Last night at around 5pm my daughter's car was hit by another car which drove quickly away from the scene.

Firstly, Tesco insurance were brilliant and one phone call seems to have sorted out the repair process. The police however were less than interested, gave us an incident number and declared the matter closed. That was after asking us to drive 15 miles in an unroadworthy car to report it officially. They did however admit, over the phone, that they could trace the vehicle "if for example it was serious and someone had been murdered".

If anyone in Cheshire knows of or sees a beige (I have the paint samples)oldish Porsche with JM in a personal plate and front bodywork damage please could they let me know. Last seen heading south on A50 between Mere and Knutsford after hitting a blue Honda Civic.

I feel a little unhappy about having to pay the insurance excess as well as the distress caused to my daughter together with the criminal escaping justice. Does anyone know of a way of proceeding that might either find the culprit or mitigate the loss?

As a final rant, if people can behave like this and get away with it no wonder the crime rate is on the increase!

Any information or advice received with thanks.

He's more likely to get a positive response from the local Divisional Commander rather than one of the Chiefs. In these days of BCUs things are quicker sorted in-house locally than wrtiting to Chief Constables who rarely read letters/e-mails - they have staff that do that. The local boss will want to stop it going to HQ. I do it for living !

Question RAV-4 towbar
Bogwheeler

Does anyone out there have experience of fitting and wiring a towbar to a Toyota RAV-4? I've always done this job myself up to now but I fear the RAV-4 has more comlicated electrics than I am used to. Toyota can supply a wiring kit but say it's scheduled as a four hour job and quote £800+ Read more

Try TOWSURE for bar and kit.

I have a 125 honda scooter (automatic).

It has been serviced since new (plugs and oil always changed frequently).

It seems to start first time in all weathers if it is used daily, which I use to work. There are no obvious signs of engine wear or anything like that.

However, if I leave it for a few days, it takes a few attempts to get it started.

Is this what is known as flooding? How can I improve the situation?

Thanks in advance for all your advice!

Start it up every two days, even if you are not using it. End of problem.

So.....

I ordered an IS250 via my company's leasing firm on December 20th.

I didn't hear anything for a couple of months so I chased in late Feb and was told that I'd get my car in late April.

As my diary is filling up for this month, I asked for a delivery date. The leasing firm chased the dealer (and Lexus UK) and apprently Lexus previously provided "misleading information" about progress of vehicles at the factory.

Latest date provided is a 25th May delivery to the dealer (not my house). Given the need to prepare the car and add some dealer fit extras, I won't be getting it until June although there was a vague mention of a courtesy car.

My experience is not unique, several people on the Owners' Club site have also had problems.

What's going on? Lexus's brand is based on customer service. How long will that last if they treat people like this? All my friends know how put out I am. Read more

There are reports here in Germany of quality problems regarding the electronics in the IS250, mainly due to bugs in the infotainment system. Maybe the production delay is related to Lexus trying to sort out these problems.

Alessandro

Hello everyone,

I find myself with a little problem. Here's the issue's background:

I am an italian citizen (born and raised)
I spent 6 years in the USA for educational purposes, from August 1999 to May 2005.
I got my driving licence in the USA in June 2000.
I left the USA in May, went to Italy for the summer, and since September 2006 I am studying in the UK.
My USA licence expired in Feburary 2005, but I can still renew it if I fly back to the US.

My question is.....can I, as an italian citizen, exchange my US licence for a UK licence? If that is possible, can I then sub sequentially get an international driving licence or exchange my UK licence for an Austrian licence (just got a job offer from Austria but I need a licence)?

Also (in the event that I can exchange my USA licence for a UK license), do any of you know what it the timeframe for exchanging a USA licence with a UK license?

My licence is clean, never even had a speeding ticket.

Thank you in advance for any help on this matter.. Read more

At the moment from what I can see from your post you do not seem to have a current valid Licence of any description.

As a visitor/new resident to UK you are allowed to drive for 12 months on a domestic Licence (Italy) which you do not have.

As far as I can see a USA Licence (current) is not one that can be exchanged for a UK Licence.

The ultimate authority for UK Licence is the Driver Vehicle Licensing Authority whioch has its own site full of useful information.

Suggest you have words with them to see if there is a way around the prohibition.

Tuesday night's journey up the A1 was a classic. When I got a little way (northbound) up the motorway section which stretches from Alconbury to Peterborough the overhead gantry signs were showing "Congestion ahead". The time was 9:30 p.m. A bit further on they indicated a 50, then 40 mph speed limit. Then it was "Workforce in road". Then there was a sign the right-hand lane was closed. The it said "End". It's not the first time this sort of thing has happened.

What was actually happening on the road? Congestion? No. Roadworks? No. Any clue these might have happened recently? No. Any reasons for speed restrictions? No. Any reason for lane closure? No.

There was very little traffic, most of which completely ignored the signs. Can you blame them? Read more

Hi all,

thinking of booking a week over in the continent, taking a short driving holiday so taking the car.

What's the cheapest way to get from Blighty to Euroland? I really like the tunnel, don't know much about deals on ferries but am very flexible if it'll save me £££s

And what about booking two single journeys at special day rates rather than being fleeced for a week long booking? What are the pitfalls of this?

Thanks

SeaFrance are certainly keen for business. Booked a day trip for the car, but returning with a shed-on-wheels (to sell, not keep..) and it's £47.50 all in.

I know Ryton was originally a Rootes Group factory, but does anyone know when it was built? Read more

L'escargot

Presumably it is what was called as a 'shadow factory'? Several
car manufacturers moved into them post-war, possibly including Rover and Daimler
IIRC. I remember Ryton-on-Dunsmore used to be given as the address
for Humber - remember them?

I think the name Humber was used for the administration centre and engine/gearbox production facilities at (would you believe it!) Humber Road. The heading on the letter offering me a job at Ryton was Singer Cars Ltd.
