S40 Man

Some may remember I recently scrapped my old Mondeo. I was looking for a reasonably priced fairly new car.

We spotted a possible Ford focus 1.0 ecoboost. I know people here don't rate them but my wife has one and it's been great.... Read more

... cars seem to be 10-15% more expensive and saving £2k to £3k vs spending £300 on fuel and a night in a hotel seems like a good deal.

Presumably some of the mark-up will be to cover much higher overheads in the south-east. I would guess overheads in Grimsby will be somewhere near minimum :-)...

Have had our ex -demo Kia Niro Plug - in Hybrid for nearly 6 weeks now and done just over 1500 miles

So far very satisfied - very comfortable and excellent driving position. Only real gripe is the boot - having had a Nissan Note with its wonderfuuly flexible system, I miss the flexibility.... Read more

Saw this on the TV ads. Looked up a review and that looked OK. then checked out how much. It's 35 to 45 thousand. They probably source them in the Far East for a lot less than that.

Sorry but unless the boot is full of gold bullion on every model I don't think any Vauxhall on the planet is worth that kind of money. Not to me it isn't. Read more

That is indeed a lot of cash and I guess depreciation will be horrendous...if not worse.

Never give your bank details out, over the phone or by email or social sites, for any reason! A new scam, tried on a friend, is a telephone call asking to make an appointment to change a gas meter. He was then told that he was due a rebate 'just give us your account details and we will pay it in'. Read more

Thanks for answering, I agree, this seems to be most likely what it is.

American Factory is a fly on the wall documentary about Fuyao, a Chinese automotive glass manufacturer who set up in the former GM factory in Dayton, Ohio and now supply the US car industry.

You'll need Netflix to watch it but well worth an hour and fifty minutes of your time. Not so much because of what they make but as a look at the culture differences between the West (and the US in particular) and China. With Honda pulling out of Swindon, it may happen here.... Read more

No, not necessarily Fuyao, but another Chinese manufacturer looking for a base in Europe. Perhaps less likely to be the UK with Brexit working out so well.

The Japanese appeared more flexible when they set up here, especially in regard to working with the unions. It's worked for them with the UK factories being pretty much on a par with the home operations. From what you would see in American Factory, the Chinese aren't prepared to work that way.
