I have a 1991 Ford Orion that has alloy wheels. It has been losing about 3PSI in the back left tyre every day for the past year. Someone told me that having alloy wheels of this age meant that the seal with the tyre allowed some air to escape. However over the last week it has been losing 20 PSI a day. The tyre itself has enough tread on it but I am willing to buy another I just don't want to waste my money if the tyre is OK. What does everyone think? Read more
I've just bought an ex- Honda UK CR-V with 9k on the clock
Do any backroomers out there with CR-V's know what mileage I can expect to get from the tyres which are Bridgestones. It is an Executive model so has 16" wheels.
Any thoughts on the best tyres for wear, grip, quiet running, etc?
Thanks

After 20,000 miles there is still plenty of tread on the tyres, at least 3-4mm. I doubt I'll see 40,000 though!
I can't compare the Dueller to any other tyre on this car - certainly grip is OK but there is a fair amount of tyre/road noise transmitted, all the more noticeable because of the low mechanical noise level. I put this down to the "blocky" tread pattern and was hoping to find quieter tyres next time round, though I don't expect much improvement. Bridgestone calim this is a "quiet" tyre.
Any recommendations on trolley jacks before I default to the Halfords option? Read more

The Lidl offers are normally the same all over the country. Very occasionally they have a regional offer. You can see all the current offers and also whats coming in the next two weeks on their website www.lidl.co.uk
Nice line in tow-ropes came in yesterday.
I\'m in London and have 5 stores within 3 miles so they are definitely not limited to the North and Scotland. Nice though those areas are.
Seen the group test in AutoExpress of these three 'GT TDIs'?
Golf reckoned to be expensive and unremarkable - almost dowdy. BM Compact long in the tooth and a bit ugly. A3 rather a jewel; good value and the best financial case.
Looks like VW is rather shooting itself in the foot these days. Gone up-market but can't hack it with the competition up there. And increasingly looking like plain bad value for money.
And what will happen to sales of the upper range Golf models when the BMW 1-series arrives in town? Read more
I think a matter for considerable concern for a potential buyer of any VAG vehicle at present must be the reasons why their profits have dropped 58% in 2003. Basically their cars are too unreliable and it is costing them a fortune to fix them under warranty. !!!

hi, i have a 1998 mkii mondeo and i noticed about 12 months ago that when coasting it would be a bit jerky as if the engine was pulsing or something, this has slowly got worse and does it during deceleration as well now but never during acceleration. it got a little better a couple of services ago but has since got a lot worse after the last service and the only difference was that they under filled it with oil a couple of services ago and now they have overfilled it this time by quite a bit.
the car idles ok and since the last service seems to start with a bit of a kick as if the engine is jumping a bit. i wondered if it could be the somethink to do with crankcase ventilation but when i have seen this before it usually makes a hissing noise when you remove the dip stick and there is non. any ideas ???

my MkII mondy stil runs great except for one thing, when coasting or gently decelerating it gets kind of lumpy and uneven, it seemed to get worse after the last service and better after the previous one, the only difference being that they overfilled with oil last time and underfilled the time b4, may just be a coincidence though
Auto Trader says that some petrol Stilos have gearbox problems.
Does anyone have more detail; in particular is this for the 1.2 six speed? Thank you.

The ones I've heard about have all been 1.8 5-speed models. Not sure whether this is the same box as is fitted to the 1.6.
Hi
I own a ford fiesta xr2i 1.6 (H plate) with a Laser Line Immobiliser that i think was installed in the 90's. I seem to have lost the Fob to demobilise the car. I brought the car second hand from a friend and he does not have the alarm key for the device. What steps can i take to get the car started again.
If there is anything else i can tell you about the car please let me know.
thanks in advance. Read more
A friend's Micra has just had the same problem with a failed Laserline alarm. Local auto electrician took only a short time to locate the ignition &, I think, the fuel pump circuits and took out all the wiring related to the alarm so car could be started.
I observed a superb demonstration of one hand bus driving last Saturday in the centre of Macclesfield. The bus had just turned onto the main shopping street, following another bus. Everything about the centre of Macclesfield is narrow and steep. The driver was stopped by the first bus, so he turned out and passed it to get into his stop and pick up passengers. All this was done with a coffee cup in one hand. He put down the cup whilst taking the fares, and then picked it up to drive away, taking several ?swigs? the while. It was a masterly performance. Slight correction - should be 'mastur' - a bit like the numptie who checked me into a Motel on the A1 last year...
" Room 35 Sir, Do you have a good memory for faces?"
" Not bad - why do you ask"
" Your bathroom mirror is broken!

I have had a strange episode with my 1991, 150k Pug 205 Dturbo yesterday. Went to start the car after work and as usual turned key to glow plug position til light extinguished, then turned key to start car. The starter did not turn, but an audible rapid clicking sound could be heard - maybe 3 clicks per second -- not sure if it was from the engine bay or a relay in the glove box. At the same time the radio went dead and the digital clock went back to 1 o clock. The clicking and non operative starter happened twice, then I let the hand brake off and rolled forward a couple of feet (dont know why I thought that might help!, but anyway) then on the third try the starter worked absolutely normally - not slow cranking - normal speed. The car started this morning and then again this evening totally normally. I checked the battery leads were tight - about all I could do due to the arctic weather and not having a garage. If anyone has any ideas I would be very grateful. Read more
Wife's Dturbo often used to give one click when trying to start, but she found that an immediate reverse of the key and a second attempt nearly always worked. Even though battery terminals may be tight, they can still be dirty, so remove both and brighten up the metal before refitting.
Can also be due to poor contacts at the starter motor.
I used to go to Blackbushe a fair bit but not for a couple of years now so if I can pick anyones brain for a few guidline prices

seen an ex-lease golf 1.6se with 87,000 - go for £4.7k 3 weeks ago.
E - if you can get the wheel off, try the soapy-water test on both beads to locate leaks - that is the most likely problem. If it's not, test the valve - the core may be loose or not seating properly. If you need a new core, tyre depots will probably give you a used one off the floor for nowt.
If the beads ARE leaking, get them to clean up and reseal the tyre - shouldn't cost much.
