Mitsubisi Colt (1992-1996) - Sprice
Hi,

Does anybody have experience of these cars? I'm thinking of getting one (probably the 1.6 model, maybe 1.3), and wondered what economy, comfort, handling, performance etc is like (not much in the CBCB).

I've taken reliability for granted as I've had a Celica for 3 years, but fancy a change, so are Mistubishi in the same league as Toyota?

Thanks.

According to the reliability index on this site - Mitsibushi and Toyota scores are almost identical.

you havnt mentioned the most important thing sprice me lad ;)

parts.............prices..........availability..........and from where

i would check this out first as to be fair to the car you are looking at it is at least 10 years old and not the most popular kid on the block in those days, so availability of anything more than filters and pads may?make you look at a more bog standard motor?

The Officve ran a hack (J plated) Mitsubishi, brilliant car in all respects, difficulty in getting braking components siged its P45.

Yes, old Colt became Proton Compact IIRC.

Mitsubishi are actually something of an 'unsung hero' in terms of reliability. Its a rare thing for any Mitsi to go wrong - in fact I would say they are MORE reliable than Toyota.

Mitsubishi parts availability is generally excellent. My local dealer can get pretty much anything within a day or two. I was most surprised when I needed an obscure piece of trim for a 10-year-old FTO (grey import) and it arrived next day! Their parts prices are not cheap mind you - same league as Toyota, of not a bit more.

The later 'Mirage' was a cracking little performance car - outstanding handling and good performance.

Steer clear of any later Mitsi's with the GDi engine - they coke up and give all manner of problems.

Thanks very much for all the replies- actually, Persona Compacts make excellent buys, and you could buy a much newer model over its equivalent colt, but the insurance is absurdly high on the Proton!

I think I'll go down the Colt route. Ok, thanks Aprilia, I'll avoid any Mitsu with the GDi!

Check out the boot before you buy. I seem to remember that it was very shallow.
