about 6 mths ago I sold our family car ( I am not a trader) for about £1800 to a small car trader. I advertised it at the mileage the speedo said at the time.
Today(6mths later) he just got back in touch saying he’s checked mots from 2016 and the mileage shows a difference of about 20,000 miles. This was before I owned the car.
He want me to take the car back....
i am completely innocent and don’t have the finances. I appreciate his side however a part of me thinks a trader should be checking this kind of thing before buying?!
anyhow what should I do/what are my rights?/ I bought it through a private sale myself- they seemed decent enough people at the time.....
your help and advice will be most appreciated.... Read more

Might be OK if you're learning to drive and will only ever drive an auto but those of us brought up with right fot braking and those who drive autos and manulas NO

I knew it would be there or thereabouts, but I know how good a BMW warranty is, so go with it. If I wanted cheap motoring I'd have bought accordingly, but there comes a time in life to indulge a bit and enjoy driving while you still can.
Hi Guys, I done something really b***** stupid, had a bottle of wine, and got in a car - I am not proud of this what so ever and HATE people that do what I have done. I'm seeking help as I think I have a problem.
I have never ever done anything like this before. Never been in trouble with the police and I am the most law abiding citizen ever.
I ended up in an accident, no one else was involved thank god, but I ended up in a ditch, I can't full remember it, but I hit my head very hard...luckily that's all I came away with. ... Read more
I’m not a criminal lawyer, however, I recall from my early days in practice that the key to the situation when you have been “pinned” is to focus on damage limitation. You are going to get banned, your best hope is to minimise the duration of that ban.
If you have a drink problem then take steps to get this documented in a report. Then a second report post rehab demonstrating your improvement and positive reaction to your condition. If you demonstrate that your dependence is broken the sentence is likely to be substantially lighter.
With regard to the publicity and the locals it’s unavoidable, but is tomorrow’s chip paper.
Good luck
Been checking my probably-relevant Daihatsu manual collection and they all seem to agree that there are two greases for the driveshaft joints.
Yellow stuff for the inner, black stuff for the outer. ... Read more
OP ignored my last post regarding how to set up ignition timing. It is possible that the different grade of grease for the outer joints is because they are subject to severe wheel movement (suspension) whereas the inners only rotate and move with the (suspended) car.
Exactly so, the outers have to cope with steering movement, full power on full lock being the most severe stress. Moly grease should be fine for the inners. The pink stuff Ed refers to could be 'kind to rubber seals' brake grease?...
Looks like I can't get the replacement split glue-together CV boots here (so far, anyway) but I can get a type I've never used, which is stretched everted over a lubricated (what with?) cone before fitting..
But I can't get the cone (so far, anyway)... Read more
Unlikely seeing China claims Taiwan as rightfully its property and makes things as difficult as possible, so would have to be sourced from a third country. From Ed's posts it seems even this is difficult.
Ah, thanks for that Galileo, for some reason i had Thailand not Taiwan fixed in what loosely passes for my mind...
Hi,
Recently I noticed that my car was not running good. (losing a bit of power). I thought it was a dirty fuel filter, so I changed that and there was no change on the performance.... Read more
Thanks for the info much appreciated.
I would like to install a small digital temperature sensor in the car engine compartment to get an approximate value of the coolant temperature. Other than actually placing the sensor in the coolant itself, what external part of the engine would give the nearest reading to the coolant temperature? Read more
There is a type of temperature sensor that can be mounted under a bolt head, say on the thermostat housing, it looks like a big crimp terminal.

Since no one was hurt, the police will not bother with this. yes its an offence to not report an accident, but the lazy police leave it all to the insurance companies now when its only car damage and no roads are blocked.
Even if you had reported it then I doubt they would have done anything, but they certainly will not now as the evidence on his car is contaminated by now....
As a trader of many years I can tell you he has no claim over you. He’s the so called expert it’s down to him to properly assess what he buys and then sells on. Tell him to do one. It’s not as if we’re talking about a £20k BMW here, it’s a budget near trade bargain bucket at £1,800. Ignore any further correspondence.
