HELP. I have a 2001 Passat 1.9 TDi.For some reason unknown to me, a noise (another!) has suddenly started. It sound like a ball bearing rolling up and down the car around the centre console region. No idea what it is.I removed the centre console around the handbrake and cannot see anything. When you brake or go down a hill it rolls forward, the opposite if you go up a hill.It isn't a "short" roll either. It is about 2 secs.Anyone got any ideas?. I actually thought I'd cracked it before.I found a ball-bearing (???) in the footwell at the rear in the heater vents under the driver's seat, but this turned out to be a "red-herring" (although I've no idea why THAT was there). Two tyres were slashed on my car on Tuesday night while it was parked in the company car park. The company deny any responsibility for the damage as cars are parked are at the owners risk but I noticed that no sign is on display stating this. When I spoke to the security guard he said that the sign was still in reception waiting to be put up.
Does this mean that I am in a position to claim for the damage as
the sign was not on display?

The Data Protection Act covers information pertaining to you as an individual i.e. footage of you could be covered. However, CCTV footage of your car would not be covered as it is not a "data subject" under the Act.

I have a VW MK2 Golf 1300.

The front passenger side tyre is wearing more on the outside compared to the inside.

I do not believe that this wheel is unbalanced as a different wheel that was used previously on the front passenger side also had the same problem - tyre wearing more on the side.

Is there a specific reason for this? or could there be a number of reasons?

For information, the car has always pulled slighty to the right whilst driving.

It can be a case of the person that adjusted the Tracking before
overdid one side.In your case the n/s.track rods should unless wear rates on both tyres are different to extreme as yours is.
Should always be adjusted evenly.Ie one side say given half a turn then the other side adjusted the same.Sometimes one side is turned a little bit more than the other.so causing that problem. And it isn`t uncommon

I was traveling through Scotland to go climbing near Glencoe last weekend, somewhere around Prestwick / Glasgow I passed a new Mini towing a dog transporter box trailer, it had a graphic across the top of the trailer saying " Dogs on a mini adventure" It gave me a good chuckle.

Well I collected my 2001 520i SE on Sunday, but no CD player (scandalous in a car of this class)!

Not having used those weird cassette things for years I've bought a BMW CD changer off eBay.

Now I know the car is pre-wired for this changer (I've checked the connections are present in the boot) but can anyone give me any advice on how easy it is to actually fit it?

I was hoping it was simply a case of plugging it in, but from what I've read BMW dealers charge £50 for the privilige so there must be a bit more to it than that surely.. I certainly don't want to get involved in drilling holes in my new pride and joy!! Read more

Thanks for your help guys.

I just received my BMW changer through the post, which I bought used off eBay, but there is are no brackets attached to it which I saw in pictures of other changers for sale.

Question is - since my 520i is pre-wired will the necessary already be in the boot or will I now have to fork out for brackets?

Can't check it as it's currently being serviced and I'm the impatient sort..

Has anyone read much about this forthcoming beastie yet? It seemed to have slipped under my radar until about 5 minutes ago. Apparentlywe're looking at a 150pd 2L Duratec with a 'performance tuned' chassis to justify the ST brand. Could be interesting, especially as the handling of the Fiesta has arguably become sharper and more refined throughout the generations despite the added bulk. Could this be the first truly fun hot Fiesta since the original XR2?..

I'm also quite interested in how the ST brand will be used in the future, although the letters RS will always be special to me from childhood memories of rallying on TV :)

(Of course, it doesnt hurt that they adorned some truly evil Camaros either.. ;)

It was Frank COStin and Keith DuckWORTH, the latter being the mastermind behind the 3.0 litre Cosworth DFV (Double Four Valve) V8 that helped fill up the F1 grids from 1967 until the early 80s. Stout chaps both.

Hi there,

I rather suspect you fault is the heater control valve mounted on the bulkhead as mentioned on another reply to this post.
I have had the same fault on my own fiesta and it was the valve.

Hope this helps.

1. I can't reach my license unless you hold my beer officer.
2. Sorry, Officer, I didn't realize my radar detector wasn't plugged in.
3.Aren't you the guy from the Village People?
4. Hey, you must've been doin' about 125 mph to keep up with me. Good job!
5. Are You Andy or Barney?]
6. I thought you had to be in relatively good physical condition to be a police officer.
7. You're not gonna check the boot are you?
8. I pay your salary!
9. Gee, Officer! That's terrific. The last officer only gave me a warning, too!
10. Do you know why you pulled me over? Okay, just so one of us does.
11. I was trying to keep up with traffic. Yes, I know there are no other cars around. That's how far ahead of me they are.
12. When the Officer says "Gee Son....Your eyes look red, have you been drinking?" You probably shouldn't respond with,"Gee Officer your eyeslook glazed, have you been eating doughnuts?"
13. Is there a problem CONSTABLE?

My old Golf has developed a drone that appears to worsen as the car warms up and is more pronounced/noticeable at 20 - 30 mph.

It sound like it is coming from the front left but I can't be sure. Sometimes I can hardly hear it; other times it is really pronounced.

Can anyone advise me what it might be please.

The wheel bearing sounds likeliest to me. As others have said it is sometimes difficult to pinpoint which wheel is the culprit. I had a similar problem with the old 1.3 Polo Classic.

A loose engine mounting may be another possibility.
