Hello everyone,
I find myself with a little problem. Here's the issue's background:
I am an italian citizen (born and raised)
I spent 6 years in the USA for educational purposes, from August 1999 to May 2005.
I got my driving licence in the USA in June 2000.
I left the USA in May, went to Italy for the summer, and since September 2006 I am studying in the UK.
My USA licence expired in Feburary 2005, but I can still renew it if I fly back to the US.
My question is.....can I, as an italian citizen, exchange my US licence for a UK licence? If that is possible, can I then sub sequentially get an international driving licence or exchange my UK licence for an Austrian licence (just got a job offer from Austria but I need a licence)?
Also (in the event that I can exchange my USA licence for a UK license), do any of you know what it the timeframe for exchanging a USA licence with a UK license?
My licence is clean, never even had a speeding ticket.
Thank you in advance for any help on this matter..

At the moment from what I can see from your post you do not seem to have a current valid Licence of any description.
As a visitor/new resident to UK you are allowed to drive for 12 months on a domestic Licence (Italy) which you do not have.
As far as I can see a USA Licence (current) is not one that can be exchanged for a UK Licence.
The ultimate authority for UK Licence is the Driver Vehicle Licensing Authority whioch has its own site full of useful information.

Suggest you have words with them to see if there is a way around the prohibition.
