No - he shouldn't be in solitary - that would prevent the other prisoners from "interacting" with him - I'm sure they will be keen to "interact" with him being as how he is such a hard case! - LOL

Morning all.

Posted the other week re air / fuel leak causing cut out. Turned out to be leaky fuel filter/pipe. Now fixed. Thanks to all helping on that one.... Read more

Totally agree with all the above. Your problem is almost certainly air ingress into the fuel system. It would be worth renewing all the rubber fuel hose between the fuel tank and fuel pump, but definitely between the filter and pump. It only takes a small amount of air into the system to give you bad running.

Hi All,

A general question regarding mobile paintwork repairers vs garage. I have managed to accumulate quite a few long shallow scratches on my car. Mainly due to diving into hedges on narrow country lanes where I live and work to let oncoming cars pass. When I had one or two short scratches I'd call a mobile technician out but now that I have a few long ones am wondering whether using a garage would be more cost-effective. What are your thoughts?... Thank you, I'll get a quote from both and take it from there.

T'other day, was away from home and fuel light came on, (Nothing unusual there then) but was near a certain supermarket selling fuel, and offer was spend £60 and get 10p off a litre, so decided to fill up with Momentum on the spur of the moment.

One of the characteristics of the MG?GM 1.5 engine is that it feels faintly (and i mean faintly!) when cold and very very faintly "lumpy" with an occasional intermittent hesitation when warm... Read more

I have on occasion done comparative brim-to-brim analysis over several hundred miles and found that the percentage increase in mpg is more than matched by the percentage increase in price of premium fuel. There is a stated slight loss of power when an engine designed to perform best on 98 octane is fed allowable 95 octane, but for the few seconds held in 'kick-down' when overtaking, this is an insignificant loss.

2008 Mazda 2 1.3 TS2 with 100k miles on it. It was bought outright in 2010 for £7495 with 33k miles and has been reliable, with yearly servicing and just a few suspension parts and a pulley wheel replaced. It's on its original exhaust, battery, clutch etc. Yearly mileage around 7k. It's been a good car, although a horrific green colour, but it's starting to show its age.

In the next few months it's due a service and MOT. There are a few jobs that need doing; exhaust heat shield mounts at manifold have corroded , rear wheel bearing is very rough, suspension clonk from the front and a couple of tyres are very close to the wear indicators. There's some rust starting on the rear wing lip, and two of the alloys leak air despite attempts to fix. ... Read more

Possibly because for most of their production life they were built in Eastern Europe rather than Turin.

Long story short... I had an oil leak that was leaving large patches everywhere. The leak coincided with a MOT that was due so I asked the (high street) garage to have a look for that as well. They came back and said it was a minor leak from the sump plug. MOT passed. Was assured that was all it was. 3 days later, car breaks down just as I get off the motorway with a completely knackered gear box due to a gearbox oil leak. No other signs aside from the leak that started days before I took it into garage.
2 things really - I am in the process of trying to get the garage to accept liability, not sure how they could have missed such a leak if they had checked the car properly
Secondly, in the process of trying most affordable way of getting the car fixed. It is absolutely ruined; first garage contacted are quoting £2.5k for gearbox, clutch and flywheel.
Car is regularly serviced, around 112,000 on clock.
Any advice from anyone please? I am no expert on cars, I am just so frustrated they missed it!
Any help much appreciated!! Read more

The OP has, I think, been badly let down by the "High Street Garage". Wonder which one.

She noted the leak, the MOT was due, she asked them to investigate the leak and any half competent mechanic should have immediately detected that the oil was gear oil from its odour. Engine oil full on the dipstick confirms that, poor service to a non-expert customer. ...

Indeed disgraceful behaviour by BMW as NG had already paid some of the servicing cost as part of the contract so the garage should have simply asked for a contribution towards the late service cost and not totally disregard what he had already paid and then charge him for the service in full. Re Frog March Although HJ specifically mentions that speed limits automatically drop to 50kph when entering a town/village etc in France, the same applies to other countries. I live in Austria and it's the case there. The Austrians are also fond of speed cameras, plus they have random vehicle checks. It's mandatory to carry your licence - if you are stopped and don't have it with you, you won't be allowed to drive off. Might mean a bus or taxi to get it from where or it is, or if you have another driver in the car who has their licence, they can drive.

The owner of the car is the person who bought it (or who the car was gifted to).

The same as any other possession....
