I haven't received my V5C after six weeks - should I be concerned?
I bought a secondhand Mazda 6 at the end of August 2025 and the seller gave me the new keeper slip so I could tax and insure the car. I haven't received the new V5 log book yet so I decided yesterday to send off my green new keeper slip with the V62. I decided to wait 6 weeks as that was advice given to me.
I contacted DVLA via telephone and asked them if they recieved any V5 with my Mazda's registration on they said no, they have not receieved anything and they told me to send off a V62 with green new keeper slip. Now today, I checked online and it says last log booked issued on the 8th October 2025. They couldn't have processed my form that quickly surely? Now I'm thinking the seller must have sent the original V5 and they we're just taking their time.
Will the DVLA launch an investigation into me? Will I lose the tax I've already paid now there's possibly two log books being issued? Will the police be involved? Will I be contacted by anyone? Or nothing will happen?

There is no need to be concerned as this is an administration error and you have done nothing wrong. You waited the recommended amount of time before sending off the V62. Either the DVLA will issue a second V5/C which will replace the original or they will recognise that a duplicate application has been made. If you are concerned you can contact the DVLA and explain the situation. You will not lose any tax as the tax is issued against the registration number.
