I have had a small garage fit a new GM 4L30E (recon) automatic gearbox to my Omega, but there is now no drive.
I got the gearbox from a working low mileage late model, and then replaced lots of seals in it, some I did myself, and some an automatic specialist did. It has then been in dry storage for 6 months.
We are wondering if it was because I emptied the fluid out of the torque convertor before, will this cause the problem, by there being no fluid being pumped, or should it fill when the fluid is put in?
Does the torque converter pump the fluid round or a seperate pump.
We have filled it to the level drain hole with the engine running etc...
Thanks for any advice. Read more
If the torque converter is bone dry, will the pumps be rotating, or will just the donut part of the TC be spinning and not transfering drive to the inside part, and thus the splined shaft and gearbox/pumps?

hmmm the clutch pedal on my '93 214 Si is higher than the brake pedal - just thought it was a 'feature' of the car but if it can be adjusted let me know how too please.

IMO a late E39 saloon in "sport" guise is still one
of the best looking cars on the road
I could not possibly agree more with you :)
I tried to lock the car via fob and it would not lock. Now i notice that imobilizer light flashes very quickly all the time, if i keep the locking/unlocking button pressed in the car it stops for a while. I tried batteries in the fob so its nothing to do with the key fob batteries, i even tried a new key fob receicer unit. 1995 renault megane RT 1.9d Read more
Peugeot are closing shop, rumour on the street in Germany is that Renault and BMW are looking for a place to relocate Nissan and Mini on mainland Europe ,Ford are saying if Land Rover does not improve its curtains and Jaguar are losing money hand over fist. The UK government tried to keep the PSA closure a secret till after the local elections but it was released in both the French and German press.Do you think we will be making cars in ten years I wonder. Bristol is still british owned isnt it? Was in an article a few months ago.
I have very great respect for the BRs who regularly advise on traffic law. I was once told to remove discs from my windscreen to get the car through the MOT. The tester said that only certain discs could be displayed. Can anyone refer me to the clause ? My employer wants me to put the company permit on the windscreen, and I want to put it on the rear sidescreen where it won't restrict vision. Read more
Worry beads? St Christopher medal? Statue of some religious icon with LED eyes glued to the top of the facia?
I'm not too hot on modern ads, I have to admit I prefer the "new improved wotsits washes whiter" approach, then I know what they're trying sell me, what it does and they're telling fibs. So help me out. Do I have to test a Vauxhall for 3 days or go to jail?

I have a small problem with my VW Passat. Some of the 'soft feel' plastic trim on the driver's door is starting to break up (peel off). The car is less than three years old and still under VW warranty. However VW are saying that this is wear and tear and so not covered. The car has had a gentle life and has not yet done 36000 miles. Any comments on how I can pursue this. To replace the piece of trim from my own pocket will be very expensive. Read more
Just re read you original post and you don't mention the spec of your Passat so I must have got you confused with another thread!

Might be worth checking the coolant temp sensor's resistance; an unstable reading can upset the ECU and give this fault too.

HP often rebrands many other manufacturers products under its own name - some of the recent Medion PDAs from Aldi have been from the same manufacturer.
