I put the desired amount of this into my 20,000 mile, two year old 2.0 litre Passat on Friday morning.
The old adage don't fix if it aint broke comes to mind as it's started awfully on Saturday and Sunday morning from cold. Never had a problem with it before and it's never missed a beat. I jus hope that I haven't ruined something and it was dodgy petrol or something.
It seemed to be fine this morning however. Read more

My speed sensor is dying, the speedo keeps dropping to 0 and power sags. Can someone tell me where it is and how much a new sensor might cost.
Many thanks for your anticipated help.

Reading the 2 posts above you, it looks like you just replace the speed sensor.
Hi everyone,
My girlfriend's Ka today has started to over-rev for no apparent
reason.
It only happens when she depresses the clutch after selected a gear.
Does anyone have any ideas what's wrong?
Thanks.

Hi All,
I had this problem for about 3 months and got to the point of getting dangerous , I read all these and other comments and thought wow, it could be several things, but rather fancied the disconection of the batterey which recalibrates the "computer chip" on re connection....
What is the advantage of having a dump valve fitted to a turbo diesel.

Boy, I hope he is still waiting for that reply after 12 years ..... :-)
Might interest some. The RAC website www.rac.co.uk offers a free vehicle data check service. You enter the car registration number, and it reveals the Manufacturer, Model, Body type, Colour, Fuel, Date manufactured, no of previous owners, and last owner date change. Its not detailed but it is free, after all.
Might be useful for checking how old your neighbours "cherished plated" Merc really is, or how many times that old dog you sold last year has been passed on.
Go into "My RAC", you have to complete a short registration process (you can make up the details) and away you go. Read more
All the conent on this thread are now very ouf of date.
From 3 different gearbox specialists: Toyota manual gearboxes are not reliable, the bearings in particular are prone to early failure, as well as 5th gears!
To make matters worse, the parts prices are very expensive; this apparently even applies to 'UK' build Toyota's, as these parts are all Japanese imports. Even VW's have cheaper gearbox bits - a bit of a surprise !
What is surprising is that this isn't well known outside of the trade - Toyota's score well in various customer surveys.
Anyone here any experiences ?
Older Toyota's don't seem to suffer this issue, apparently .... Read more

Hello all.
I have just changed the speedometer in my wifes car because the needle stopped working. (Ford Fiesta L 1990 year)
The new unit works fine we now need to change the mileage to match the old one i understand we will need to declare this if we sell the car.
How do we adjust the mileage without ruining the new speedometer unit.
The mileometer worked fine on the old one so the mileage is correct.

Hi
Volvo's are renowned for going on forever.
What kind of condition is it in.
How does it drive
Well, just like a car that's not got anything wrong with it. Smooth, quiet, roomy, bit slow, but then tanks are, virtually rust-free. It's just passed the MOT emissions test easily.
If you are thinking of getting one, look at the Volvo Owners Club website. The highest mileage one has done 2m miles, but about 400,000 is more normal.
Hi all,
The revcounter in my golf finally died the other day, so went to my local scrappy and got myself a new one which works fine. The only problem is that the milage is alot less then mine, and I really want to have the correct milage on the clock.
Shame its not like the mk II where you can change any gauge independantly from the others.
Anyway went to the dealer who said that they cant change the mileage on speedos that already have mileage on them.
Is this true? Does anyone know of a way of changing it?
Any help would be much appreciated!!

I need to replace my front speakers in my 91 Ford Fiesta and and trying to remove the door panel. I've never done this before and wondered how I get the window winder handle off so the panel can be removed. And what about the door handle ? I have popped the panel edges off but the handles are stopping me do any more. I don't want to force it off.
Thanks for any help and also can anyone recommend some fairly decent speakers for the front too ? Read more
Just be careful removing the circlip, they have a tendancy to travel a long way and are very difficult to find later.

>>It's interesting so many of you dissmiss the benefits of additives.
There's an important difference though.
If additives have been added to the engine/gearbox/axle oil or to the road fuel to meet the Mercedes specification and the relevant British Standard respectively, then, that is a different case to pouring some spurious jollop into the tank.
If the oils for your Actros meet the requirements of the relevant MB spec sheet, then, they have been tested in accordance with MB's requirements, and are therefore recommended for use.
Alas, you're mpg results are just one point, one result, and could easily be the result of a different driving style, different routes, different loadings, different temperatures, and different combinations of these and other factors. If results from 100 trucks were presented, then, it could be more meaningful.
I forgot to say, back in the 70s and 80s, the Merc trucks my father ran used to use EP90 in the gearbox, and EP140 in the diffs.
