New Fiesta ST - Kuang
Has anyone read much about this forthcoming beastie yet? It seemed to have slipped under my radar until about 5 minutes ago. Apparentlywe're looking at a 150pd 2L Duratec with a 'performance tuned' chassis to justify the ST brand. Could be interesting, especially as the handling of the Fiesta has arguably become sharper and more refined throughout the generations despite the added bulk. Could this be the first truly fun hot Fiesta since the original XR2?..

I'm also quite interested in how the ST brand will be used in the future, although the letters RS will always be special to me from childhood memories of rallying on TV :)

(Of course, it doesnt hurt that they adorned some truly evil Camaros either.. ;)

How will the ST brand be used? Just the way you buy it: cheap, warm performance with an emphasis on appearance rather than true power or finesse.

Could it really be the first really fun hot Fiesta since the XR2? I don't remember the XR2 being hot - it just looked fast and got driven quicker! And I'm older and more cynical now: I don't see the fun in paying a load more for something which ain't that brilliant.

The XR2 was terribly crude. If it can avoid that then I guess it's progress.

Presumably it would be going into competion against the Ibiza 130 PD TDI Sport, and the Fabia and Polo versions?

Morris - I don't think that a 150bhp Diesel engine in a Fiesta will be much less than 'hot' to be honest! Sounds good!

Where do I sign?

This looks brill! :-)

Come on, a 150PS engine in a Fiesta will make it much more than warm...

I seem to remember reading somewhere that ST will be applied to warmish/fastish cars, and the RS will be saved for hot/fast cars. EG. the ST having 150bhp, if there's a RS Fiesta it'll have about 200-225. Then there's the Cosworth...

By the by who's the other half of CosWorth, |I remember Bill Duckworth?

Funnily enough I saw a Focus ST170 this morning, but just hadn't connected the two until you said that.. :)

Personally, I think this could be a very entertaining little car - the handling is more than good enough in standard trim to take a bit more 'oomph', so the ST version should be a giggle. All that remains is to see if they can make the price sensible...

Wasn't it Frank Costin? Or was that Marcos (or both?)

The Fiesta ST will have a 148bhp 2 litre. Out in November it will be around £13k and 0-60 will take about 8.5 secs.

The RS will use the same engine but with improved breathing should put out about 180bhp.

It was Frank COStin and Keith DuckWORTH, the latter being the mastermind behind the 3.0 litre Cosworth DFV (Double Four Valve) V8 that helped fill up the F1 grids from 1967 until the early 80s. Stout chaps both.
