Landrover Freelander TD4 2008 - Turbo problems. - Johngalaxy

Hi,

Recently I noticed that my car was not running good. (losing a bit of power). I thought it was a dirty fuel filter, so I changed that and there was no change on the performance.

The car has 180,000 miles on it.

I took my car to the local garage and he put it onto his diagnostic machine.

The diagnostic machine said that it is a Actuator problem.

The guy in the shop said that the Actuator cannot be separated from the turbo and I would need to buy a whole new turbo costing £1550.00 fitted or try and get a reconditioned turbo somewhere.

As I don't know much about cars does anyone know if the Actuator can be replaced or was he looking me to buy a new turbo?

As I cant afford to spend £1550.00 on a new turbo is it ok to keep driving or could I cause further damage?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated as I am stressed!

Thanks

Whereabouts (roughly) are you based? Sounds like you need a new mechanic and if you’re anywhere near Glos/wiltshire i could recommend a place.

An example, although i have no personal experience with the company:

i neglected to answer your original question, yes, it can be replaced separately. If you drive it take it steady. I’d recommend you contact someone like this, www.williamjpatton.co.uk/land-rover-servicing-and-...s albeit they’re in Cloughmills..

If they or any other garage think it can’t be done separately, give them the details of one of those turbo actuator exchange sites such as the one above. Shouldn’t cost more than £200 + VAT in parts.

Most turbo actuators are bolted on to the turbo, the significant part of fitting is to adjust the actuator correctly for best efficiency and control of variable vanes or wastegate.

A failed actuator can lead to low power or possible damaging turbo overboost, so take it easy until you get it fixed.
