Red Light Camera 25 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Hi there, Earlier on today a traffic light changed in front of me. As I stopped I am pretty sure I was flashed by a red light camera behind me despite stopping before the line. It seemed to only flash once though. I can't be 100% sure it was the light behind or the one opposite me flashing another car as it was raining heavily at the time and I was busy concentrating. -
Do SPECS cameras register absolute speed 8 Mar 2007 (Forum)
As we are aware, the 'SPECS' detection system calculates average speed over a set distance. Does anyone know if each individual camera also registers a vehicle's absolute speed as it passes the gantry? If not, then could a speeding motorist passing the first SPECS gantry slow to a crawl in order to get the average speed down before passing the next gantry? -
Sat Navigation systems: Which is best 25 Feb 2007 (Forum)
But which is the best sat nav system, both on a budget, and / or if money is no object? How about anything with built in speed camera detectors / road angel type of system? Do they actually "detect" the cameras, or do you have to tell them where the cameras are? If you know what I mean? Thanks, DrS. -

There is no need to repeat anything since earlier volumes will not be deleted. The Speed Camera Thread - Volume 20 17 Apr 2004 (Forum)
(Mods move this to the Speed thread if you must but so important that I put it here so that it is not missed). At the High Court today it was held that when Forms sent out after offence detected by camera to name driver etc then it has to be returned signed. The old loop hole of sending back unsigned has therfore been closed. Full judgement in 14 days time http://tinyurl.com/2qbjg DVD -
Police Camera Action 9 Jan 2002 (Forum)
But did anyone else think Alastair Stewart was a bit out of order to gloat at the Pug 205 that skidded and crashed after the driver panicked at the sight of a speed trap? Funny how you never hear statistics of how many accidents are CAUSED by speed cameras, isn't it? -
Bump, warning light and then mobile camera. - They say it goes in 3's 11 Aug 2019 (Forum)
Warning light and ping for grip control and scs came on, looked down to see it and must have accelerated a shade as taking a quick peek to instrument panel just on the exit to a bend noticed mobile camera, camera pointing in my direction of travel. Checked dashcam footage after when home, recording 34mph. Do i feel lucky? wait and see. Not complaining though, just stating. -
No more hidden speed cameras 20 Feb 2015 (Forum)
Headline from today's newspaper: "The traffic department will no longer mount hidden speed traps on single carriage roads" The head of traffic police in a statement to the parliamentary Road Safety Commission defended the transparency of speed controls and denied that her department had a revenue-raising agenda. Mobile speed cameras will be "visible and for a limited duration, placed at different locations and with a prior warning sign. Fixed and mobile speed cameras will be visible, so that the posted speed limit sign is adhered to.... -
"Watchman" speed cameras 15 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Does anyone know the legal status of the "Watchman" speed camera? I work in the Tameside area to the east of Manchester which is utterly infested with these things. They're painted all different colours, often green if they're among trees, carefully placed to be hard to see, and don't have the yellow panels on the back to make them obvious. -
The Speed Camera Thread - Volume 47 21 Sep 2007 (Forum)
As I drove North I saw at least a dozen sets of Gatso type road markings, in both lanes/directions, and some of them were numbered - numbers in the 40s. My camera warner gave no bleeps of any sort and there were no GATSOs present. However, coming back South some hours later there was a Lincs police camera van locate at one of the sites. Now, I thought scamera vans used radar and didn't need road markings. -
HELP! Red light camera! 15 Apr 2005 (Forum)
I know I was a complete idiot and I deserve everything I get but what is my likely punishment as the traffic lights had a red light camera on them!! One of those digital ones that they have in Bristol. There are 2 lanes of traffic that this camera is monitoring, but I'm pretty sure it didn't flash!! Help!! Will it be a fixed penalty £60 and 3 points? -
Mobile Speed Cameras 22 Oct 2001 (Forum)
This leads me to wonder why they publish the locations at all, as it would be wrong to deter people from speeding only when there is a possibility of being caught and to allow people to speed if they know in advance, by checking the URL address, that they are likely to get away with it. As far as I am aware, this is not the purpose of speed cameras. Andy -
Stingray cameras. What for? 18 Oct 2001 (Forum)
Of course they could ask police to look out for the car if is unregistered but that already applies to Gatso photos. So what are the new cameras *really* for? -
Speed Camera Revenue 8 Mar 2001 (Forum)
Instead of ploughing the revenue received from speed camera fines into more speed cameras why don't we start using technology to start clamping down on persistent offenders of other 'offences' such as tailgating and driving over the hashed lines at junctions in order to move swiftly from the middle lane to the exit with little consideration for others. -

Times report - speed cameras leading to higher ac 12 Mar 2002 (Forum)
The only type of motoring offence to have registered any increase is speeding, which leapt by 18 per cent in 2000 because of the huge rise in the number of speed cameras. Motoring groups said that police were leaving cameras to enforce the law on the roads. Drivers realised there was little risk of being caught for any offence as long as they slowed for speed cameras, most of which are being repainted yellow to give people time to notice them.
