Hi,

About six months ago I had a person drive into the back of my car. Still waiting to resolve this problem now, but I received some great advice on here and thought I would ask again for a new problem that I am having. In the same place as the last accident, a French 40ton lorry rolled into the back of me, and pushed me into the car in front. End result is scratches to the back and front of my car, a small crack in the car in front, and of course, no damage to the truck. I was driving a mazda mx5 at the time.

Now, I called the police, who made sure that we exchanged details and provided a translator since the truck driver couldn't speak english. The truck driver produced a form (constat d'amiable accident or something) in french which he wrote all his details on, and asked me to write mine. I did this, and then he asked me to sign it which I did. I then noticed that he had drawn a picture of three boxes, with his truck marked as A. Then, some arrows going past his lorry, and diagonally into mine. I am not sure if he is implying that I overtook him (which I didn't). I am concerned that by signing this form I have just admitted responsibility for the accident. I was stationary when he rolled into me.. hopefully the person I was pushed into will state the same, but I am concerned of this going against me because of the paper that I signed.

Any advice appreciated (other than finding a new route home!)

"a newer car (a Citroen C5) so hopefully I won't ignored in that :)"
And hopefully French truck drivers will treat it with a little more respect!!
Hope you get things sorted out to your satisfaction!

Browsing through car ads for luxury cars, I can't help but notice how so many super expensive cars have had new engines or new gearboxes below 100k miles. What's going on here? Read more

The Toyota MR2 sold surprisingly well (bearing in mind its name) in France.
The old ones are always the best.
Sleep - it´s overrated.

Got a problem with the girlfriends car.

She has a Fiat Cinquecento (sp?) and when on side lights and dipped, there is no difference but when you put them on full, they do change.

The bulbs are about bright as David Beckham anyway, but at least they worked before.

I checked the fuses and all seems fine. Anyone recommend the next step to find out whats wrong / fix the problem???

Thanks

Fillaments looked in tact, but the end of the bulb was looking a bit brown / black!

Does anybody know if MOT failure points are recorded on computer under the new system. If I took my car to another garage would they know about them?

PS While we're on the subject of MOTs does anybody know the maximum number of handbrake clicks before it's considered to have excess movement?

>>'there will be a nominal fee charged for this information'!!

well not mentioned on site as yet,but could possibly be later on?

As for handbrake no mention on minimum travel, but does mention travel exceeding to max which is a failure, under this and rear brakes effective then a pass

My 53 plate 2.5tdi Superb (purchased used from a Skoda dealer)recently showed an airbag fault. The dealer traced it to a fractured pollen filter housing, which had allowed water to penetrate the car over time and had 'wicked' down the loom into the airbag sensor and corroded it. The job was completed under Skoda UK warranty and involved, amongst other jobs, removal of the dashboard.

Got the car back & all appeared OK for a few days. Went out to start it last week and got a noise which sounded like the starter bendix could'nt engage the ring gear. The info screen flashed and flickered and then the car started. There was an immediate smell of burning & within 30 seconds, smoke appeared between the top of the dash and the windscreen. Naturally, I switched it off PDQ and got the extinguisher from the boot, No fire, but obviously, I'm not going to try starting it again!!

Rang AA & got it towed to the dealer who had just fixed the airbag problem. Now I'm being told this is a further warranty fault which will involve removing the dash again and then waiting for the Skoda 'thermal engineer' to inspect the car. I'm told the first fault, the fractured pollen filter housing, is a 'known problem'. Anyone got any comments / news to confirm or deny this?

I need to buy a car for my father in law who is visiting the UK for 3 months. Budget is £1K, needs to be easy to sell on with no hassle (i will be selling), reliability essential.

I am thinking Nissan Almera approx 1998 or Citroen Xsara.

Any thoughts/suggestions welcome. Read more

re polo ----they all have oil in the filter box dont they?
the biggest archiles with these old things is the brakes were abysmal when new with no feel to them and a thinking stopping distance of one good mile, i used to get accused of selling dangerous cars 15 years ago when daddy bought daughter for one and he had a drive and tried stopping the things. (best leave these to memory i believe, sorry mapmaker)

Yesterday morning I saw a Rover 75 heading along our road at about 15 mph with hazards going and with the bonnet up! To see where he was going, the idiot driver was looking through the gap between the body work and the raised bonnet.

Any idea what on earth he was doing? I can only think that the bonnet was stuck open - but this still would n't explain why he would go out onto a busy through road.

Despite a recent service, my petrol Leon 1.6 is misfiring under heavy load.

For example, coming off a roundabout in 3rd or taking a sharp left hand turn on a slight gradient, the engine is missing until reaching 2000 revs.

It hasn't done this before, driving in similar style.

What is the most likely fault? Read more

VW/Seat have reduced the gap on the triple pin plugs from 1.1 mm to 1 mm.

I thought these were pre-set and shouldn't be adjusted? Or is it that they are a newer design and have a smaller gap which was already pre-set?

Hi all,
Just brought a 306 Diesel Turbo 138,000 miles, the gear linkage dropped off today ! Has anyone experienced this potentially embarassing problem ?
Managed to pop it back in, a ball into a cylindrical tube connection, should there be any sort of retaining mechanism ? seems a lot of link bars involved in this mechanism.
Thanks in anticipation of your replys.

This is a well known problem - presumably the link actually fell apart, leaving part on the gearbox? You need to fit a new link - they're not expensive (£15 or so). Can be a bit of a trial getting the joints apart though....!

Is it illogical? It must be Citroen....
