Bluefin from Superchips is a good solution - list price is £500 but if hunt around owners clubs for a group buy you can knock a bit off that.

Don't bother with a "tuning box" - they just ramp up the fuel pressure indiscriminately and strain the injectors and other fuel system components.

On the 2.0 TDCi you have to watch the clutch and flywheel which aren't really up to big power/torque increases, and the 5 speed gearbox is pushing close to its rated torque limit as standard. The 6 speed box is well inside its limits and will be no problem, the 6 speed cars also have a revised flywheel but it's still a weak area.

The 2.2 engine uses a much stronger Luk clutch and flywheel, i'm not sure if these parts would go on a 2.0 but the engine block is essentially the same bar being bored out and the MMT6 transmission is much the same as well so it should be possible.

I never bothered getting my 2.0 TDCi done due to the above, and the fact that it had no traction control and would spin the wheels all to easy as standard in the wet.

Agree re Bluefin/Superchips though I have been advised to the contrary re the five speed box, i.e. that it can easily take a lot more torque, after all the reason for the 6 speed box is really marketing and the ability to acheive one bracket lower on BiK emmisions, however in real world driving a 5 speed 130 is just as economical and feels much more lively due to the 6 speed's top ratio being too high thus requiring a change down if, for instance, m/way traffic slows below 60 to 65. The 6 speed really only comes into it's own on continental hauls where it is doing under 3000 revs cruising at 100mph where as the 5 speed is doing about 300/400 revs more.

VW lowered the torque output of 5 speed Passat TDi 130s, relative to the 6 speed, due to gearbox concerns which gives rise to the belief in some quarters that a 6 speed box is inherently stronger. However this is not the case and it was very much a VW specific issue.

I meant to say that TDCi 130s and X-Types with the same engine regularly dyno ay around 148 bhp as standard so, for instance, if 155 is claimed make sure you are getting a 25 bhp increase and not just 7 bhp.

However again I would go Bluefin for the reasons Quinny100 gave.

MTX75 - Max Torque 345Nm
MMT6 - Max Torque 450Nm

The MMT6 is a much newer box and was designed for high power and high torque applications like the ST220 and Focus ST, as well as the higher power diesels.

On my ST 6th gear gives 80mph at a shade over 2000rpm and definitely improves economy. Trip computer is currently showing 56.8mpg from running up and down the M6 every day.
