Does anyone know how to confirm whether it is the 110 or the 90 citroen xsara hdi that I'm looking at. It doesn't seem to specify it anywhere on the car, or on the logbook.

The certain way will be from the VIN number, characters 4 to 9. First 3 show manufacturer, next 6 the body style and engine type. Handbook should tell you what they mean, among the technical data.

110 has a big pipe running from the intercooler near the radiator to the turbo over the right side of the engine as you look from front

Post the first 5/6 letters from the VIN and we'll tell ya!

110 goes like a scalded cat, whereas the 90 only goes like a warmed cat...????
Quick look under the bonnet for the intercooler will be the easiest way to tell though.

Is it illogical? It must be Citroen....

The intercooler is another radiator alongside the normal radiator, it is on the passenger side of the car, has a 4 inch pipe going into each end, the intercooler is about 8 inches wide.
The 110 is a lot faster and more flexible than the 90, you won't need to change gear as often.
If you are buying a used car, consider a C5 as well, they are similar prices, but the build quality and interior qualty of the C5 is above the Xsara. I owned a Xsara and loved it though. I love my C5 too.
The Xsara is a good car for chucking around country roads, motoring journalists arent keen on the Xsara, but it remains a good car.
