Other than this one - what other motoring web-sites do people generally enjoy viewing ?

Any of the odd ones linked from here. Dutch number plate enthusiasts site, for instance - never thought something so tedious could have me hooked for so long ( www.dna.nl/).
Another one spings to mind from some years back, a site completely dedicated to Invalid carriages - of no interest to me whatsoever, well sort of... but at least you know the information's out there.
Not necessarily car related but HowStuffWorks is good, and also Money Saving Expert.

Apart from HJ's website and some of the computer related sites, I spend quite some time on the enormously compulsive Google Earth program...:-)

About an hour ago I zoomed in from outer space into the UK, had a look at Heathrow airport and noticed two planes apparently travelling towards each other.

Closer inspection revealed they appeared to be parked waiting to take off; even closer observation revealed that the larger aircraft was one owned by Air Canada. Awesome program.

Am I missing something? Your description of activity at Heathrow seems to imply that you watched it happening *live*...if only! Surely what you describe was in fact an aerial view which could have been taken from space months ago?

A site which appeared to offer live activity, in fact was another disappointment: www.fboweb.com/antest/ge/intro.aspx ....but perhaps I am not doing the right thing or am expecting too much.

One can home-in on Silverstone, Donington etc (motoring connection) but not *as it is happening*.

>>Surely what you describe was in fact an aerial view which could have been taken from space months ago?>>

I'm absolutely and perfectly aware of that - in fact the aerial view of Heathrow could have been taken two, three or more years ago.

In fact where I live a new £6m bridge was opened about 18 months ago.

Google Earth shows the original bridge apparently still in use...:-)

The link given in my post above takes one to a facility which says:

Be sure to zoom in towards
each field and tilt the camera up from the runways to watch them land!

Blowed if I have achieved *that*...all I get is tiny outlines of aircraft from above which all look identical.

If you want to see what a Moscow area traffic jam looks like, use Google Earth to go from the centre of the capital towards Sheremetyevo Airport to the north.

Just below Himki you will see a road bridge and, if you have Places etc enabled, a traffic jam is listed; in fact there are a number of them including at what appears to be a huge motorway junction to the north. It all makes the M25 look free flowing...:-)

I posted my bit before I read this.
Yes obviously at least two years ago re LHR as it shows operational Concordes.
In fact where I live.......

Shows our old cars and my neighbours car but they moved away over two years ago.

Some ovrerlays of detail are certainly taken at different times.
An area of Maine USA I looked at shows brown coloured detail but the rest of the state is green so some lakes are half white and half blue. I.E. detail in winter and the rest in summer.

Not surprising. It's a means of tracking aircraft movements.

Just as you would log onto, say ParcelForce or DHL's websites to track the progress of your parcels...

If you look at the western end of the northern runway you will see an aicraft close to the threshold, just about to land, landed and rolling along.
I guess it is successive shots as the camera passed over.

Also two Concordes are on Terminal 4 and another being towed at the far eastern end of BAs hangers.
The funny green painted aircraft nearby is a Fire training mock up.
Hatton Cross mini roundabouts look pretty from the air.
But try navigating the roundabouts at J1 M40 - a slight alignment problem ?!!

Google Earth is indeed fantastic. The age of the images seems to vary enormously - around Bromley, the images appear to be pretty new as you can see my new garage roof, which was done only six months ago.

Was looking at Southampton with my gf a while back while she still lived there. She was gutted as she couldn't see her beloved Ka parked by her house. Turned out okay though, when we went to look at Town Quay, there it was, parked in her reserved work space as usual.

Freaky. :-)

Returning to motoring....
At the start of the A306 where you exit the A3, all the experimental road markings are clearly visible.
Lots of different ovals etc. some of which IIRC were tests for the dreaded congestion charging.

And you will never see so many telephone boxes, 11/12, out of action on the street as the famous leaning telephone boxes in Kingston that look like a red smile from above.

To answer the original question, I frequent carsurvey.org, find it useful if you want an idea of people's 'real world' experience of a particular car. Google Earth is great though, zoomed in on my parents place, and the car in the drive is one they got rid off a good 5 years ago!

For my way google earth is about 6 years old

Nicoles R5 campus is on the drive, and the MFI/Halfords is being built at Byfleet.
