Rover 75 with bonnet up! - Round The Bend
Yesterday morning I saw a Rover 75 heading along our road at about 15 mph with hazards going and with the bonnet up! To see where he was going, the idiot driver was looking through the gap between the body work and the raised bonnet.

Any idea what on earth he was doing? I can only think that the bonnet was stuck open - but this still would n't explain why he would go out onto a busy through road.

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear...

I know a fair number of Rover drivers (the neighbour across the road has a J-reg Rover 400) including some taxi drivers and my daughter had one of the very first 400s, which was built in late 1989/early 1990. It served her well for its three years lease period.

These individuals didn't/don't seem to experience the traumas and setbacks which such comments seem to infer.

Could he have been doing 50 and the bonnet flew open so he was bring the car to a safe halt?
Rover 75 with bonnet up! - Round The Bend
Cheddar, nice idea but the Rover was going uphill at the time so he would have been pushing the accelerator to make progress. Also, the bonnet was propped open exactly as if it had been opened to check the oil or whatever. It was n't a flapper!

More curiously, he was at the beginning of our road which broadens from tight bendy country lanes. I'm pretty sure that this is where he must have come from since there are only about a dozen houses between where I saw him and where the road widens. Glad I don't meet him on the narrower road.

Does the 75 have gas struts?
Rover 75 with bonnet up! - R40
The 75 does have gas struts and does not have any bonnet prop!

Perhaps it had been stolen by a chav who didn't have sufficient intelligence to know how to close it lol :)

Based on oldman's logic, it was probably a garage mechanic road testing the car who couldn't shut the bonnet before he went out...:-)

Obviously stupid but pretty sure he was n't some local chav. Mind you, he looked pretty young for a 75 driver - guess mid forties. No sign of burberry baseball cap etc

Right, bonnet catch fails, bonnet pops up via gas struts, no way of closing it or holding it closed, only around the corner from home, what would you do?

I'd call the AA/RAC. I certainly would n't go out and risk an accident by driving along peering through the bonnet gap. Would you??

I'd like to think that people would have more sense. My children use the pavement along that road.

Driver probably thought it was Easter weekend yesterday rather than next weekend.

Push the bonnet down then seal with copious amounts of gaffer tape.

Ask a nice young policeman to sit on it.
