  • 205 starter motor 26 Feb 2004 (Forum)
At the same time the radio went dead and the digital clock went back to 1 o clock. The clicking and non operative starter happened twice, then I let the hand brake off and rolled forward a couple of feet (dont know why I thought that might help!, but anyway) then on the third try the starter worked absolutely normally - not slow cranking - normal speed. The car started this morning and then again this evening totally normally.
  • Peu406 discs & pads 15 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I have a Peugeot 406 2.0 hdi estate y reg 24000 miles and have had it for just under a year and have done about 12000 miles.I replaced the discs and pads around 15000 miles because the car was juddering when braking, and this solved the problem. However the same thing started happening about a month ago and the main dealer has told me that they need replacing again.A good mechanic friend has told me that both the discs and pads are fine,(the pads only about 50% worn and not 80-90% as the dealer told me.)He has replaced the pads and has only partially solved the problem,he maintains that the discs are perfect, so i am at a loss as to what else it could be.
  • Engine Management Light on Corsa \'99 25 Sep 2003 (Forum)
THe engine Management Light on my V reg Corsa comes on intermittently all the time. Doesnt matter what speed I do, whether I\'m braking, etc. I\'ve taken the car 3 times to a PLP Vauxhall garage and had it put on the computer, each time have been told that no fault was found except maybe due to over using the cigarette lighter (?).
  • Different viewpoint on mobile phones 21 Sep 2003 (Forum)
So I am doing 50mph in nose to tail traffic, the guy behind me is driving without a single hand on the wheel! I flick my sidelights on and the guy obviously sees these at the last minute thinking I have braked. He is totally lost in his conversation, the phone is thrown to the floor, his car swerves into the inside lane and he then gives me the finger and a bawling! I now advocate a ban on phones!
  • Peugeot 206 problems... 10 Aug 2003 (Forum)
However, after 200 miles there is a grinding niose from the left wheel (I took the car back to the dealer for them to change the discs and brakes, after about 30 mins. arguing, they were going to charge me £250). That's the first problem what the hell is that noise...Secondly the Peugeot dealer promised to send me the log book and spare key after 1 week the log book has not arrived and they just blow me off..
  • Intermittent ABS fault 26 Apr 2003 (Forum)
The ABS warning lamp illuminates after driving for 40 minutes for no apparent reason and at the same time the ABS pump starts running. This seems to happen when the brakes are not being operated. Turning the ignition off and waiting a few minutes (the longer the better) and then back on will sometimes reset the unit and turn the pump and light off.The fault returns within 5 minutes.
  • Alfa Romeo 156 4 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Roughly translated that means I will not hear from him again. The problem is quite dangerous as steering and brakes are lost even if speed is low. It only occurs about once per month probably because the car only covers about 4,500 miles per year. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thomas Edwards
  • Help- accident last night. 18 Feb 2003 (Forum)
If i can get the bits off, i should have some mk.2 goodies for sale at very reasonable prices. Good suspension brakes and a few other bits. So drop me an e-mail if interested. Ben Chapman.
  • 3 into 2 4 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Either someone will not leave a gap for a car to slot into, or an opportunist cannot resist overtaking a few more cars and the merging point gets nearer and nearer to the cones. Now I have always thought that the jam is caused by cars in the closed off lane having to brake to a standstill(for the reasons above) when they reach the cones. This causing the lane next to them to stop and let them in with the knock-on effect going back miles. A pal saw a programme on TV about this and feels my theory is too simplistic.
  • VW electric windows 24 Dec 2002 (Forum)
    (1) will someone tell me its a known problem and is solved by replacing fuse 3 with a champion NG9Y or adding redex to the washer bottle, because I really don't want to get into taking the door trim off. I'll do brakes, clutched, engines, but trim just intimidates me. i just have to look at a trim clip and it breaks apart, everything bends, and the final result looks like it was reassembled by a visually impaired drunkard Failing (1) above, can anybody give me any clues for getting the door trim off the Bora ?
  • Dodgy Mk2 Golf Electrics 14 Nov 2002 (Forum)
There is something that annoys me that I noticed last night - it seems that the electrics will be "on" after switching off - the wipers, the radio, even the brake lights will come on if you hit the pedal while the engine is off. I'm kind of thinking it could be one of two things. Firstly, the door seals were shot when I bought it which meant that it was leaking water like a sieve - so could it be the damp in the car is making the electrics play up?
