Mondeo Zetec 1.8 cambelt - mitch65
1999 car with 50000miles. What's the recommended change interval and is it disaster on this engine if it breaks?

100k miles recommended
They rarely fail
If they do valves meet pistons and £000s

Personally I would change now as 5 years old = normal life span.. Cost approx £200 . Save £200 and spend £000s seems lunatic:-)

Just had mine done - £190. This included replacement of pulleys and tensioner as these are I think prone to going on mondeos. I also got them to change the auxiliary drivebelt as they were there.

I didn't get the water pump changed however, but am now wondering whether I should have got them to change that at the same time. Do most people get the water pump done at the same time as the cambelt??

Thought abut it but in the end did not include it. Mondeo 97 p TD 86k (2nd set of belts) £215 for cambelt, tensioner and fuel pump belt
Apparantly the waterpumps are pretty reliable and don't shed impeller blades unless you have a 2.5 24v
I f i still have the car in 4 years time then i may change the pump but by then it'll be pretty much worthless.
