Seen the group test in AutoExpress of these three 'GT TDIs'?
Golf reckoned to be expensive and unremarkable - almost dowdy. BM Compact long in the tooth and a bit ugly. A3 rather a jewel; good value and the best financial case.
Looks like VW is rather shooting itself in the foot these days. Gone up-market but can't hack it with the competition up there. And increasingly looking like plain bad value for money.
And what will happen to sales of the upper range Golf models when the BMW 1-series arrives in town?

See recent topic "Impressions of new Golf" which confirms what you are saying.
A number of people believe seems to have lost the plot with Golf V. It's too expensive and selling below expectations in its important home market.

I think a matter for considerable concern for a potential buyer of any VAG vehicle at present must be the reasons why their profits have dropped 58% in 2003. Basically their cars are too unreliable and it is costing them a fortune to fix them under warranty. !!!
