I think there should be a clear difference for those minimum measurements, as it is clearly a matter of tyre types and where are they used mainly.
There is no doubt a winter tyre would perform better with deeper grooves, in snow but have no significant advantage in a warm and dry climate.
Also, tread depth is not the sole factor - what about wet braking ratings? You can have a brand new tyre with a poor quality compound that has a lousier wet braking rating than an almost worn-out decent one. Read more
Electric Avenues - even by 2040, electric-powered vehicles are expected to account for only 25 per cent. of passenger vehicle distance driven, per BP's energy outlook 2019. Accordingly, any rush to adopt electric based on imminent obsolescence of traditional alternatives might be stayed for a while.

Nice review, good future car for us ruled out permanently due to electric parking brake.
Resale will be a breeze due as taxi companies proving these Toyota hybrids trouble free for years and miles.
I checked the owners manual it said 40k 'MPI'????????
Does the thing need changing if engine is OK?... Read more
MPI - multi point injection.
I will check with Hyundai dealer to see if that is my engine. ...
I have moaned before about the lack of a manual for this car despite there being loads of these vehicles on the road and they are basically an evolution of the former models. Imagine my surprise to discover that one of the latest Haynes Manuals now on sale is for a 1965 > Lola!!
I know Toyota put their cars details / specs online (assuming them to be the same) and I applaud them for this but I find it a bit frustrating if in the middle of something I suddenly want a particular torque setting and have to leave the job wash hands etc and log on as opposed to simply opening a book.... I think one reason why Haynes has diversified into 'manuals' for almost anything (including Woman) may be the steadily diminishing maintainability (at least by the ordinary DiY owner) of 21st-century cars. I have just handed on my trusty 205 manual with the car when I sold it recently, but still have one for the 306, which I have reopened for certain tasks. Even between those two models - basically late 80s and late 90s - it is noticeable how things have started to become a bit less do-able.
I want to buy a naff passport. Do you know where I can get one of those? I have £1000 to spend.
Dear Mr Spammer- you are WASTING YOUR TIME on this website. No-one here is that gullable either. Idiot. Read more
Are they blue passports?
My latest acquisition (1994 Pug 306) has been fairly tastefully valeted before purchase - not too little, not too much. But the treatment of the surface between dash and windscreen has made that too reflective, so I was wondering what might be the least damaging but effective way to remove this stuff from that area? I'd start by spraying with deionised water and wiping with a microfibre cloth. If that has no effect then soap and water and a damp cloth. Escalate with cautious use of white spirit or meths (try on a hidden area ). I think that Armorall do a matt finish vinyl cleaner as well as the glossy.
Hello,
I raised a comment on the following article; www.honestjohn.co.uk/insurance/advice/can-you-buy-.../... Read more
My first thought on this is that if a sum even close to £50k is at stake then proper legal advice, the sort you pay for, is justified. Users of a forum, however knowledgeable, simply don't cut the mustard with that much at stake..
The OP's real problem is that his claim has been repudiated by the insurer. If they'd paid up then there might be argument about whether car's value was £45k or £50k. I don't think we'd be having this discussion about salvage....
I bought the car in August 2018, and noted that it had a new battery fitted in January 2018. It's a Lion battery, not a brand I'd have chosen, but it was on the car. A few electrical gremlins later, I've just put my meter across the battery and read 12.4V (14.65 with the alternator charging). This low voltage is, I suspect, the cause of repeated parking brake failures and the LCD display on the dashboard failing to display.
I have an invoice raised by Eurocarparts (dated January 2018), and made out to a garage in Northampton. As the supplying retailer, I called the garage first and was told that they will only provide warranty cover for the battery to the original buyer. So I called ECP in Northampton, who say they won't honour the warranty as it's a 'trade sale' and the invoice isn't on their headed paper (for whatever reason). ... Read more