  • Is is a hum or a howl ? 2 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Not a murmur all the way there. On return, whine started at about 20 miles in, lasted 3-4 minutes then stopped without braking; started again 10 miles further and stopped within 1 minute. I'm actually getting quite fond of the noise now, even worrying a bit when it's not there, but am comcerned if it is the start of soemething expensive.
  • Approved BMW 29 Sep 2002 (Forum)
Is it being extremely fussy to ask the dealer to change them to the correct rating? Also what happens in auto gearboxes when the car is in drive and I have my foot on the brake (say at a junction), if I can see I won't move off again within 5 secs or so I tend to shift to neutral, is this unneccessary. p.s the dealer "volunteered" to do the infamous nickasil engine change before purchase so I have a new block, pistons and crankshaft, I understand BM are now looking to walk away from this problem. plus the car was given an extra years BMW warranty .
  • Vehicle slams into driver's testing office 5 Jan 2002 (Forum)
"(The incident began) as he was reversing into a parking spot," explained Constable Marc Chateau of the Saanich RCMP. "I believe he hit the gas instead of the brake pedal at which time the car he was driving knocked back a door of the vehicle that was next to him. Then the car jumped the little sidewalk and broke the window on the motor vehicle branch." The man has been charged with ?
  • What happened next..? 14 Dec 2001 (Forum)
As the traffic passed the entrance to a garage, a car coming from the opposite direction suddenly cut across in front of the van without signalling, and pulled into the garage forecourt. The van had to jam on its brakes, and all the men in the back of the van disappeared on to the floor, together with their tea.. The van then swung 'round into the garage and screeched to a halt in front of the offending driver, who was undoing his petrol cap.
  • Easy - question for beginners 12 Dec 2001 (Forum)
(If you happen to have MV craft certificate 1st year, ONC or NVQ, yoiu should own up) If the footbrake is applied immediately before the handbrake, then next time out the front n.s. brake briefly locks before freeing itself. This may be OK but in case it's not, apart from a blast of WD 40, what's the answer ? (three year old Megane). Any rookie who, in the opinion of one of our many experts, answers correctly, will be promoted - at least in my reading of his or her future posts - to the rank of 'one to be taken notice of', Thanks and best wishes to all; Colin S
  • Simple but perplexing!! 4 Jul 2001 (Forum)
As the car has alloy wheels any ideas on keeping these in tip-top condition? I am not going anywhere near kerbs when parking!! There seems to be an accumulation of stubborn brake dust appearing on them. I'd also be interested to hear any recommendations on waxing products (preferably easy to use ie. no effort needed!!). Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Cheers Phil
  • is there Lexus LS , very reliable alternative? 2 Jul 2022 (Forum)
the things which i like inside LS based on pictures and specs i have read 28 way adjustment of driver seat + massages , its quite important for me because i suffer from back pain.... my gs have only 18 way adjustment but my seat is broken so i cant use them......   Other things which are important for me is my Gs have 4 piston brake calipers in front not sure how many brake caliper pistons have LS , and i know ls have air suspention it should be way better compared to old leaky shocks from my GS... i also would like car to be faster than gs 450h hybrid is around 5.9 seconds from 0 - 60...
  • Audi S5 - Chirping Audi S5 4 Dec 2020 (Forum)
Last attempt I had was to replace the crankshaft rotor pickup wheel that sits between the crankshaft and the clutch drive plate so ordered a new one of those. But guess what    If I spray Brake Cleaner towards the clutch module, no change in noise. If I spray Brake Cleaner through the crankshaft sensor access hole in the transmission so that it is going behind the drive plate towards the crankshaft and crankshaft rotor pickup wheel, it screeches for a few seconds.
  • Diesel - Engine tuning the truth 7 Apr 2016 (Forum)
Hi people I did think this was an honest website but things I have read about remapping/ engine tuning are all wrong . If you have used a good Remapper then the file will not brake your car , so do a little digging into the company you would like to use , find out WHO they get their files from (50% buy good quoilty files) if they won't tell you avoid them as it will be a cheap knocked up crap that will damage your car pritty quick .
