Aaaarghhh! This is doing my head in, the rear fog light has packed up on my 1994 4Runner, and I can't work out why it isn't working.
The bulb and bulb holder work fine, and I've managed to trace the cable as far as the passenger footwell, and there's continuity between there and the light.
There is power at the switch, when the sidelights are turned on, and the switch appears to work as there is continuity between two of the terminals when it is pushed in.
I've replaced the bulb in the switch, which I think is only for backlighting anyway, and I've had the dials out and replaced the warning light bulb with one that I know to work.
I've swapped the switch with one out of a friend's Hilux, which looked absolutely identical, and that made no difference.
The wire that comes from the fog light is a different colour to the wires that go into the switch, so I assume that there is a relay somewhere in the circuit, but even though I've had most of the dash out I can't find where the wires go as they get bundled into the main harness and don't seem to come out again.
I've checked every fuse under the bonnet and inside the driver's footwell with a meter, and I've pulled out every relay I can find, and put power across them to check they work, and tested them with a meter whilst doing so and they're all fine.
I've had the glove box out and looked for fuses behind there and there weren't any.
I've now run out of ideas.
Is there any thing else I can check? Does anyone know which relay is for the fog light? Every other electrical item on the car works, including all inside and outside lights, the cigar lighter etc so I don't suspect a fuse unless there is one that only does the rear fog light and it's somewhere I haven't looked.

I saw this car for sale on a 'main-dealer' forecourt in Bangor, North Wales (not a Jaguar dealer). I walked round the car and inspected it from the outside; no obvious scratches, tattiness, need of repair that I could see; inside & out.
Is this a record?

I?m about to take a few driving holidays to France and Holland and wondered if it?s still worth applying headlight adjusters?
What are the chances of getting stopped if I just use the load adjuster and set it to the lowest position?
It seems a bit uneconomical to have to apply fresh adjusters to the headlights every time I cross the channel.

MTX75 - Max Torque 345Nm
MMT6 - Max Torque 450Nm
The MMT6 is a much newer box and was designed for high power and high torque applications like the ST220 and Focus ST, as well as the higher power diesels.
On my ST 6th gear gives 80mph at a shade over 2000rpm and definitely improves economy. Trip computer is currently showing 56.8mpg from running up and down the M6 every day.
Hi there,
Our very reliable T reg Mondeo GLX Auto (87,000miles)finally seems to have expired with a combination of some of the "usual" Mondeo problems. It expired on the M25 on Friday with overheating - no water at all left and engine died.
Daughter who was driving insists that she had no warning but engine still turns over, cambelt (done 37,000 miles) seems Ok as camshafts turn, along with auxillary drive belt too. Clearly water containing antifreeze has been sprayed over the bottom of the righthand end of the engine/driving belt.
However engine shows no sign of life at all, with starter making an unusual noise and seeming to turn OK but slowly and engione is not seized. (No battery issues as all electrics operate OK) Starter was OK previously.
There is no water in oil apparent and even without water in block or with blown head gasket it should show some sign of life.
Does the Mondeo have some kind of temperature sensor or something in ECC that would prevent a re-start? I am aware that water leaks, pumps and starters are all known problems but in combination ???
Has any one any useful suggestions to steer me in a direction? I will start by sorting out leak with new water pump, hoses etc but after that ???
Hopefully someone can help from their experiences. Read more
there is a coolant pipe that runs under the engine(metal)that corrodes thru and costs about £25 i did 1 the other week they are common about an hour to fit,if i were you i would refill vehicle with water and check oil level then run it and see what happens if it o.k then drain water and refill with correct amount antifreeze its process of elimination try not to spill any water when filling system then leaks will be more apparant......(run till fan comes in)
I have had a VW Passat 1.9 TDi for about 6 weeks - started losing power when trying to accelerate. Even dropping down the gears does not help, just gets slower and slower almost grinding to a halt. Fitted new air temp valve and cleaned filter and ran OK for 6 days then started again. Noticed it is due a service anytime, do you think this could be the problem or something more drastic? Thanks. Not sure about the passat, but on the Audi (same engine) they changed the maf design in 1997/8. The early ones (pierburg?) are far more reliable than the later (bosch) ones. It's the bosch ones that people are usually talking about when they suggest maf failure for this problem. the tdi link above is a good one.
A friend of mines sister had a bad car accident on friday evening, she is only been driving for about 3 months and she missed a red light. She was hit on front corner of passenger side of the car, it is possibly a write off, as police are involved what is the worst she could be looking at apart from a huge increase in insurance, I'd imagine she could get 3 points for driving without due care could it be worse?

Should have added...
Has she been interviewed or made a statement (formally not just a friendly chat) ?
Has she been reported ?
No need to answer here.
The process then is that the Police will make an initial decision to proceed against any number of offences, CPS may have an input. If she has been interviewed without a brief it's not the end of the world. If she gets a summons she can get a solicitor at that point. It's almost impossible to forecast a punishment (if any) there are too many variables, ot least any mitigation she may want to put forward.
One of the instrument bulbs has blown on my 2001 406.
Before I spend (and possiby waste!) lots of time figuring out how to rempve the display assembly (the speedo / tacho / fuel level etc.) to get at them, anytone out there know the procedure? Read more
Remove the screws in the top "arch" of the instrument pod surround. There may be screws at bottom part above steering column shroud. Now for the tricky bit;you will need a broad blade tool (trim tool) to prise away the plastic fascia complete with the air vents .(centre & right). If the panel has not been out before, then they are usually a tight fit.If you are lucky it will come out in 1 piece if not,the air vents will self destruct ,so get ready with the glue gun!Once this panel is removed ,the instrument pod is secured with screws to the dash & is easily removed for access to the bulbs.Once out, I would suggest change all the illumination bulbs ;I think there are at least 8 .

Values have been hit by the new XK and will probably get worse yet, despite the fact it's a beautiful car, it's quite common.
Ploughing a similar furrow is the Aston DB7/DB9, but DB7s are staying quite firm , suggesting the AM brand is on the up.
