read more
Check out the boot before you buy. I seem to remember that it was very shallow.
Hi All,
The new jobs going good, and the Accord (finally delivered on 3rd March) has done 8k already...
Been to some places recently that I've never seen before in my life (central Wigan's one to be reckoned with!) and I've been seriously thinking bout getting a Satnav gadget to get me around with a little less stress.
I had my Origin B2 rigged up in my old Passat, and found it really useful. Havent bothered so far in the new car, but have found myself getting flustered in strange surroundings, trying to read a map, check speed limits and having the phone ringing every 30 seconds (who'd be a salesman eh?)
So, units in the shortlist are:
* New Snooper INDAGO - looks amazing - anyone tried one?
* AA Navigator - had an email from the email offering the unit at £279, including free subs to speedcare and traffic updates...seems too good to be true?
*Road Angel Navigator - loved this when I first saw it, but a quick scan through Google shows some very negative reviews.
Thought I'd get away with buying a basic tomtom, but the more I look the more I fancy one of these. I really need it to go in a shirt pocket or briefcase to stop it being nicked...rules out the tomtom because of the awkward shape.
Also fancy the camera detectot side of things too....
Essentially, I dont mind spending a bit extra to get it right first time.
You thoughts please?!
Cheers!

Its actually very good to turn it on during meetings (as I have)
The phrase "You have reached your destination" ringing out during an overlong presentation really hits the mark.

A very good friend of mine, "One eyed Mick" was actually employed as a truck driver.
As his name indicates, he had but one eye, with which, it was reckoned, he saw more than most people see with two.
Is it legal to cross into a hatched area on the road to overtake a very slow vehicle (eg tractors etc.) The area I'm thinking of is bordered by broken white lines, with the arrows in the middle. The hatched area is shortly before the road widens with a waiting area for traffic turning. Read more
But the motorway ones are solid, the others being discussed aren't.
Have installed cruise stalk, but not sure how to initiate the cruise control program using tech2. managed to find the programming option, tech2 seems to do all the right things and reports that cruise has been programmed. when we go back to check, it says that it isn't programmed after all... I know of someone with the same vehicle and similar build date who got his dealer to do it FOC, but i doubt i would be that lucky, anyways my local dealership is pretty vague about anything other than normal service routines!. It should just be plug and play (plus initiate software), so where am i going wrong with this one?? Read more
Although all the Sept 2000 -on petrol Astras are throttle by wire, not all of these Astras had the wiring back from the stalk to the ECU, but if you already have the clutch switch you should be in with a chance.
Pre Sept 2000 Astras have the "old-fashioned" cruise control with an electric motor and second throotle cable, when fitted as part of the "Technical Pack" which also included the trip computer.

Well lease papers have come through and yes its for a 4Work 4X4 double cab. Delivery next week apparently. Have to say a very efficient company thus far to deal with. Of course if they want to give us a spec'd up warrior or trojan instead at the same money ...
