Statistical outlier

Evening all,

Just wanted to get people's thoughts on whether I might have something I should get a dealer to look at. I drove about 60 miles up to a friend's house in torrential rain earlier. The benefit of this is that my car is now really clean :-). I was there for a couple of hours, but when I left, my car steamed up about two minutes after I had driven away. I actually had to pull over and run the fans at full power for about five minutes before the car cleared again.

What I'm wondering is whether this indicates a fault someone, a leak somewhere in the air con system, or just that because it was 4° C. the air-conditioning pump had turned itself off, with resultant condensation. The car was on auto the whole way there, and was on auto until the point where it steamed up on the way back.

Any ideas from anyone? Should I just ignore it unless it happens again?

Cheers, Gord. Read more

Not that I've noticed. It's only 3 months old, and while I've done 8.5k so far, I'd be quite amazed if it had got clogged that quickly over the winter.

My wipers stopped today in the middle of a downpour.I could hear the motor spinning so it was clearly the linkage.Stripped down what was obvious and found that the rod from the motor had dropped out what looks like a ball and socket joint. It pushed back in but not securely and it all worked ok.Anybody know how to remove the whole of the linkage and is there anything I can do to repair the problem bearing in mind that new parts are unlikely to be found and a scrappers may be as dogy as mine? My dad filled his 2.0 Daewoo Leganza up with BP Ultimate Unleaded as an experiment prior to driving down from Manchester a few days ago. A trip he usually does on 3/4 of a tank this time involved him nearly having to stop at a service station to get more petrol.

He's not impressed, and since this was a good 5p more expensive, the journey cost him a lot more than usual too! Has anyone had a positive experience with "premium" petrol? Read more

Here in Spain we now have availability of Shell VPower diesel. I understand that it is not marketed in the U.K. under that name, if at all. Apparantly it is at least partially composed of synthetic diesel produced from gas rather than crude oil. It is claimed to have a higher percentage of cetanes and to be lower in sulphur.
Is this the same as the Shell "Extra" diesel, which is available in the U.K., or not? Is BP "Ultimate" similar in formulation?
The Shell VPower is priced at a substantial premium compared with their regular product, at about 5 euro cents per litre more.

"Cooking" diesel is hovering around 0.95.5 Euros a litre - about 0.65 GBP equivalent, so we at least have some advantage here!
Oh - our car tax equivalent for the year is + - fifty quid for a 1.9tdi.

All this talk of Sunderland, Cranfield and Japan

According to information easily found on internet, Nissan design has not been exclusively Japanese for some years- the 2002 Primera apparently was designed in Munich, and the 2004 update in Cranfield. Surely with the Renault interest Nissan design will become even more Europe-centric.

Do report it. You can find your local authority's site here:

www.tagish.co.uk/links/

and it may well have a channel dedicated to such reports, just as Herts Highways does. Reports from Jo Public are not ignored and, in the Herts case, are almost always acted upon promptly.

I thought that I was up on the news, but this weekend what's happened to the price of petrol. Nothing on the news, nothing new in Nigeria, or did Uncle Gordon do a dirty in the budget that I missed? Is it just screw the motorist time?

Is a second hand car dealer required by law to have a price on the vehicle he is offering for sale on his pitch, i.e. a car window/roof 'sticker' price?

Question mondeo steering
biff

i have a 1.8 lx mondeo on an 02 plate, when the car is cold the steering makes a clunky sound when turning it lock to lock but is quieter when the car warms up, i can also feel a dull knock on the steering all the time and this seems to be worse when i'm turning a corner thats on a camber(if that makes sense to you). can anyone help with this matter?

i also have a rumbling noise coming from the passenger side rear wheel area, on the service records it says the sub frame bushes were changed 2000 miles ago and i cant feel anything when i try to shake the wheel, again any help would be appreciated.
thanks. Read more

thanks for the help with the steering, i will take it to the dealer and make some inquiries.

concerning the noise on the back wheel, i sat in the back and let the wife drive down the road and it seems to be a lose sounding noise rather than a grinding one. i will ask the dealer to look at that as well, again many thanks chaps.
