Came out of Lidl with the shopping to find that our lovely 2006 Meriva had the hazard lights flashing. Pressing the red triangle button had no effect, and the button itself does not flash at as the same time as the indicator lights. The car functions perfectly - no warning lights on the dashboard - had no option but to drive home with hazard lighs flashing! The lights would not stop flashing until I removed fuse number 2 (5 A - immobiliser, hazard warning lights, exterior lighting). However, with that fuse removed, car will not start. So can only drive now with hazard lights flashing. Any chance this might be something simple? Any ideas gratefully received :-) Read more
Hello!
After just investing the best part of 650 to replace timing belt/water pump and oil and filter change, I have just had gearbox failures from the (what I now learn as notorious) Powershift gearbox. The fault code (as read by the AA) was 'Shift Solenoid D stuck'. I called a local automatic gearbox specialist who quoted 2800 as a minimum to rebuild the gearbox - and other damage found could add to that quote. Given the 'webuyanycar' price is less than 3k, anyway, is it best to reluctantly sc*** and move on?... Read more
What do you think is decent. Min quote I have had is 3k - and they said it could be me some unspecified extra depending on what they find!

A friend is a fan on the Nissan Juke. I have to admit that they seem a pretty reasonable for a small cross-over. I an however staggered by the amount she has had to spend on repairs and maintenance over the years. The latest one lost power a few weeks ago and was recovered by the RAC. A burnt exhaust valve was diagnosed and a quote of £2000 given (seemed a lot to me but I am old skool). Anyway the total bill has come to just under £3,500!!! Does this seem right? The price for skimming the head and inserting new valve guides is £600. A similar job on my V6 Calibra was £200 for both heads seven years ago. What are peoples thoughts? Read more
Yes, unsurprisingly Alfa’s 5 year warranty didn’t last long either.
I've seen a 15 year old car for sale, immaculate, 2 owners, excellent MOT history, with no significant advisories ever and any have been sorted by the next MOT, but there's no service history or receipts.
Does the condition and excellent MOT record negate the lack of service history?... Read more
Y'all seem oddly preoccupied with tyres, a consumable appendage.
Not oddly, sensibly....
Sounds like an ideal partnership

Hi, my daughters Qashqai starts ok with the key but the steering lock won’t engage and the central locking doesn’t work. I can get a ignition switch from the breakers with 2 keys but I am wondering if something needs to be reprogrammed to make it work. Looks like a simple switch but don’t really want to waste time and money if it doesn’t work. Hope someone could advise. Thanks. Sparky 100. Read more
I'm having the same issue, narrowed it down to 'something' in the ignition barrel last night so your explanation is really helpful! Any chance you could post a link to the part you bought, or at least a search term you used so I know what to look for? Also, did you need to remove the ignition barrel to replace it? How big of a job is it?
Is the writing on the wall for big bare grilles? According to this camouflaged Neue Klasse BMW more tasteful griiles could be about to return.

Yuk what a hideous thing, makes the Allegro VDP look a model of taste.
I think this discussion has run its course and at the OP's request closing it now....
I bought my first car in spring 1964, our first year in Canada. It was a red Morris 1100 a couple of years old, which the owner had bought for the advantage of (then fairly new) FWD, rallying on icy roads. It took us 40,000 miles around north America, until we returned to the UK 3 years later.
We stuck with BLMC cars through the 1970s, usually buying about two years old, never new, sometimes privately but usually from independent traders. Because I did basic maintenance the cars rarely gave trouble serious enough for any warranty claim, and I have never done that, because I am a fairly careful buyer and I accepted that cars a few years old cannot reasonably be expected to be faultless – especially back then :-). More than once I have saved money by deleting a trader's used-car warranty from his selling price.... Read more
Last examples of the run out models has been the habit for some 57 years. Trailing edge technology is a sound buy in many cases.
Good advice. Our 'last of the line' model, a 2019 Peugeot 2008 1.2 puretech130 EAT6 Allure Premium is now 4yrs old, their early engine problems resolved. Cost £17,000, well below 'list' as they were trying to shift them before the new shape 2008 appeared. ...
Alarm sounder has probably been put into section 13 , as are most Vauxhall sounders of this age .
