Can anyone recommend a good one? I was looking at Warranty Works website - does anyone know anything about them?

Cheers,

Aprilia & rip - That is a very sensible suggestion, but I worry that it requires some sort of self control not to touch the money - which I don't have!

Just heard on the radio (I'll caveat that by saying it
was Radio 1 and sometimes the Sun is in depth compared
to Radio 1's news output) that the local council's idea for
the factory site is a casino. And it's alright everyone, all
2000 odd of you, we know that you're skilled workers, but
you can retrain to work at the casino.
So that's alright then.

Very unlikely that they'll want ex-car workers to work in a casino. In fact its unlikely casino owners will even want natives - they'll bring in East Europeans who can be paid less and effectively have no employment rights.

From our local newspapers...
SEVENTY-SIX Eastern Cape pilgrims were saved from a dangerous situation that could have led to a tragedy yesterday when the Ekurhuleni Metro Police caught their bus driver doing 153km an hour on the N3 outside Johannesburg.

The bus driver had been taking 65 adults and 11 children back to the Eastern Cape after a religious pilgrimage to Moria in Limpopo.

The police action took place as the national death toll went up to 101 ? compared with 241 for the five-day break last year.

When officials finally stopped the fully-laden bus and arrested the driver, they found it had, among other things, defective brakes and a bent chassis and axle.

And SA drivers are - in general
with some exceptions - not noted for their high levels of
skills, competence or adherence to rules.

More than half of South African drivers either have:
1) NO license
2) A fraudulently issued one
3) a 'bought' one.
Also, there is no compulsory insurance.

£11.75 is not a fortune when comparing with what some dealers charge.

Bite the bullet.

Oh and just to add to my comment above - I had a CRV once and it was great - but HJ reckons that if you do need some off road capability with good on road manners then buy an X-trail

A few weeks back I spilled 1/4 pint of milk on my new Golf's carpet. It immediately soaked in and no amount of cleaning can remove the smell of sour milk.
Short of changing the carpet I don't know what to do.

Im thinking of buying the mark 2 facelifted Clio. Just thought id put something out on here to see what people think of it.

What do people think of an 03 1.4 for about £5500.

HJ said the chasis was old but it ticks all the boxes for me.

Wife has a 98 Clio 1.6 so also clearly pre facelift, we have had it since 2001 when it had only done 4k miles, now 39k, yes the sunroof rattles when open, it had a power steering fluid leak from a pressure switch, a new back box a couple of years ago and a new battery a few weeks ago. I detect a slight blowing from somewhere near the front of the exhaust which will need attending to prior to the next MOT. The cambelt was done at 5 years by Renault Minute, 200 quid inc oil and filter.

All in all a great car, fun to drive and gutsy performance.

Does anyone know of a stash of spares for the Pug 505? We're tried all the usual on line places, local scrappies etc etc, but are struggling to get our mitts on a nsf suspension leg.

Does anyone have any bright ideas (or even better a 505 they are breaking!)?

Cheers,

Son put his car in for a first 16,000 mile service - discussed previously on phone with garage and left his car with the written instruction for service.

In the afternoon they phoned - car was ready and how would he pay? Then the request for £398 - where did that come from? £295 for a service and we changed the brake fluid as it is nearly 2 years old.

At this my son suggested that they think again - they had done work which was not required for the service and not requested on his order (slip of paper with name, reg and service required @ £295). The reply was that you will need to brake fluid changed in 5 months time and it will cost you more - my son's reply is it would if I got you to do it but less if the man in the village does it.

Lots of bluster, mild panic, I will speak to the service manager, I'll phone you back........... In the end after spinning it out for 3 calls - my son gave in and offered to pay for the brake fluid as a gesture of goodwill but not the time @ £85 / hour they asked for. At this the service manager gave in and gave the brake fluid for free, as a gesture of goodwill.

I surmise that the thought of a customer who spent £22,000 18 mths ago was worth more than an argument over the rights & wrongs of a brake fluid change.

I am sure this will not be the first (or last) customer in the week with an unexpected bill but how many would have argued and how many would just have paid on the company credit card.

The difference is, I think, that my son's credit card is for his own company and therefore "real money" and not just a line on expenses.

Like I've posted many times before, all these guys will be on some kind of bonus/target scheme. Nine times out of ten they will get away with this sort of thing and increase their (and the dealer) income.

I have broken the mounting clip/fixing for a mk4 fiesta n/s door mirror. The mirror has a colour coded 'shell' which is undamaged.

I have seen plain black mirrors for a reasonable price on e-bay and I am wondering if anyone can give me a few tips on changing the outer shells over so that a plain black mirror can be changed to match the coloured one the car already has.

Surely this is possible?

Thanks. Read more
