Whilst driving my instrument panel suddenly dies and the speedo drops to zero and then it suddenly comes back to life only to do the same thing again, also the car seems to lose very slight power when it does it?
I have read that sometimes it can be just the instrument panel that's faulty, if so can you just swop it for another or does it have to be coded?... Read more

Hi all have been using HJ for years by searching for answers and have have searched this problem time and again with no joy.
I bought my 306 2 years ago tired and sad and badly maintained, one family owned for nearly 20 years
all genuine mileage around 30,000 miles.
It started and run with no smoke or nasty noises.
Was poor cold starting and glow plug relay had been bypassed with a manual switch added.
As wether turned colder starting got worse and not on all cylinders.
Started so bad one morning tried giving it glow plugs while already running, it started knocking like the crank was trying to get out.
Turned it off quick waited a while and started ok drove for a bit parked up.
Same happened next time with same results after turning off
Now it has massive diesel knock all the time at tick over but the higher you rev the more it evens out until 3000 ish rpm when it’ sounds as it should
Any input would be great as it’s just looking sad outside my front door.
Don’t mind spending on it even though it’s getting on but don’t want to throw cash at something for nothing cheers Will Read more
Sounds like the pump timing is too far advanced. On rotary pumps a tiny adjustment makes a massive difference.
Like a complete i**** I've poured undiluted coolant into my car. About two litres. I then drive the car about 3 miles before realizing and took it straight back home. I then topped it up with 1.5 litres of water in to hopefully compensate. Why it's needing so much coolant is a question the mechanic will answer, but am I right in thinking it'll be fine and the water and concentrated coolant will just mix as it passes around the engine? Or does it need a complete flush?

Chances are it's simply got a leak somewhere if it was bad you would have seen coolant dripping,
Given the quantities, I think we must assume the OP has emptied and refilled his cooling system. Whatever, he hasn't returned to tell us anything yet ....
Just had a week in Marrakech, driving there would take some getting into. Thousands of motorbikes buzzing everywhere getting into any space available in the heavy traffic. Most of the taxis are Dacias and with the heavy traffic and tailgating etc you'd expect dings and dents everywhere but no, not at all.
The roads themselves around Marrakech are excellent, zero potholes, good surfaces and the catseyes flash at night, very pretty. I thought when we had a long road trip the roads would soon deteriorate but no, the standard was excellent except for the odd roadworks. Read more
That was our trip to Ouarzazate, I suppose there is still the taxi connection as Dacia has Renault connections. Agree out of town driving was not looking difficult but Marrakech would be a different story! Really friendly people too.

When I got my car it had 3 of the original Bridgestones and one new ditchfinder. Actually wasn't too bad at first and wear rate was satisfactory but you could tell the fronts weren't the same make from the different rates they warmed up from cold (TPMS).
Never found a ditch either :)
Last year, we bought a 2020 transit custom crew cab from a Ford dealer. It was advertised as £26,000 + VAT. We paid the VAT and as we are not a business (it was bought as our daily transport and as a tow car) we haven't claimed the VAT back.
Due to a change of circs, we now want to swap it to an SUV. The prices we are getting from the book for trade in are £22,000 which we are pretty sure is not inclusive of the VAT we paid.... Read more
A son sold an old Transit van at work, the employer is VAT registered.
The van had not been used for many months. In fact not started either. Started 2nd turn and the dashboard was lit up like a Xmas tree. Amazing thing was all the lights disappeared after he had driven about 10 miles. On re-start, fired on 1st turn, all was well....
Instrument panels were troublesome on 2002-4 models . The panel would go completely blank. This is an easy fix . The other issue of speedometer drop out and loss of power, is due to the speed sensor on the gearbox. A common problem.
