I have a Xsara HDI 110 just coming up to 60,000 miles and have been experiencing a problem for the last 3 months 6,000 miles. When accelerating hard car loses power and is not able to exceed 55 mph. If I keep trying to make her go the management light will come on and limp mode activated. Seems to happen in heavy rain but not sure if thats a coincidence.
The car was bought at 40,000 miles 18 months old from a citroen main dealer. I reported the problem when having other work done under warranty, they cleared fault codes but did nothing about prob. Reported again- fault code this time said something about lack of turbo pressure? not sure exactly what was said. Fitted new air mass meter (which was in stock only because I had ordered it) also ordered a citroen kit to re-route the air intake to prevent water access. Kit was fitted about 2 weeks after new meter. 3 days after kit fitment same problem again, trying to push on no-go limp home mode (vvvv scary when trying to pass a lorry in heavy rain)
Any ideas?? could air meter be damaged again (if it ever was in the first place) What else could it be Fuel problem??? I changed the filter shortly after the first incident made no difference, one suggestion has been fuel filter housing faulty.
(Will create a log of all warranty work done along with servicing balls up later).

I own a Citroen Xsara 2.0HDi which is nearly 4 years old and has approx. 36000 miles on the clock. I intend to keep the car for another 2 years or 50,000 miles before I sell it.
I would like to ask the experts 2 questions:-
1. When would you recommend I have the camshaft timing belt changed?
2. Would it be sensible to let my local garage, who service the car, fit the new belt? I ask this because the Haynes Manual states that Citroen recommend an electronic tool be used to tensioning the belt. A tool which my local garage does not have.
Any help would be appreciated. Read more
I use QH belt & tensioner kits, myself.
Can't fault them, on price & quality.

SiL's car has done 32k. She asked a good question today. Is it a belt drive or chain drive and of so when does it need changing. Manual wasn't any help. Had to shrug my shoulders and approach Those With Greater Knowledge. Read more

Official change interval is 100K or 10 years.
For peace of mind though I would change it earlier say at 60K or 5 years max. Haven't, in my circles, heard of any premature failures a la Vauxhall Ecotec though.
Ford do a kit consisting of the belt and tesioner. Part No 1203767 currently retailing at £84.72 inc VAT. Book time on labour is 2.4 hours.

Steve, I don't know if this will help any, but one of my friends who is a Priest ( I know that makes him a man of the cloth but I didn't mean it - honest), had a 306 and the leather in the seat had ripped.
He spoke to one of the undertakers that he deals with regularly and he was able to point him in the direction of a local firm who they used for repairs to their limos all the time.
Has anyone here had any experience with the item mentioned under NEWS on the right of the screen.

My Snooper Neo was very reluctant to lock onto satellites and occassionally took up to about 10 minutes to do it. The SmartNav seems much better.
OK so now we're all experts on how to sift candidates trying to get in at a junction, how has this increased our chances of getting in ourselves?
I was anxious to learn and my reading of the posts suggests I behave as near as possible to a beta minus male hyena, at the same time wearing a blond wig and driving a muddy coloured car a bit older than yours.
Do I get the nod?

Drive a large Red Shed (aka 1990 VW Golf) in the nicer parts of West London....it's amazing how many people don't want their nice shiny cars dinged up!
Oh and being about 6'2'' and 220lbs doesn't hurt as well!

Does anyone know how to confirm whether it is the 110 or the 90 citroen xsara hdi that I'm looking at. It doesn't seem to specify it anywhere on the car, or on the logbook. Read more
The intercooler is another radiator alongside the normal radiator, it is on the passenger side of the car, has a 4 inch pipe going into each end, the intercooler is about 8 inches wide.
The 110 is a lot faster and more flexible than the 90, you won't need to change gear as often.
If you are buying a used car, consider a C5 as well, they are similar prices, but the build quality and interior qualty of the C5 is above the Xsara. I owned a Xsara and loved it though. I love my C5 too.
The Xsara is a good car for chucking around country roads, motoring journalists arent keen on the Xsara, but it remains a good car.

Golf heater matrices are about £32 + VAT from German and Swedish.
Now we know which turbo my car likely has any other ideas about what is causing my problem!!! Going to dealer tomorrow to get new air flow meter fitted. I strongly suspect this will not cure the problem. But difficult to know as problem intermittent.
All help appreciated
