February 2004
Hi all, unfortunately my cousin has the task of selling his deceased father's car.
It is a 96 (N) Honda Civic 1.5Lsi coupe (101bhp model?) 90k miles with full service history, elec mirros/roof/windows. Bodywork fine apart from a scrape to NSR wheel arch that will need sorting as it is starting to rust. Also being a solid red colour a few of the panels are starting to fade and could do with a good polish.
He does not have the time or enthusiasm to tackle these jobs himself so will be selling as is.
We have looked at the various price guides but their valuations seem to vary widely. I have suggested excepting around 1k but cousin is expecting 1.5k.
Any ideas anyone? TIA. Read more

HJ'd road test of the Citroen C2 includes a description of
warning gadget: tinyurl.com/3ee7r
"...on the dash there's a convenient button that allows you to
set a speed warning. Exceed the pre-set speed and you get
beeped. So no excuses and no need to constantly watch the
speed rather than the road when driving through a restricted area"
Since other manufacturers don't seem to be rushing to follow, I
guess you are right that drivers prefer gadgets to evade detection
:(
Fiat Stilo has this too (seems to be standard kit on all models). Can be set from anything from 20 mph to 155 mph (!) in 5 mph increments. And you can set the beep volume at levels ranging from "Ahem" to "OI!". Of course, human nature being what it is, the obvious temptation to the ill-behaved is to set it to somewhere in excess of the car's maximum speed, so that it never goes off. Nice idea, though.
Depressed! Why? You might well ask.
We've all read and contributed to the erudite discussions between involved, interested and informed drivers on this and other fora.
We all bang on about the advisability of being careful round schools at home time; this being just one example of places where it is obvious that inappropriate speed could be a killer
This week I've been on school duty and I've observed what really does go on. Quite frankly I'm appalled, sadly I'm not at all surprised because I've seen before just what hopeless and selfish basket cases some people are.
In this case the guilty parties are not the boy racers, with one very notable exception,, but it is mums, dads, grandparents, taxis, even the school bus driver! I'm not talking about marginal cases either.
Quite frankly while people continue to drive like total and utter numpties in a situation which is clearly dangerous then I question what chance anyone has got of getting a sensible debate on the issue.
Nevertheless having said that, come the next election time anyone knocking on my door will be invited in for a cup of tea, a choccy biccy and they better have their ears pinned back and answers ready.
I'm off for a drop of scrumpy, and I'll drink a toast to the health of all Backroomers,
cheers, FiF! Read more
God knows they frighten the bejassus out of me. They are monitoring my speed and they tell me they are not linked to cameras but I just don't trust them...
Better half's CRV ready for 54k service.Rang round for pricing.
Car is a W reg ( March 2000) ES auto with a full Honda history.
They all started with - Ah - This is a big service Sir.
Garage 1 - £330.
Garage 2 - £313.
Garage 3 - £264.( Level 4 service - 4 yrs old discount)
Garage 4 - £325..
When I mentioned 4 yr discount to garage 4..He replied - Ah yes,
it will be 4 yrs old next week - ok - £249.95....Plus free MOT and mini-valet! .( All Honda dealers within 15 mile radius.)
The reason Garge 3 and 4 were lower was due to the car now being 4 years old - They said - We can give you a level 4 service.
Rang back garage 1 and 2, mentioned the car was 4 yrs old / level service - They did not know what I was talking about.
We dont offer that service sir.
I asked for the difference between a "proper" 54k service and a level 4 service and was told that they are the exact same.
Only difference is the car is 4 yrs old thus discounted service.
( Plus free MOT - Worth £39.95)
Does anyone else have a similar expereince ?
Is this Level servicing the same ???
Does anyone know of any independant Honda specialists in the
N. London / Middx area ?

I'd agree with hul4000 - my car needs frequent servicing (every 9000 mile) + 4500 oil change, and the costs are high - £190 for a 36000 mile service (mostly labour costs).
The Headlights on my rover metro 94 m reg have stopped working.
The side lights work but I can't get main or dipped beam on them. I can flash using full beam and that works fine.
DOes anyone have any ideas?
Any help much appreicated. Read more
Yes...the Dim-Dip relay is a common culprit for this fault too.
That's where I would put my money. It's an orange box about an inch square, think it says "Lucas" on it, if that helps.

Am starting to believe in jinxes.
M42, doing slightly more than 70 in the fast lane (don't pick me up on that, I know all speed limits in all lanes are the same, just can never remember which is inside and which is outside).. and Polo's bonnet came open.
It bounced up about a foot free of it's safety catch and went down again, and then managed to relocate itself in the safety catch. To make it worse, there was no hard shoulder so I had to wait until I could pull over and slam it shut, while slowing down ever so gently and trying to let some really aggressive lorry drivers know what was happening.
Have no idea how it got open, as I'm embarassed to admit I haven't checked oil or water since New Years Day (the last time I did this trip in the other direction).
Is there something I need to check to see that the safety catch is working properly or do I just put it down to one of those weird things?
(Am not even thinking about the possibility that Ka woman has sabotaged my car!!)
All a bit scary really...

Hi
I am after either a peugeot 406 or a mondeo but it has to be Diesel and Automatic about 3 or 4 years old V,W or X reg
I cannot seem to find any anywhere ! do they make em ?
I have never noticed before just assumed they did make em , until now that I want to find one.
Im going to Blackbuse tomorrow and they have none
Any ideas or info about diesel automatics and any reason for them being extremely scarce or even non existant
Thanks Read more
The equivalent Citroen C5 diesel autos are quite common (and cheap - even brand new, with discounts). The 2.2 litre engine is a better bet than the 2.0 litre one. We have a C5 with the 2.2 litre engine and it is smooth and quiet. My only complaint is that the gearbox is only 4 speed.
Don't expect the kind of mpg quoted by Citroen though, as this is a heavy car, but we are getting a combined return of around 35mpg, which includes a fair bit of urban driving.

Helicopters link sums it up nicely.
Rice Racer / Rice Boy / Rice Runner all refer to those that buy standard Jap cars and Lax Power them to the nth degree, often with neon lighting kits. Just watch "The fast and the furious" and wonder why all of a sudden a 1.4 civic 3dr is a desirable buy on the used market.....
